I hate that everyone thinks that all private school students are rich. A lot of us aren’t it’s just that our parents rather us have a good education than having the latest tech and holidays. Personally my parents are always trying to budget everything so that they have the money to pay for private school and I say it’s worth it.

In the school I use to go to I had a friend who had parents working in tech , and I went to his house and oh my god. It had all the latest stuff. All Apple everything. Amazon Alexa everywhere , maid , a roomba, and stuff like that. And other kids too. They always bragged about having all the new things and shit. I was made fun of but. I use to be a public school student so they were afraid that I was gonna beat them or smthn. I always heard gossip that I always gang up on people when I’m around the rich kids. Honestly it really all depends on what school you go to. The school I go to is in Silicon Valley so pretty obvious that a lot of rich people.

Mateo Ramirez IKR I have known the same people since third grade. There is only 60(give or take) of us and Every thing is so complicated seeing as everyone always has this impression of you that you can’t get rid of and honestly with so little people plus the factor I have know everyone since third grade it is an equation for drama, gossip, toxic friendships and all kinds of other fun stuff and if I am being honest I think of most of my class mates as annoying cousins that’s how long I she know them 🤣 in conclusion schools like his aren’t the best socially :/

I've been to both, and what I can almost guarantee are that the teachers in a private school care so much more for the students and seem like they actually enjoy their job. I love going to school everyday and sometimes even dread the weekend, this is the case for a lot of my friends as well. It really is shocking when you see posts from people saying that they'd rather die than go to school, or something else that goes to the same extent.

I went to a private school for 8 years of my life. I can say without a doubt that these schools gave me a much better education, as sometimes I would ask one of my public school friends a somewhat intelligent question only to be surprised that they were never taught such things in public school. The downside to private school is, of course, the cost. In the end, both types of schools use their students for money, unfortunately.

In my opinion, having come from both a public (high school) and a private (elementary / middle school) institution, it really depends on where you live. Some private schools are really well off in wealthy areas and are expected to go to Ivy Leagues, but there are also some public schools in wealthy areas where they are also expected to go to Ivy Leagues or brand name colleges such as USC, UCLA, etc. This is the same vice versa, in that some private schools in not-so-well-off areas are (technically) just expected to graduate and may go on to community colleges or state colleges (not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing) and same thing with public schools in not-so-wealthy areas. In my experience, I’ve had friends from private school (elementary - middle school) who went off to private high school only to go to state schools or community colleges, while my public high school friends are currently going to NYU, UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, Ivy Leagues, etc. It’s not to say that where you went to high school is the only factor which would determine your success in the future (I’m stating in where you go to college per se), but how you utilized your school resources, took all the APs and IBs, and received great grades and SAT scores among other things.

