What do you mean by "it took her to being drop of a cliff to realize [sic]"? But yeah that scene with the spider was annoying, Adora didn't see what we did and she ended up thinking she saved Catra. The problem is that Catra is proud, it wouldn't have been the first time that Catra denied being bested, like when she claimed that she let Adora win when they were training at a younger age or how she supposedly didn't care about becoming force captain. So Adora just assumed Catra was being her usual self making shit up about how she was handling it.

A lot of people dont realize Adora is just as traumatized by Shadow Weaver’s upbringing as Catra is. It just manifests differently for her. Adora automatically tries to take responsibility for everything even when noone is asking her to or when people literally dont want her to (which is one of the reasons her relationship with Glimmer breaks down in season 4 - as queen, Glimmer is now responsible for leading the rebellion, but Adora keeps trying to take that away from her without even asking Glimmer). Adora taking responsibility for everything also causes her extreme stress (leading to her complete inability to relax) as well as severe guilt (when things go wrong she immediately assumes its all her fault). Adora is also dangerously selfless, she only ever thinks about the needs of others and neglects herself to the point where she is instantly willing to sacrifice her own life without any hesitation. Shadow Weaver messed both of them up.
