@@CatMulvihill I hear ya! I finally figured it out. I created some side-by-side window templates using motion backgrounds from Storyblocks, which looks pretty cool. I learned that you can only do ONE "video" element per scene, so you can't have a motion background AND an animated lower third. I love being able to do custom sizing, and what you did with your live camera in a circle was brilliant. I've also got an ATEM Extreme, and a Roland VR-6 HD. And I know you can do some of the special effects with the other switchers. But the Rodecaster Video makes it so much easier!

Thanks so much Cat - this is the best video for the RØDECaster Video for trainers and presenters I appreciate your explanation of the difference between hardware and software-based approaches. I suspect two of the most obvious yet rarely mentioned benefits are if you have limited workspace on a tabletop, one device rather than two immediately creates AND with one device, one interface, you don't have extra plugs, cables and additional interface software to learn. I'm not sure if you livestream to LinkedIn or only to KZbin - if you livestream to LinkedIn that would be a video that would be helpful for the trainer & presenter community.

With the introduction of the RCP Video, the Audio problem is resolved permenently. I no longer need to bring my RCP 2 to smaller jobs for better audio. Briliant!. Thanks a million for this content. I agree with all the other comments. GREAT video for lots of reasons but really love your perspective on use cases. You may have convinced me. Good bye OBS? Anyway, how would one connect it to use as Virtual Camera into Zoom - would I need a 2nd monitor? I do pretty much 100 percent through Zoom with a live audience, record the live meeting then upload for replays..... I rotate between between 4 primary scenes. Would really appreciate your comment on this. Thanks
@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
For Zoom, you would choose RØDECaster Video as your camera and your mic. It's just like if you connect a webcam with a mic and use it for both video and audio. Except you can control what's coming through the camera using the buttons. You wouldn't need another monitor for this to work. You might want a small monitor if you'd like to see previews of all the scenes/cameras/overlays, but you don't need it if you remember what's what. If the resolution for Zoom is a bit lower, then you could try Share > Camera and share the camera feed.

Hi again. I think another great feature is the ability to load up the Rodecaster with overlays (usually lower thirds) and video clips and scenes, etc and then save all this to a file which can be restored at a later time. This would give you the ability to create a "show' and save it for later. You could create many shows in advance and then restore the one you want before your presentation starts.

It really depends on your needs. For people with only a few scenes (7 or fewer), you could get away with just using the RCV and not needing software. If you want more flexibility and range and your computer is powerful, then using software gives you more options, like more scenes, automatic scene switching, more input options (NDI, continuity camera, webcams that aren't uncompressed), comments on screen, etc.

Very good to have a hardware addition, especially when you are tasked to do something in a company where you know that it will be used by all kinds of different people, so software installation is not practical, and IT has everything software related locked down. This one seems to even have space on the buttons to put stickers, so you can easily make it recognizable which buttons to press. Do the sound inputs have some way of gating, or otherwise easy muting functions? Can a USB webcam be inputted and that the audio and video stream are separately addressed?

Definitely an advantage when plugging into multiple computers without needing to download software (especially when admin may be required). I would say the muting option is not quick (no one-touch button). You need to select the mic and you can hold down the button above the screen.

Hi Cat, thanks for the detailed description. The layering of shots looks relatively easy. Reminds me a lot of Livestream Studio and Wirecast. It looks to be easier to setup than an ATEM mini with much the same feature set. I guess that no-one has worked out how to use instant video replay yet. What is the audio/video delay ( in milliseconds)? For the 4K crowd, 1080p uses half of the processing power than a 4K production.
@MichaelTucker4 ай бұрын

