So awesome, I can't even imagine getting to see Yosemite in fully tranquility and glory, the way John Muir saw it. This year is THE year to see the national parks. No loads of foreigner tour buses, no traffic jams, no busy trails, it's a wonderful thing caused by terrible circumstances. I'm headed to Yellowstone and Grand Teton here in a few weeks, hopefully both will be as empty as this 🤞🏼

Thank you for posting! In 2018, I went on Amtrak from Texas to Southern and Northern California by myself. Yosemite was the main reason and my first time. Unfortunately, it was a quick 2 hour guided tour since I didn't know my way and for safety reasons. No time for trails, bridges, no driving thru the tunnel. The Yartzs bus and the train was my transportation. Your video gave me the opportunity to see what I wasn't able to. I plan to go back to see it all when my ailing elderly father no longer needs my assistance. It will be a be a great way to honor his memory since he used to take my Mom, siblings and I every summer to California. My father is 90 now and I wish I can take him to California one more time before he passes but he's too frail. I tried to the year before but he had a heart attack the day before we were going to leave. I used our tickets to go to Yosemite alone. It broke my heart to realize I can never take my father to any trips anymore. Rest in peace Mom. 🙏💞 Enjoy as many trips with your father when you can. We are not promised tomorrow and can be gone in an instant, anytime any day.

Only running across this months later. My partner and I go to Yosemite every May for three days. This year we of course had to cancel our reservation at Curry Village. I took a gamble and made a new reservation at the lodge for mid June and found out at the last moment that we would be able to go anyway. So we like you ended up in the park three days after they reopened. It was surreal to be there with so few people. We just parked the car and walked around the valley floor. Enjoying the quite. Families riding by on bicycles, almost no cars at all. Animals everywhere walking in the meadows and even in the roads. All the bird sound. Your video brought that all back. Especially the brilliant colors around swinging bridge and how peaceful it was. A moment of peace in this awful year.

Josh and Jeff, as always, great video! I still have to do that reverse hike. Thanks for the inspiration! My husband and I were in Yosemite last day before it closed in March. Once it reopened I got Day entry tickets for midweek once or twice a month. (We live only 80 miles from Yosemite). It was definitely an epic year with the lack of crowds, and also the constant threat of fires. On one of our day trips we had to turn around. It was the time of the fires. By the time we got to Mariposa the air was so thick we could barely see. Yosemite closed the next day due to poor air quality. We did a great hike in the Mariposa Grove in late August or September. Soon afterward the Grove closed because the creek fire came very close. I usually don’t even go to Yosemite during summer, I just leave it to the tourists. It was nice being able to go there during summer and there not being any traffic to speak of! Thanks again, always great to see the two of you!

Now I really need to thank you for making this video. I found out if you have lodging you are allowed in the park and unlike other years, we were able to reserve a camping tent in Curry Village. I imagine many people have cancelled their trips. We had to visit the site every few hours but spots kept opening and after 2 days we secured 4 nights in a row. All thanks to you for getting me thinking about Yosemite.

Imagine what it was like for people who snuck in and camped over these last 10 weeks.

I’ve been 3 times, 1980, 1987, and 2018, I am so jealous of your experience. My husband hated the crowds on his first time in 2018, but loved how beautiful it is. I wish we could protect this park like this always because it is a national treasure.

Your video was excellent and gorgeous. My husband and I visited about two years ago after a long hiatus and though the views were still amazing, the traffic and the parking, especially in the valley, was awful and challenging. How fortunate for you both that you got that permit to enter and you got to see most all the places you wanted to see. You've given me some great suggestions of places to go and see and I will be checking more out soon, when I get my camper van out of the shop. My husband passed last year, so when I do travel, it will be on my own, but there is so much to see that I can't resist.

I will be there the end of June. You have no idea how much this work means to me, with the amazing photography, great voice, closeness of you and Pops and oh yes, my favorite place in earth.

How amazing to be there when there was hardly anyone. It was so beautiful and I loved how you were quiet so we could hear nature. I live Yosemite.

I am so glad you got to enjoy the beauty and emptiness of Yosemite with your dad. Something tells me you'll cherish this trip for the rest of your life. As Ken Burns said, its not the memories of the parks themselves that are most special, but its who you shared the memory with! Thank you for all your awesome videos. My wife and I are heading up hwy 395 next week! We're stopping at many of the locations you reccommended:)

Thank you for taking us along, and giving your dad this presence present for Fathers Day. The face is see is that of a bald eagle.

I visited the park the week after you (and again the week after that). Experiencing the park with so few people was outstanding! During our first visit, I hiked up to Nevada falls while my wife remained in the valley - she had no less then 3 bears walk right across her path, no more than 20 feet away.

I saw this video in the beginning of August, you inspired me to try to get a reservation for my birthday week the first part of September. Got the res, took the trip and had one of the best times of my life! The reduced crowds were so wonderful, I honestly wish it could always be this way! We left for home the day the Creek fire started so although there was some smoke from the managed fire over off Tioga Pass road it was still stunning. So glad you and your dad had this amazing time spent together! Btw I just noticed we stayed at the same hotel in Oakhurst, we liked it! Thanks for sharing your amazing videos!

I spent a lot of summer days in Yosemite as a youth hanging out in the meadows, watching the deer and riding my bike around the valley. When I was there it wasn't quite as popular as it has become, it's amazing to see it back to the peaceful place I remember it being. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

thank you for being one of the respectful visitors. as a park employee who lived in the park during the shutdown, i was sad to see all the litter and chaos that came with the guests.

I've never been to California, and this is the first channel that I've just started to follow which covers the state. I can't wait to watch more of what you've made already and churn up my travel itch! Great stuff, man, thanks!