I've gone to private school, public school, and an online school (homeschool). Here are some thoughts on each. *Public Elementary School* - I went to the city school from 1st to 5th grade and thought it was fine. I loved reading & learning and never had trouble picking up on new material. I, of course, never knew anything different so was perfectly happy. *Private Middle School* - Because my mother was concerned about the environment the city's public middle school was infamous for, she transferred me and my siblings to a fancy (non-religiously affiliated) private school for when I went into the 6th grade. (I was one of 5 black students in my grade of 80.) Coincidentaly, when I went there the school had just decided to grant all the student with personal MacBook Airs to be used in correlation with their curriculum. I loved it, as did most of my new friends, and the teachers were able to test new methods because of the added tech within the room. Speaking of which, the teacher's entire presence was completely new to me, they taught at their own pace, not the government's, and were able to incorporate fun projects and such that related back to the subject. I really loved the school and valued what it was able to teach me. I stayed until 8th grade. *Online High School* - At this point I'd become very involved with the sport of gymnastics. To spend more time training I left the private school for a private online school (so still very expensive) that was accessed via the internet. It was alright. I was able to spend hours at the gym and not worry about a demanding school schedule. The material the school taught though was crap. Each lesson entailed a power point like a thing of info with small side exercises and then a quiz. There was a one a week "class" with a teacher for each subject but it was only a review of the lessons. I hated it. But I kept with it as my gymnastics career expanded. In 10th grade, a series of injuries convinced me to stop gymnastics. It was the middle of the year however so I spent the rest of my online school days at home almost all the time. It sucked and my grades began to falter as I lost the motivation to make myself go through "power points" and instead messed around online. *Public High School* - For my remaining two years of high school my mother was presented with the options of returning to the private school I've previously gone to or returning to the public school I'd gone to. She chose public because she didn't believe the private school could offer me anything substantial that the public school (highly regarded despite its rough middle school) couldn't, and she was preparing for the college expenses of me and my siblings. I missed the forward-minded teaching, teaching tech, and other luxuries the private school gave but the public school is fine. Keeping up with my private school friends tells me that much of the material is the same. *Finial Thoughts* - I prefer private school. Obviously. But it's not a fair competition. I think both private and public will do the same if the person works hard enough. It's just a little more comfortable for the private student. And online school sucked for me. I'd say that if you find a good program (I only realized mine wasn't in hindsight) and could be very self-motivated (I'm not a great example of this xD), then it'd be fine. Really, it's personal preference. I know people who've to be in private school, public school, or homeschooled their entire lives and they all seem pretty satisfied and well off for their futures.

Why do so many people think that just because your from a private school means your rich? I go to one and I'm not at all rich. I have friends that go to one and they're not rich either, and they also live in a shady neighborhood since that's where are school was built. Sure maybe we have a few rich kids but not everyone is rich at private school. Edit: it’s funny how some people think this is an essay and not a KZbin comment section. Just cuz I’m from a private school doesn’t mean that every time I text I write like Its going to be graded. This is the internet, proper grammar is not needed here lol

It has in part to do with stereotypes abt priv schools and another part to do with accessibility. If the stereotypes about priv schools are that they're better bc there's more money being directly put into it, then someone, who for instance, had to rely on food banks for a certain amount of time during their childhood, would be inclined to believe that it's unattainable. The other problem is how many ppl are in reach of a priv school. For example, one could be of low-middle class and have a school like a town over but if you don't have a reliable mode of transpo, getting your child to school would be a challenge

As a public school student I get annoyed whenever people degrade public schools. Every guy I’ve dated that went to a private school has patronized public schools and said I should be going to a private school. I’m aware that they do not represent the entire private school population, but I definitely feel some discrimination against public school students. In the end, no matter where you go, if you try hard and do a lot of things you can end up going to a great college. A student who goes to my school, which ranks around #150 out of 300 in NJ, can end up going to Harvard just like a kid from the #1 school in NJ can. In the end, the fact that we don’t have the money to pay for expensive private school tuition does not mean we do not have the potential to attend great schools.

It's also completely ignorant of someone to generically say that *any* private school is automatically higher quality than *any* public school. In fact, a good student that uses a school's resources to their advantage is going to likely do fairly well. Parents are probably the biggest factor that determine a student's future college options. Harvard is such an interesting discussion. It shines bright thanks to brand appeal that this entity has purposely aimed to polish and preserve with its global marketing efforts to retain its perceived elite reputation in the world. We could go on and on about how this school has created a kind of unusual reputation snobbery that may really not be all it's cracked up to be. No matter, that school attracts a kind of student that's a go getter type that would probably do well in any structured place that is chock loaded with plentiful resources. For fun, they ought to do some crazy experiment with their coveted education by introducing blind lottery admissions to determine if the education itself is as great as they claim it to be. No matter, Harvard has one of the biggest endowments of any private college, and their graduates excel thanks to multiple factors. However, there are a ton of individual programs at colleges all over the place that are top notch. The *college admissions game* is probably going to be easier for the student in the private school, since these schools have a strong incentive to build their own reputation by ensuring that their grads do well. Public schools have a slightly easier time netting money. Saying that since it seems that college prep for a private school student is always in mind like from preschool. Private school students tend to have parents that are greatly invested in their child's education. They're not paying for school just to throw money away. I have been shocked at how ignorant some students in public high schools have been about the college admissions game. I just wanted to hit the floor thinking about how unprepared they were compared to some other student that's got a lengthy academic and extracurricular resume in place to nab those select college spots they want. There's all of these academic institutional cultural things that a lot of public school kids don't know. That hurts their college options. It really hurts their scholarship and funding options that the typical private school student has in place thanks to their parents. I can get really long winded on this topic, lol.