hi Cat, thanks so much for this great video! as a fellow eCamm Live aficionado, i’m curious as to how you think the RCV & eCamm ecosystems will integrate in your workflow. i’m guessing that the Røde Central software isn’t as powerful or customizable as eCamm, but it is nice to have all of your assets in one software. do you think you’d ever use Røde Central to fully replace eCamm (aside from this demo)?
@benseebaugh4 ай бұрын
i’m also curious about virtual inputs, such as during a webinar with multiple remote speakers. let’s say you’re producing a virtual livestream, and you host a conference call where all the speakers join. does the RCV software have any features to bring in high-quality feeds of those speakers’ video feeds (incoming from an app like Zoom or Teams)? or would you have to essentially do a screen share of their individual boxes incoming from Zoom/Teams?
@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
It's a great question, and I'm not sure just yet. Right now I do love the idea of reducing how many inputs go into my computer since I have legitimately noticed too many camera sources can bog down Ecamm. I had an issue last year with laggy, inconsistent video, and when I connected with support, they asked me to remove any cameras I wasn't actively using from the switcher. I did, and the problem went away. (Note: this also included virtual cameras from all the software I test, too). I'll keep testing things out, but I can see a scenario where I'm using the RCV for connecting my iPad, iPhone (it also works with the HDMI adapter), and any other secondary cameras. Then use Ecamm for overlays like talking points, outlines, and showing comments on screen.
@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
For the speakers and guests, I still think software is the way to go right now.

@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
For this video, I'm using both since my studio shot was from my iPhone (connected to Ecamm via app) and the monitor view was input into my computer and brought into Ecamm as a camera source. So I was switching on the RCV and in Ecamm. It's early to say, but I can see myself using RCV for connecting any external devices (e.g. iPad, 2nd computer) and my 2nd Sony camera to reduce the number of inputs directly into my computer. Then use Ecamm scenes for overlays, animations, screen sharing, etc. This device is not a "need to have" for my setup since I have been able to do all these things prior to owning the RCV. I do like the idea of offloading some processing and managing inputs, so it's a nice to have.

And it means that you have to use your computer processing power. IMHO, this is rather something like ATEM switcher

I think it's best to think of the buttons on the RCV as controls for the RCV only. In my case, I'm programmed my Stream Deck to switch scenes, control audio, etc, so they seem similar but Stream Decks are like a clean slate that you can program to do many things. The RCV buttons are only connected to managing the console itself.

Great overview of this interesting device. Are you going to keep it? It seems that the Scene switching buttons unfortunately depend on a user's ability to recall (rather than recognizing) which button is connected to which scene. This is much easier on e.g. a Stream Deck where custom made icons can represent a specific scene, thus making it much easier to recognize.

It's early to know how it will fit into my productions, but it's really appealing to have secondary cameras and devices able to connect into the RCV instead of having all of them connect to the computer.

Wondering if you could help clarify how the RodeCasterVideo and Elgato Stream Deck, ATEM, and other devices differ from one another. Sometimes, it's very difficult to grasp the specialized uses of these various devices that seem to serve as interfaces. Thanks.
@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
The RØDECaster Video and ATEM both allow multiple video inputs that you can control with the console. The RCV is also an audio interface. The consoles process the inputs and you send the 'program' to your computer and/or record locally to an external drive. They can work on their own without requiring a connection to a computer. (I can't compare at the level of scenes and graphics because I don't own an ATEM, so someone else is better suited to get into that level of detail.) The Stream Deck is a programmable accessory that can control many software programs using plugins and/or hotkeys. While it can control things, it is not processing any video or audio inputs. It's like a sophisticated keyboard and you get to choose what the keys do. It must be connected to a computer to work.

@@CatMulvihillplease get Elgato and Røde to provide interaction between the Streamdeck and the RCV. That would really rock!

Can you explain why you have so many StreamDecks?

