Interesting that they glossed over the resurrection. The only argument that they made was that there were hundreds of people that are eyewitness accounts. Eyewitness accounts from followers of the man in question 2000 years ago, that were only documented at least 40 years after his death, hardly constitutes as a good argument for it. I am saying this for a specific reason: I fall into a group of many many people that have found the teachings of Jesus to be incredibly beneficial to my life, but have been incredibly frustrated and in turn have at times turned their back on religion completely because Christianity has the unbelievable arrogance of saying that you have to believe in the resurrection in order to believe in Jesus. If they were to get over this resurrection piece and treat it more as a metaphor, there would be so many more people lined up to learn about this man. There was absolutely no proof to it whatsoever other than what is written in the Gospels. So to ask people to just blindly accept something so completely implausible, somethings so absolutely outside the realm of reason and what we Understand about the world in order to be a Christian and follow the teachings of Jesus is incredibly arrogant. Jesus’ message deserves better then forcing people to believe in zombies to follow along. I love Jesus with all of my heart, but because of their arrogance I absolutely detest Christians.

One correction: Jesus was actually from Nazareth which was part of Galilee - in northern Israel vs Judea. Yes - Jesus was born in Bethlehem which is part of Judea but was considered a Nazarene ! :)

Hi Janet. Thanks for your alertness. Right on all counts. In our defense, we are trying to make the point that Jesus came from a hick town (Bethlehem) even though the Holy Family only stayed there until Herod the Great's slaughter of baby boys. Yes, Jesus spent the rest of his childhood in Nazareth after the family returned from Egypt. While Nazareth wasn't exactly a bustling metropolis ("Can anything good come from Nazareth?" John 1:46), Bethlehem was more like a wide place in the road. We also leaned a bit on the prophet Micah: “But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be rule in Israel.” (Micah 5:-1) For our purposes, then, Bethlehem seemed like a reasonable-enough choice, and one that makes a stronger statement than Nazareth does of the obscure beginnings from which Jesus “came forth.” Even so, we appreciate your careful note.

Hi Bible cure. You point to one of the biggest misconceptions about the Catholic Church. We do not worship Mary or the saints, rather we pray to them for intercession, much as we would ask a trusted friend or family member to pray for us. There is only one God, this is the foundation of the Catholic faith. We suggest you watch our episodes on "Saints" and "Mary" for a more in-depth explanation.

We can probably quote you just as many Scripture verses where Jesus says he is God, for instance “The father and I are one.” (John 10:30) But the most telling piece of Scripture, we feel, is the beginning of the Gospel of John, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1).

Hello Islam Peace, thank you for your reply. We never said that God changes, as a matter of fact, our citation from John 1:1 proves that He does not change. It is obvious that we have a difference in belief and we would not presume to change your belief system any more than we hope you would try to change ours. Our site exists for people who want to know more about what Catholics believe or to help answer questions about our faith. What it comes down to is that we believe in the same God - you can call him Allah, God, or Yahweh, but it is all the same God. We differ in our interpretation of that God, but we all have the same hope - to be with God for eternity. We wish you well in your faith journey. Salaam Alaykum.

2 Cor 11:4 reveals That there is MORE THAN ONE Jesus!. There is the Jesus of the gospels, the one Jesus early, Ist century disciples of Jesus preached as outlined in the first three gospels & epistles. Then there is the 'Jesus' firstly of the Greek philosopher 'chuch fathers' who were joined and then lead by Emperor Constantine! ( This was the Jesus he made a 'God' to lead his Roman armies into battle!). One is TRUE, the other FALSE! Surely the sincere seeker of truth will knw which one I refer to is the Jesus of the bible!

Hello @kiwihans100, we see that you are not acknowledging the Gospel of John, which witnesses that Jesus was God from its first verse and continuing throughout. This is not to say that there are no evidences of Jesus’s identification with God in the synoptics, such as at Mark 14:62 and Matthew 28:16-20. But it is asking too much of your fellow Christians to take any biblical argument seriously that first dismisses an entire book of the bible that’s been part of the accepted canon for over two millennia, whether it’s John’s Gospel or the Book of Genesis. For that reason we are unable to meaningfully discuss the “Jesus of the bible” until we know what bible you are referring to.

Hello Revelation, please be more specific. If you are bothered by the visual representations of Jesus in history and popular culture, some of which are more fanciful and frivolous than others, we do this as a lead-in to our question, “But who is the REAL Jesus?” Kai and Libby answer this question fully in the opening minutes of the episode, which we quote here verbatim: “He was the Word that became flesh and dwelled among us, otherwise known as the Incarnation. The name of Jesus means 'God saves'. Looking at the historical facts, Jesus was sentenced to death for political reasons, but Christians believed that He died willingly in order to prove the complete and total love God has for us. Jesus claims that He came to free mankind from its bondage to sin. Christians understand Him to be both fully human and fully God, the bridge between humanity and God.” We are interested to know what you find blasphemous about this description. As for the pop culture images of Jesus, our hosts clearly do not offer them as “teachings” - they offer them to help the viewer understand that very few of us live in a walled religious fortress unaware of how Jesus has permeated our culture at all levels. These images are an undeniable reality, and while they may not be “pious” in the Sunday School sense, at the very least they remind people that Jesus IS, and in their whimsy and unpretentiousness they might even serve to soften defenses and allow the “real Jesus” a place of entry. The Holy Spirit works in wondrous and sometimes wacky ways. Even Jesus counsels that in spreading the Good News we must be “shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) That you are unamused and even shocked by this approach is your sacred right of course. But we invite you to reconsider if our approach “changes the character of God” or in fact preserves it by invoking the spirit of the Man-God who laughs out loud when Nathaniel quips whether anything good can come out of the hick town of Nazareth. (John 1:46) Far from considering Nathaniel a blasphemer, Jesus the Nazareth homeboy sees him as an apostle in the making.

Hi Fortnite Default, we would beg to differ with you. As a matter of fact, most historians - secular and religious - would tend to disagree with you. We have secular proof that Jesus lived in the writings of ancient historians, Josephus being the most well-known. Josephus was a Roman and not a believer, so he had no stake in perpetuating what you consider a myth.
