I feel like the way protestants interperate Catholics praying to the saints is that it's the same as we do to Jesus which is not true! What we do is like when you ask a friend to pray for you. We ask Mary and the saints to pray for us. The prayers of holy people are very powerful, and who is holier than Jesus' own mother? We believe that asking the saints (especially Mary) to pray for us strengthens our prayers just like when your living friends pray for you. To clear up the misconception: we do not believe that saints answer our prayers, we believe they bring them to God, making them more perfect than we could, and God answers our prayers.

Wonderful video! I'm a Protestant, my Wife is Catholic, so I've been exposed to some of the rituals of her church. As I'm not really a church goer, the only services I've attended in the past quarter century are regular visits to her church on Christmas Eve. Sounds like you do not understand the Sacrament then. You are confessing to God. You end your sins with 'for these and all my sins, I am sorry'- that sorry is to God Himself. The Priest is there to witness that confession, to provide suggestions and counsel, and to give Absolution. He's giving Absolution per the Ministry of the Church, following the words of Christ Himself: "Whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in Heaven". Many Protestants misinterpret Catholic Sarcaments and teachings- it concerns me a Catholic himself is doing likewise, who ought to know better. If you believe being a sinner does not count against you by virtue of being baptised, as many of the Protestants will have it, then you'll have no trouble accepting you'll see the Austrian Painter in heaven when you go! Stupid take.

One could argue, rather easily, that Roman Catholicism didn't start in its modern form until about 3 centuries after when this video purports, as "Christianity" was less well-defined until Constantine decided to construct what became the Catholic church. In the Catholic Church, we are baptized as Christians when we are infants. When a non-Catholic Christian converts to Catholicism He/She is not baptized a second time because he/she has already been baptized a Christian in the Protestant or Orthodox faith. However, Christian converts do receive the sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Faith.. Belief in Christ is our common denominator.. There is no need to make the Sacrament of Baptism redundant.

An infant doesn't have a choice. In the Bible people were given a choice. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Those little ones threw Bible living events. I can't say where baptized. But as long as they keep in prayer and have them learn about Christ. They should be fine. In the old testament. It totally looks like David had an infant who died. And even though it wasn't his fault for dieing. David did say "I can’t bring him back to life. Someday I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me.” If the baby wasn't baptized. How is it that David will some day see him? Everyone is accountable for their own salvation. Just as our children must work out their own salvation. By our works we can't save anyone. It is everyone's job to say they wanna get baptized. This is only when people are mature enough to understand it. John the Baptist spoke to those who can hear. Not those that can't understand .

No amount of our "good works is going to save us" thats why we had Jesus die, he payed us out of suffering through his death Jesus was a gift from god, we dont earn anything. Catholics believe that we're saved through our doing + Jesus, which directly contradics the bible. It's like saying to a judge in a court Look i did this and that, i am a good person, the judge wouldnt judge you on what you did good but on the things you did bad. I strongly suggest to believe in Jesus, and read scripture only and to stay away from religious indoctrination. I was raised in a Baptist church but I also had some influence from Pentecostal beliefs from my Meemaw and Tanti growing up. My family and I got out of the habit of going to church when I was 14, but the Lord in His mercy kept pursing me and saved me when I was 19 years old. When I was 22 I remember leaving class on campus one day feeling really irritated because it was a religious studies class that covered pagan religions and even the Salem Witch trials at one point. I can't tell you what the class that day was about, but what I do remember was that when I was driving to work that day for some reason the song 'We are one' from The Lion King 2 started playing in my head. When I remember Simba singing the line 'Even those who are gone are with us as we go on, you're journey has only begun', I started thinking of Jesus when He was on the cross. The more I thought about it the more it hurt because I started to realize just how much pain He went through while He was up there. I'd heard all my life how He died on the cross for our sins, but I had no idea up til that point how much pain it caused Him, and when I did I just started to bawl my eyes out. And I don't think I stopped crying for 6 months. Over the years He has helped me to understand more and more of His teachings and His purpose down here. People didn't understand a the time what He meant when he said 'Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you'. They thought He was being literal when in reality He was telling them about when He was to be crucified. His flesh taking the whipping and beatings and his blood being shed in a perfect sacrifice in our place. His love is so great that He went though so much suffering so that we could live. I now feel more confident and secure about my future marriage life. I’ve become more open, connecting with God on a deeper level through the spiritual examples from my Godparents, Saints, and rosary prayers, as they have more successful experiences before me, especially all Saints; My character has softened significantly. Catholic teachings have inspired me to be more creative in powerful prayers, and I’ve witnessed their effectiveness. Priests, fully dedicated to Jesus and service, have a clear mind and body, without interference from family, friends, or career issues. Their commitment is truly admirable.