I went to both (public for elementary and soon high and private for middle). And honestly, it all really depends with what you experience and what school you go to. For example, I *hated* my private school since I got bullied there multiple times, and got ignored by 90% of my classmates especially when I was new there (it’s very cliquey in that school, seriously, by 5th grade [since it was a k-8 school] they already have cliques formed). But when I was in public elementary, the students were more warmer and friendly (especially to new students), there was less bullying, and there was a lot of amazing teachers. Just because I hated my private school doesn’t mean all of them stink. As I said, it all comes down to *your* experience :) So in all honesty, none of them are better. Even if private school has a smaller class, doesn’t mean it’ll be easier or better (because I’ve had my share of bad teachers). Even if you go to public school, doesn’t guarantee you won’t get bullied because honestly, bullying can happen anywhere, if you don’t get bullied, that’s just luck. None of them are better in my opinion since they’re so different from each other and they’re all not the same each area either. It’s like comparing Apple to oranges. People might like the private schools in their area and that’s fine but people might prefer public more in their area like me and that’s fine too. But if I had to choose which one is better nationwide, I’d say none since I only know how this and that school are in one state out of 49 others and one town out of so many other towns out there.

AllAway the commas are dividing up each of the clauses, and I don’t think you can read. Are you one of the many I’m referring to? Also, get your facts right if you’re going to attempt to insult me, as it was not racism. Racism is where you discriminate against a race. I didn’t do that, I was generalising using a prejudice stereotype. I doubt you understood all of that, so I wish you lots of luck, you are going to need it.👍🏼

Oh enlighten me All-know er, i have seen the light that you have bestowed upon my insufferable speck of a brain, I have awakened! However, my knight in shining armor, i'm afraid you have been taught... wrongly. Have you forgotten that after "dumb Americans watching this" there should've been a comma? Because there are four main clauses in one sentence with only one conjunction! That must've been horrible for your graceful brain-fullness. A tragedy! In addition to that, your wise ass highness , you technically did discriminate against a race. After all, stereotype leads to racism right? What is racism? Believing one to be superior to another race. Just what you did :) Oh and my sincerest of thanks for your wish of luck, i'm mostly honored, your humble majestic brain !

AllAway I didn’t say I was superior to Americans, and for you comma madness, the true reality of commas in the English language is to: provide the writer with freedom to express his views in the ways he feels necessary to. If you want to talk about racism and prejudice, your typing with hints that are referring to medieval times which is a stereotype of what ‘dumb’ Americans have on brits. Finally to wrap up, there is a difference between racism and stereotypes (prejudice). You better get googling, you got a lot to learn little guy. 👍🏼😉😂😂😂

Ooo, Mr wise old ass.. am I wrong if I say that stereotypes is when you generalize an idea of one group or race of people to draw an inaccurate conclusion or assumption, and that racism is believing one to be superior to another race?? Dang it, i'm so stupid!!! What is the correct definition then?? Feed me your knowledge !