Cat I have a OBSBOT Tiny 2 working (video only no sound) on my RCV. The RCV usb c 4 or 5 will work if you convert the usb c signal to a usb a (type 3 blue) some where between the RCV and the webcam. A USB C to USB A (type 3) cable can be used then just use a USB A (type 3) to USB C converter to plug into the RCV. I found this out by plugging a USB C hub into the RCV then plugging the Tiny 2 into a USB A type 3 port of the hub. Let me know if you get it working ok.
@bobwhitewo3b4 ай бұрын
Another way to do this is plug a usb c to usb a (blue type 3) adapter into the RCV and then usb a type three to usb c adapter into the first adapter. Then you can use a usb c cable between there and the Tiny 2.

I found out the Tiny 2 is compatible but the Tiny 2 Lite doesn't use uncompressed video.

Cat, what place will your Rodecaster Video take in the context of eCamm live for your futur productions?

Great question, how does it fit with Ecamm
@CatMulvihill4 ай бұрын
I think it's a little early to say how this will fit into my workflow, except I have no plans to get rid of Ecamm. Right now I'm leaning towards streamlining my inputs with the RCV (e.g. iPad, secondary cameras, etc) to reduce how many connections are going into my computer.
@jimh19464 ай бұрын
@@samueldickes It seems like Ecamm is the software version of the Rodecaster Video. If someone is not using Ecamm than this hardware makes sense. Generally speaking, I'm an early adopter, sometimes too early. I've mentally struggled with how to use this in my podcasts. Too bad, I could use another gadget. So I'll stick with Ecamm, and try and figure out if this offers any future advantages.

How does this differ to what Rode presents? I'd like to see real world in action use... Anyone???

This is a Rode product. It integrates what they started in the Streamer X and expanded it a lot. It's kinda like the Streamer X, Rodecaster Duo and Atem Mini Extreme all rolled into one. There are several demos from @TomBuck @AaronParecki and @PhotoJoseph to name a few.

This feels like a great Rival to The Atem Switcher
@DavidHunte4 ай бұрын
IT is. As a solo operator, I'm ok with where I am right now with my ATEM. But for a multi person setup, this can be a great tool. I say this because of the AUTO Switching Feature, where the video can follow the audio input.
@DavidHunte2 ай бұрын
I would add that this is more of a rival to the ATEM Mini Extreme and Extreme ISO in price point than the regular ATEM Mini, Pro or Atem Mini Pro ISO, in my opinion. I would love to see a head to head comparison.

@@KooroshAcademy - I understand your pain point, and I agree that I would have like see at least 4K (like the Streamer X) but they have a boat load of technology listed in here. There is a lot that goes into making sure that the tech is rock solid at launch. Additionally the ATEM Mini Extreme runs about that price and is also JUST a 1080 switcher. When you add 4K, it adds a whole lot more complexity to the mix and sometimes that can cause additional problems. In this instance, I would say that if this is a really important for your needs, then I would suggest you get an alternative switcher or use 4K capture cards for your computer. Let me know if this helps or not.

@@DavidHunte first of all Thanks for all your inf, was complete and I agree with you. I read and watching tons of content about ATEM mini pro ( ISO or normal ) but non of them never talking about record output quality and this is very complicated for me. at this moment even I don't know ATEM Mini Pro just can switch between some 4K camera and output record with 4K 60 FPS when I connect that to OBS or not (I don't need ATEM effect or any help more of switching my cameras of that). finally if I can't find any option, I don't know how can I fix this problem, because I can't but 3 expensive capture card for 3 camera and this is relay stupid. do I have any switchers with this situation? sorry for long words. Thank you.

Ordered one, just because I like your face! It solves some of my Magewell Director Mini issues, namely audio! My hope is, I can remove my StreamDeck XL, gigantic RodeCaster Pro II, and the MageWell in a cradle, as this combo takes up a lot of real estate on smaller desks when we travel. Not going to lie, subbed because you're cute! Seven scenes will not be enough for complex streams, but we use vMix on paid gigs, and the RodeCaster video still can be used to feed in 6 video feeds to a vMix input. Nice. I would love to see NDI at some point; however, again, we can always use this in conjunction with vMix to fulfill that.