They were all exemplary men, notwithstanding the very very rare abusers, I heard about in the news. In my small town in the 80s, 3 teachers out of 21 were convicted for child abuse. Also my ex wife's pastor, whose salary was hugely paid by her rich sister, gave misleading testimony in our court case, and was admonished for it by the judge.

I am a Catholic who goes to the Traditional Latin Mass (yes it's in Latin!) and I especially love how close our churches origin is to Christ. The tradition that was passed on through centuries amazes me! Unfortunately our history is not too good and there's a lot of misconceptions about us. But where humans are, there is sin. Don’t take anything from this I’m begging you. I’m a Protestant too friend and I love church history, I study it on my own time, I’m heavily involved in my church, have taken multiple theology classes at my last church (which went over many areas that didn’t specifically pertain to theology only, which is why I mention that) and I’m a currently a Christian studies major. This dude has like 95% of this wrong. Edit: oh and I should mention I’ve been to many different churches in the past 5 years as I’ve learned and grown and my theology has developed so I’m not ignorant of other churches. Basically, the difference between Catholicism and Orthodoxy is that the latter do not accept the Pope as head of the Church, but rather as an equal to the patriarchs. And I hope a Orthodox will correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the other only main difference is the Filioque, that is, the belief that the Holy Spirit comes from the Father and the Son (Through the Son, to be more specific), wich is not agreed upon on the Orthodox Church. Also, we have some minor theology disagreements, but nothing too different, and catholics tend to be more scholar and engage with the world, while orthodox prefer to be more mystical and retreat from it.

One main point, and yes I watched the whole video, but you said that Protestants think pastors lives should reflect that of the congregation to be more relatable and that’s not true at all. The New Testament, which Catholics have too, but choose to ignore, has many qualifications to be an elder of the church and one of them is “must be married to one wife.” That’s a pretty specific command. 1.) that he be married, 2.) to a woman, and 3.) only one. Within marriage we also know is the act of sex. So why does Catholicism believe in celibacy for the lives of priests? Same reason for much of their theology, someone made it up. Also when it comes to music the idea that Protestantism just plays modern pop is wrong too. It seems like you’ve gotten much of your information from maybe google and/ or mega churches that don’t represent anything the original reformers stood for btw. And ik the Catholics aren’t gonna like this one but Protestant beliefs didn’t start in 1517. 1517 was simply the start of the protest against RCC theology and doctrine that had twisted the Bible to manipulate people in many different ways including making people pay money to get their family out of purgatory, so what Luther started was a movement so as to *reform* hence *protest-ant* *reform-ation* back to biblical and apostolic beliefs that the RCC church had been twisting for hundreds of years. Some of the descriptions of Protestant practices were more relevant to Baptist/Evangelical churches than mainline Protestant denominations. Mainline Protestants typically practice infant baptism, and many observe Lent and Advent.

And OP didn't mention very important difference between Catholicism and Protestantism; namely the meaning of the Bible. Catholics don't take the Bible literally. The use it more like a spiritual guideline with help of Holy Spirit. So stories like Noah's Ark, Moses and parting Red Sea, Adam and Eve are regarded as meta-truth. This allow Catholics to avoid cognitive dissonance when faced with scientific facts. While Protestants might have hard time with science; age of the Earth, theory of evolution and history.