Around the early 1970s Finland outlawed private school tuition fees. This meant that many private schools shut down, and those that still exist don't charge fees to parents. It also means that almost every Finnish child attends a public school. What has happened is that rich families are instead pouring their money into the PUBLIC system to ensure that their children have the best possible educational resources available to them. This works, but it also means that _poor_ children have access to these same resources! The Finnish system means that the rich are helping to fund education for everyone's kids, rich, poor and in-between. Rich parents cannot afford to simply let poor kids fail because they are attending the same school as their own children. In order to help their own rich kids, they _have_ to also help poor children. The social benefit is that rich children also attend school with poor children and they become friends. This allows them to have a better understanding of how poor families live, and when these rich and privileged kids grow up to become influential leaders, they think twice before screwing over the poor. In 1975 50% of Fins went on to study at senior high school or tertiary education. This means that the other 50% dropped out at the end of compulsory junior high school. Today over 85% of Fins stay in school or go onto tertiary education. Doesn't this cost the Finnish government a lot of money? Yes it does. But the Fins are happy to pay it as they see spending money on education as a SOCIAL INVESTMENT. They understand that there's much to gain from having a better educated and more highly skilled workforce, which in turn leads to improved prosperity and general happiness. And of course, it helps to reduce poverty. :)
@lguenther1759
@lguenther1759 6 жыл бұрын
The only problem is that while poverty might be reduced, the bar for what is considered "wealthy" will be lowered in the process. If you're not only paying for your kids, but also the kids of other people, you aren't going to stay rich for long. Many people who are considered rich by Scandinavian standards live similarly to the middle, or occasionally upper middle-class Americans.

Only problem I can see with private schools being banned is that the US is a whole lot more heterogeneous. There are going to be people arguing it's against their rights, gerrymandering will be heavy unless laws are put to defend against that and even then you have to look at the housing in certain areas because when there's a better school, realtor market goes up with or without gerrymandering. Also just getting all the laws required in a place where large majority are huge hypocrites and want unrealistic education standards + extremely low taxes instantly.

But my mother said she never had a parent teacher conference at all that year, and feel as though they cant focus on the students individually. In my current school we have had those, and an evening where our parents came in school, going by our schedule, and figuring out what we were learning in class. The teachers even told our parents to sign up for the remind app, so they can know about missed assignments or hw. I feel like my school cares more, and they really want our parents involved in our education. Sorry for the long and late reply!

But yeah private or public, nothing will hold you back and nothing will guarantee you a good career.

My name is Joey How do you expect it to change? Do you expect some parents to knowingly deny their children an advantage in life by intentiinally sending them to an inferior school when they don't have to? Again, it would be unnatural. Everyone wants their child or children to be more successful than EVERY OTHER child in the WORLD. And private institutions of EVERY kind are ALWAYS superior compared to public ones, save for a military since they rely purely on numbers to be successful. You cannot beat nature, so I opt to join it and ride the wave. Having gone to both private and public schools, I would rather die than send my future children to public school.

I’ve been a private school kid all my life, and I have to say, it sucks. I live in New York City, which is a lot worse than the postcards make it out to be. All the public schools here are horrible, and most of the private schools are no better. If you are a family looking to move to NYC, just don’t. Anyway, I think that the education system is actually completely broken. There’s kids in every class with different dreams and futures but they are being taught the same exact thing. Also, if you suffer in one subject, that brings everything down and you’r seen as dumb. I hope that in the future, my children will wake up EXCITED to go to school because they are taught what they NEED, not stuffed with random facts they don’t.

With all due respect, I completely disagree with you. I go to private school in NYC as well, and prior to that I spent like two years in public and I can assure you the difference is immeasurable. I go to The Dalton School, and the teachers are much more qualified than in public and the overall environment is structured to nourish the specific thing you are interested in. We have a free period during the day where you can spend time with a teacher from whatever subject you like. If you like music you can spend that time with the music teacher and get extra lessons for example. Also, schedules can be switched easily to fit your interests. On top of all that, there are less than 15 kids in a class so you're always able to express yourself. You're not just all "taught the same thing" you're taught what you NEED to know (math, english, history) and then given the time and resources to exceed and learn about the things you WANT. And there are hundreds of clubs and activities. My public school had one team playing one sport. At Dalton you have access to almost every sport (EVEN SQUASH) and you can join a team that will play in a real league. And, although there are flaws to private school, I hope everyone understands that (in my experience at least) private schools are incredibly better than public. You should honestly be a little more grateful for the opportunity you are given, because it is true that all the public schools are horrible. That doesn't mean that all private school kids will be smarter than public, but it does mean that the opportunities and resources you have access to through private shouldn't be overlooked. But remember nothing will hold you back and nothing will guarantee you a good career. P.S. New York City is literally the greatest city in the world buddy...

