Lived there in the 70s. Hiked to Mt Tallac a couple times. Floating Island lake actually had a floating island. I remember walking on it, very shaky. Realized later not a good idea. Sorry I may have added to its demise. Having said that, beautiful hike, beautiful area. One of my best memories!

We just hiked to the top (August 30, 2022). I have watched more than a dozen different videos of this hike. I think this one gives the most accurate description of the challenge of hiking on all the rocks. My best advice would be to take plenty of water.

That is a great hike! I like to hit it early then go have late breakfast/lunch at Fire Sign Cafe in TC as a reward. I've done it twice. Going to hit it up again some time this summer (hopefully).

@Slaytanik.4 жыл бұрын
@@jessejay5587 I've never done Pyramid. But it is a cool 6 hours of your day on average. Just did it on the 4th. The next day I did Lassen (that was a breeze).

For anyone interested in this hike, the view is well worth it but the rocks can be BRUTAL coming down. Wear proper footwear and I 110% recommend bringing poles if you have them! I’ve done a lot of hikes and this one in particular destroyed my feet and knees like no other. Absolutely beautiful and worth it, though.

Made me homesick for Fallen Leaf Lake, Desolation Wilderness and the mountain. I was fortunate to have use a friends family cabin above fallen Leaf Lake and have hiked this area several times with some just being me and my dog. It is hard to not want to keep turning around to soak in the view all the time as you are hiking. This video is great but there is so much more that was missed, and only discovered if you are fortunate enough to frequent this beautiful area. More smaller lakes, streams and a mountain lodge along the trail that takes you back in time. Keep in mind if you do take your dog you will want to have some type of paw protection as there is a lot of jagged rock slate sharp slate. I had to carry my dog ( 125 pound Rottweiler ) out once due to his paws getting cut open. I can't wait to get back! Best kept secret! Fallen Leaf Lake & Desolation Wilderness!

Yes. Mt. Rose gives you dramatic views of both Lake Tahoe, Reno, & Truckee. The distance is similar, but elevation gains are a bit less. Plus there is less shale to deal with than Mt. Tallac. But it's technically in Nevada, so Josh would have to expand his KZbin channel geography, lol!

Timing this hike will depend upon the individual. 2 mph is a reasonable estimate. But with breaks for food, water, & photos --- plan on 6 hours minimum. You can see that even going down isn't going to be much faster on the uneven terrain.

Does anyone know if this trail is open during COVID-19? Even for a safe social distancing day hike?
@kathrynmercier48744 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. You don’t even need a permit at this time. Just make sure to bring a mask because I noticed most people wearing masks when I went a few days ago and it’s just a nice courtesy thing. And no, the trail is not wide enough to permit 6 feet apart at all times, hence the masks. Happy hiking!