Agreed as things are not as clear cut as implied. Many of the practices sort of cross over although not always in the same way. Started off in Methodism which loosely follows many of the traditions of the church but can be very loose. Perhaps the thing that is the largest difference that was ignored in the video is beliefs around communion and the practices of its celebration. Now an Anglican and there is a vast spectrum regarding this in just one church let alone comparing it to Methodism. Methodist practices are seen as being a little too casual by Anglicans and is one of the reasons as to why the Methodist - Anglican covenant never got off the ground.

But Jesus did not leave us orphaned and instead sent the Holy Spirit to guide His Catholic Church into all truth, so that the underworld will not triumph. Should Christ have allowed His Catholic Church to be taken over by the devil, He failed to keep His promise have faith and we cannot trust anything He tells us. Where and when did the Mass, the Eucharist originate? How did this act of worship and remembrance develop? How closely is it connected to Jesus? How much of it is early or later church innovation? Is the Mass today anything like what the earliest Christians did? Many protestants will say the original Eucharist (Greek for thanksgiving), whatever that was, was maybe just more a commemoration, but then, superstitious Christians turned it into something that felt more magical and felt more ritualistic. So either they were legalists, or they were superstitious. However, Church historians are not seeing that as they read the early Christians, who did not deviate from the received Deposit of Faith. They were fanatically devoted to passing on what was received. Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11, says, “I pass on what I received from the Lord.” There is this strong emphasis on not deviating or innovating, but on keeping the Apostolic Tradition, on keeping what was passed down. Now, Tradition does not preclude a new prayer added to the order of the worship service. But the core structure, not just the Eucharistic sacrifice but even the order of the Mass, where you have the readings and the homily and the Liturgy of the Eucharist goes back Apostolic times. If the Apostolic Church did not believe Jesus is divine, did not believe Jesus rose from the dead, you’re basically forced to believe that the earliest Christian witnesses are wrong or lying. If you approach history with such skepticism of eyewitnesses, of the earliest recorded evidence, then you’re left with nothing. And that’s not just true of Christian history. That’s true of all history. The vast majority of history, we don’t have a ton of physical evidence. Well, a lot of what we know, we know from the testimonial evidence. And so if you just decide out of hand that you’re not going to accept that, you aren’t left with something else except your imagination. There Jewish prayers just for bread, just for wine because they were so much staples of the Jewish diet for one, but also, they were just seen as divine sustenance. “This is the way God cares for His people.” And so it’s an important backdrop to understanding the Mass. Melchizedek is this mysterious figure. He’s the king of Salem, king of peace. And Abraham tithes to him, treats him as a superior, and Melchizedek blesses him. And he doesn’t seem to have any genealogy, a mysterious Christ figure. Melchizedek’s offering of bread and wine is very significant because a sacrificial bread and wine offering, the Eucharistic parallel there is clear. An objection to the Eucharist is, “Well, although you see bread and wine everywhere in the Bible, you don’t see communion in blood.” In fact, under the Mosaic Law, you weren’t allowed to drink blood. You weren’t allowed to even eat meat with the blood in it. The reason is very explicitly laid out, that this is communion, because it would be communion with the animal. And the way that the old law puts it is, “The life of the thing is in its blood.” So to receive an animal’s blood, symbolically at least, would be to commune with that animal’s life. And so it was forbidden because this is beneath you, beneath your dignity as a human being. All of that’s true and explains, in some part, why people are so shocked when Jesus says that you have to drink His blood in John 6 and then at the Last Supper. But if you understand that blood is a communion, the same reason why you wouldn’t want to commune with an animal is the very reason you would want to commune with God. So in the life and preaching of Jesus then, again, themes already developed of bread and wine. I mean, changing water into wine is His first miracle. His constant reference to bread and the bread of life and multiplying loaves, again and again, and again. He’s preparing, at least He’s setting a kind of ground of images so that the Eucharist can be given its full meaning. Jesus draws on a few of the other Jewish images we haven’t even talked about yet. First, it’s set at Passover time. And so you’re already thinking of the Passover in which you kill the lamb, and you eat its flesh as a sacrificial offering. And this is a clear Christian foreshadowing. 1 Corinthians 15, St. Paul described Jesus as “our Passover lamb.” And so the connections to Christ are already given to us in the New Testament. Well, Jesus presenting His Eucharistic teaching on Passover and saying that we have to eat His flesh, this is significant. It’s striking. And the other thing He connects it to is the manna because He’d just done the multiplication of the loaves, and people then ask for more heavenly food. And this leads to a conversation of the manna, the Old Testament bread from heaven. And Jesus says He is the true bread from heaven. And so it’s a twofold kind of drawing on Jewish history, both with the manna and with the Passover and applying it to Himself in a way that prefigures the following Passover because one year after John 6 is the Last Supper. So it’s this really important point where Jesus ties together these threads of the Old Testament, showing they have something to do with Him, but the full meaning is still, to His listeners not clear. They’re confused and scandalized by His words because He seems to be saying, “You have to eat His flesh and drink His blood,” and they don’t yet have the Eucharist to make sense of how they can do that. the word Mass comes from the dismissal. This is something that you’re nourished so as to be sent, and we find this kind of sending, that they realize what they have to do is go and proclaim this. And that’s what they do, and they proclaim how He was known to them in the breaking of the bread. Well, what makes this even more obvious, in some way, is that the breaking of the bread is how Luke, who also writes Acts, describes the early Christian Eucharist. That’s his phrase for it. So he is clearly wanting you to understand this as a Eucharistic kind of event.

