The explanation that I've found to make the most sense where both can be true is that time doesn't work the same way for God as it does for us. So "seven days" doesn't have to be literal/what we would perceive it as, it could still have taken millions of years for evolution to happen. The Bible is *so often* not literal or easily understood lol

As an agnostic who was in a catholic junior high and high school (on a scholarship), I was so glad when I left for a public high school where I could focus on my studies and art! That's when I actually got published! My french teacher swiped an essay off my desk, along with a portrait I drew to go with it, said it was to "grade them fairly" but she sent them to a publishing house that makes a whole book of essays from high schoolers every year! (And if there are pictures or drawings to go with the stories, even better!) It was very weird when she told me she submitted my essay and it was accepted!

I was never learned about dinosaurs, evolution, or the planets. By the time I switched to a non-religious school (due to the overwhelming amount of bullying and violence (The school literally took bribes to look the other way)) it was literally the last day of their planet curriculum and the teacher told me to just do whatever and not bother paying attention because they were basically done anyways. Ironically the time spent learning about Christianity was worthless in its own right. They just read you random parts of the Bible and told you if you didn't believe 100% you would burn in hell forever, also God is love and he's very forgiving. Then we took school field trips to the church, where I was never allowed to participate in the body of Christ ritual because apparently I wasn't baptized (told my mom about it later, apparently I was), also God is inclusive. Asking questions seem to be frowned upon as any genuine curiosity I had was met with looks instead of answers, also God is knowledge. Basically religious schools are like normal schools except you'll learn less, be confused more, hate yourself more, and apparently be indoctrinated so deeply that you'll refuse to take the Lord's name in vain even literally years after becoming atheist.

I went to a Catholic school in the UK, and we covered everything you listed. There also weren't paintings in all the classrooms, only in RE and the Chapel. The only actual difference in education was the limited teaching on contraception, but even then, we were told the basics (although not nearly enough). We also werent as rough as the ither local schools, althoygh we were a bit of a dumling ground for the kids who wete expelled from the others, but there werent many of them.

They also had prayers instead of the pledge of allegiance in the mornings. One of the few plus sides of this was that I got snack time despite not having it since 1st grade.

My priest in Catholic school told me I was a disgusting, stupid pervert (quote) for being trans (8 months ago, I've been avoiding him since) and middle school catholic school made me suicidal because of how repressive, homophobic and guilt mongering it was. They made us do termly confessions to our priests and write our sins down to present to Jesus (middle school) for a whole day. Why was my Catholic school so different than everyone else's on here? Is it because I'm Canadian? It was literally just a normal school but with one religion class a year. In grades 11&12 you had the option to switch to a "World Religions" class that talked about different cultures and religions around the world - not just Catholicism. We went as a school to Church 2 times a year (once before Christmas & once before Easter), and we had a final prayer to send us off at graduation. That's it. We were actually encouraged to ask questions about our faith and a priest (who was actually a former student there) would come in during grades 9&10 to answer any questions we had. The class president my senior year was openly gay & we had "rainbow day" during spirit week all 4 years I went there. When a freshman asked to switch pronouns & everyone was quick to make the change. The only really restricting thing about it was the dress code 🤷🏻 Sorry everyone else was traumatized, but one size doesn't fit all.

When i was actually in public school i was bullied during recess, so Id do anything to stay indoors. One of the teachers began a "bible club" that, what do ya know, kept kids indoors for recess. So i joined. Wanna know what it was? We would read a bible verse, then play games the rest of the time. So, as a child i learned that religion was literally fun and games. So i asked my parents to send me to a catholic school the next time we moved. And guess what? I was brutally awakened to the fact that it was NOT all fun and games. I was trapped in that circle for the rest of my education and now as an adult i despise the people who indoctrinated me and fed me lies. My parents arent even religious, they just wanted me to follow my heart and support whatever decision i wanted to make.....
