Catholicism is a contemplative faith. The intelligent will find an endless quenching well to pursue God intellectually. I have hope that contemplating the Mysteries of our faith is analogous to the Beatiific Vision. There aren't enough hours in the day to think about God. The more you learn, especially in reading the church doctors or listening about them, the less you want to waste time on thinking about anything else but God. Think more!

I think christian’s taking the cross and using it as jewelry is extremely symbolic. The victors of conflict have always taken souvenirs from their opponents to commemorate their victory. But in Christ we have victory over death and our animalistic natures symbolized in the cross. When we wear the cross we our saying our lord has won and we are not afraid of even death because he has already triumphed

This young man has been sincerely seeking God for so many years that he finally gave up and accepted atheism, possibly very reluctantly. He was raised a Christian and even studied theology. I feel for him and pray he will be shown the Light of Christ and His Love. He needs to study the writings of the early saints and church fathers. Those men understood bc they experienced Christ. The explanations always fall short. These men experienced Christ thus Christ IS ALIVE and resurrected. Like Thomas this young man wants to see for himself. He will find Christ in repentance. That is what opens the Door where Christ can come and sup with us and become one through the Father and Holy Spirit. Again explanations are never enough. Repent and then the Kingdom can shine forth. This is the Truth and the Good News Christ Jesus died to show us.

Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He laid down his life that our sins might be forgiven. He rose from the dead. Acceptance of this truth is what sets us free. We can choose to reject it but rejection of this truth does not alter the truth of it.

Truth is slippery no matter how you go about it. Science or religion, it doesn't matter. Calling anything **truth** requires a high degree of arrogance, and an even higher degree of wishful thinking. Christians pride themselves on humility, but the very fact that they call something "truth" is **as arrogant as it gets.**
@HORNGEN414 күн бұрын
If you delete my comments, you are a coward and a fraud. To believe something as truth in this world is to be arrogant. We can put a probability on something based on our observation or intuition, but truth is in essence intangible. Religious people pride themselves on their humility by arriving at"truth" through faith, but literally nothing could be more arrogant. YOU choose to believe the story.

Catholic church and what it stands for, was humans mixing with the unknown, and how humans can understand the unknown with reason and logic Bishop here explains this very well Death is scary, and what jesus brought was enlightenment with his life. Before jesus, all religions were based on god being dark and evil. This world without the teachings of jesus would never of saw civil ideas manifest from the human brain.

Great conversation ! 6:22 I've always thought this understanding of "ransom" a bit strange. It seems to me quite medieval / modern, but not that much biblical. I'm more inclined to understand it as being thrawn in prison for debt (the Bible actually mentions that), and kept in prison until someone pays your ransom. As such, you are kept captive, and someone paying your ransom is a liberation. That sounds more biblical to me, and closer to christian faith. It also eliminates the "to whom is the ransom paid" question : we are indebted to God (debt being a classical image of sin), and thus ransom is paid to God. Which is another way of saying it is pure divine grace. My ransom is paid, I am debt free, liberated, saved, justified. It all makes more sense with the prison analogy than with the kidnaping analogy. Plus prison for debt is a consequence of my act (I've taken debt), while kidnapping is against my will.

So true brother. My analytical mentality has at times ripped me far from God. It certainly often is how you explain that faith is very experiential and spiritual. I’d think the logic of god is pointless and really a non starter. It’s all about the experience, after all this god exists outside of the physical reality we normally can sense except for the one time he came as a human 2000 years ago. If that’s the case then biblical study is more akin to interpreting a piece of art. From there I could derive similar feelings from all art created by man, and achieve the same effect. I don’t suppose god is meant to be a logistical problem but the act of immersing oneself in the human experience and shedding off the fear of death that would otherwise hold us back

Lead a horse to water he says without positively defining what the horse essentially is or even what water tastes like. To discuss the meaning of a thing you first have to clearly define the parameters of the thing itself. Catholics like it complicated for good reasons.

Yeah I was having this issue too. They so often sidetrack from the logistics of it to talk about the experience and feeling of it all. @FiatVoluntasTuaAmen The bishops thought processes exemplify humanity's feel-good 'fantasy' relationship with reality, which exactly what the story of Jesus, the Christ is designed to correct even though inevitably the narrative falls to the very reason Jesus taught parables, because "they seeing, see not, hearing, hear not, and neither do they understand!" Which the Barron bishop demonstrates perfectly because like everyone else he cannot explain his own reality & recognise the fantasy-of-knowing inherent in language, as the very reason Jesus said "my kingdom is not of this world." Like other 'reality-wise' teaching stories his story is about the paradox of perception inherent in the human condition, like the optical illusion of seeing the Sun 'appear' to be moving? Hence the post-resurrection 'appearance' narrative is about resurrecting the 'visceral' sense-of-reality we are all born with before we become 'inducted" into the fantasy of consensual reality. An induction process the ancient practice of living resurrection is designed to resolve so we realise the reality that heaven is always at hand, before we die. "Repent, the kingdom of Heaven is at Hand." Who said that?