One other major different is how Protestants and Catholics understand Mary the mother of Jesus. Catholics, per the encyclical Mystici corporis Christi from Pope Pius XII (1943) hold that Mary was also sinless personally, "free from all sin, original or personal" Protestants see Mary as humble and pious and blessed by God to be the mother of Jesus and should be honored, but that only Jesus was without sin.

Keep in mind: Christianity is not a religion but a relation! This is the beauty and the main difference of Christianity! Unlike all world religions, Christians believe that a person CANNOT save himself. No matter how well we live and try, it's not enough because we are sinners (read Matt. 5). Only through the blood of Jesus are we saved, only by (Amazing) grace, only for free. Just believe that and out of gratitude good works follow, not for your salvation, but because you want to follow Jesus. Martin Luther opposed the false teachings of the Catholic Church (selling of indulgences, worship of Mary, etc.). That's where the 3 (5) solas come from. It's a slap in the face to Jesus if you think you have anything to contribute to your salvation. That's what Muslims also believe: recite your prayers faithfully, fast annually, etc. and hopefully it's enough to get into heaven. But then belief becomes a religion and not a relation(ship)! Rosary Beads are used to reflect and meditate on Jesus journey from birth to His Passion while reciting Hail Mary to his mother to walk with us in pondering his actions and scripture. It was also used for people in olden times because most could not read the Bible. Nowadays, there are other variations in mediation with the Rosary, more popular are the Divine Mercy to Jesus, Rosary prayers to Holy Spirit, the seven sorrows of his Passion,etc the beads are used for counting and nothing else, only as a tool to reflect and walk with Christ to bring us closer to Him. Some do it quiet time waiting for buses, walking in gardens reflection and the rosary are a help in helping to keep focus.

One thing he didn't say is that instead of baptizing babies and small children, we dedicate them to God. The pastor and the congregation prays for the child and the parents that God guide them in the child's teaching and growth of the family in Christ, and protection from God. And that the child receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior when they are old enough to make the decision themselves, and understand what they're doing.

As a protestant, I believe any Christian can have any sort of perspective on how to worship Jesus, as long as it is full of love and faith and they believe in Jesus. We Catholics do not think purgatory is an actual third possibility for the afterlife. Purgatory is the process by which we are purged from the temporal consequences (as opposed to the eternal consequences) of sin and any attachments to sin that we may still have left. But there is one big misunderstanding about purgatory : it is not a second chance to get to heaven. When you enter purgatory it is because you are saved and are going to heaven, but still need purification in order to be perfectly pure. This is based on the scriptural belief than nothing impure may enter heaven.