I honestly think it is just about where you live. I grew up in Tennessee and both our private and public schools were absolutely amazing. I was always a public school kid, and would never give those memories up for the world. Where I grew up, the public high school allowed every student to have a free chance to get college credit before graduation and one of my nieces is now exiting the public high school with a year’s worth of college credit :)

I went to private from 1st-10th grade, then switched to public. The tuition was about $25,000 per year. My spelling, writing, French language and debate skills surpassed public school students by far. I was also very well-rounded in terms of sports and was on the tennis, swim and ski team - which instilled discipline. You also make better social connections at a private school. Private schools are great if you can afford them. Myself and my siblings all went to private, but there is no way we can afford to send our own children this day-in-age.

I think it is actually helpful to go to private school if you're more of a nerd or talented. Private schools usually cater to your needs more, because they need the money from your parents. Therefore you can get harder work/classes easier, if you need it.
@c0222
@c0222 3 жыл бұрын
At the same time the catering can sometimes come as a shock when they move into further education, as the lecturers don’t spoon feed you and you have to do the work yourself to asbsorb it, causing some to drop out. I went to private school and went into higher education in the middle of the pandemic and the first year at uni was probably the worst of my life.

@wtfdidijustwatch1017
@wtfdidijustwatch1017 7 жыл бұрын
Mbathroom1 No. Public school sucks. Private and Homeschooling are 10x better than public school. The people do in public school is outrageous, and dumb. No-one is mature with constant fights, and bullies. Private school has well behaved (at least I hope) and more intelligent students as does homeschooling. The only difference between homeschooling and private school is the socializing. Homeschooling doesn't get much of that. But lucky for me, I've made friends when I was in first and second grade and stuck with them since. I went into homeschooling when I was 7 because the school sucked, and learned higher grades than anyone I went to school with. I have surpassed their knowledge and grades from being home schooled, and if I ever went to public school, I would, without a doubt, become an ungrateful, low-low, idiot. I have also learned German and French from being homeschooled and am now learning Italian. You don't know another language, do you? I am already more intelligent by being bilingual, and I am looking into becoming am FBI agent or an Archaeologist. Not a depressed McDonalds employee. I have surpassed your expertise levels, and I know more than you do. I know cooking and play piano. You are nothing to me.

as someone who goes to a £40,000 public (private) school in England, i must disagree with a lot of the comments i have seen regarding public schools as a waste of money because although my tuition is on the higher end, my classes only have an average of 8 people per class which leads to more personalised and tailored learning. Additionally, there's also a higher chance of getting into a good uni, taking my school as an example, in 2016 over 20% of the graduating year ended up being offered places in Oxbridge and over 97% of the students end up going to one of the Russell group universities. Of course, i do realise that not everyone can afford the tuition but all i have stated is my opinion so feel free to reply with any points you may disagree or agree with. (please note that i did not write this with the intention of having good grammar because i can't really be bothered right now, my sincerest apologies)

chloe I think private schools are definitely an improvement over public schools, but £30,000 is far too expensive. Here in Canada that would amount to around $53,000 CAD, which is slightly higher than the average annual salary of the working population. In terms of getting into better universities, having an average above 90% as well as being a balanced person (extracurricular activities, community involvement, etc.) will normally land you in a top university regardless of the school system you're in. Despite this, I totally understand how personalized schooling might help more students achieve the necessary results to get into better universities/succeed later in life. TL;DR private school has its benefits, but it is cost prohibitive for most people. Edit: I'm a 17-year-old Canadian high school student in the public school system.