The children sadly departed in the womb or before they could be baptized never had that possibility. God, though, is not bound by the sacraments, He can save whomever he wants. It is our hope as Catholics that God extends His mercy to the souls of innocent departed children who through no fault of their own could not receive baptism. But in the context of Revelation : we just don't know what happens to them. We have no certainty of them being either in heaven or in hell, therefore the theory is that they are at the edge of life, waiting for the resurrection. Note that Limbo is not mentioned in the Catechism, it is a theory thought up by prominent early Church fathers like Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Augustin.

"Limbo" was used as a placeholder by theologians (not by the Church hierarchy) to denote the state that the unbaptized souls would occupy since there was no definitive teaching on it. Theologians have no authority to declare Church teachings; only the hierarchy does. The position of the Church is that God is eternally merciful and just. In the absence of divine revelation on the subject, we can reasonably hope that babies who die before baptism are brought to heaven out of the abundance of God's love.

READ if you possess patience. This video is quite off point and mis-representing Catholicism. Only on superficial observation and outsider perspective. 1. Catholic Confession is to God not to priest. Priest is there to accompany and intercede. It is more like Cionfession to God WITH a priest. There are many benefits of doing so, more so then simply with a family or friend. Confessionals WITH a priest is solely for the benefit of the person. You can pray directly to God to confess alone anytime you want. 2. Holy water is just bonus accompaniment in addition to prayer symbolising baptism water. Baptism is powerful and it is reminder of that healing grace alongside prayers! Catholic prayers even more used than in Protestantism. Besides personal prayer Catholics frequently say Our Father, typically Protestant services do not. 3. Catholics pray directly to God. Rosary is not even used in mass. Rosary again like everything mentioned before is an addition. It is ONLY used for the Rosary Prayer, my dear. AND Rosary is NOT praying to Mary by the way, it is for intercession, Catholics do not pray TO Mary it is WITH. Just like you would pray alongside a friend together to Jesus. Rosary is just an object, cyclical prayer also isn’t what brings Catholics closer to Jesus or Mary, it is just a counting device, and cyclical prayer is for the purpose of praying for others, it is not self-serving purpose of relationship building. Building relationship with God is through understanding scripture and personal experience, working and putting self in position of Jesus, sacrificing ego, physically going out and actually working to help others through corporal acts of mercy and not just preaching. Catholics are called like priest to listen to others before making judgement just like in confessionals. Assisting others in finding mercy and grace with God. Studying life of other historically humble and merciful Christians. Inspiring others the same way by being not just speaking. And if this was written more in depth, through accountable research through direct experience rather than amateur observation stating it like fact, this video would then be more credible. It just serves to drive the constant Protestant narrative of Catholicism mis-indoctrinating others with untrue beliefs. This is a core reason Protestants also come off with ignorance. P.s. Catholics in it’s 2000+ years is the continued call of priesthood (no matter man or woman), just like Jesus the ultimate priest. Catholics typically don’t speak as much or start off by preaching. They could be perceived as more passive evangelistically with more a quiet presence through actions. Thus, in my belief a branch of Protestantism was created and used by God as an active tool for gentiles, as such created in the more recent 1500s. Protestants are typically more publicly spoken (more in the face) and this may be suitable for some personalities / non-believers who are suffering from loneliness wanting to belong to a club, like primary school or secondary school, teacher tells, teacher speaks, group discussion, feelings validated. Yet time comes to show after evolving and growing in spirituality, desiring higher education will naturally lead to Catholicism, more like university and working adult, requires more independent, more philosophical discussions, studies, coursework, internships, etc. the working adult seeks a place of peace and quiet, purity and cleanse. A better development would be active Catholics rather than splitting off into division/denominations and diluting tradition as being unnecessary. Unity either way. This pattern is observed when man split from God. First is unity then is division to then come back into unity.
