Hi, I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's always hard when you lose a companion. I'm sure you can remember the many sweet years together. I wanted to ask you about the temperament of this kitten? I am thinking about purchasing one and I'm not sure if they are very wild? The breeder has told me they are very good around furniture and lap cats. However this videos shows otherwise. And would he be okay around another kitten? A Balinese? Also last question are they expensive? She wants to charge 1300? Thanks
@classicjukebox8 жыл бұрын
TheFitMuslimah I am sure it depends on the breeder as to the temperment. I highly recommend an Abyssinian...but get two...they will be happy companions when you are not home and I am sure will live longer.

Had to put our Abyssinian to sleep yesterday. Hardest thing we've ever had to do, but he was suffering and dying very slowly. We loved Simba and literally would never try any other breed of cat after he left such a human like presence in our house.
@kristaalexander68557 жыл бұрын
Garrett Chandler you did the right thing. Losing a pet is always hard but its kinda selfish to let them suffer. We had to put my lab mix down a few months ago. She had cancer. But i think she understood.
@lindapettersen10066 жыл бұрын
Garrett Chandler I also had an Abyssinian named Simba. He was 15 and died slowly in my arms. He took part of my heart with him to heaven. In the meantime I had 3 dogs to care for and a husband who died of ALS I now have my new Abyssinian who is the love of my life. I named him Kion bc of the Lion guard / Simba & Nala legacy. My grandchild voted for the name Kion. I will never be without an Addy in my life. The are the best.

We had an Abyssinian-Tabby mix when I was a teenager. She would only look at the television of it was on the PBS channel...then she'd just stare at the program until it was over.
@lekkki18 жыл бұрын
Our abys were always extremely affectionate and loving, and loved to be picked up once they reached about 3 years old. Prior to that I think they were just in their " I am way too cool for this nonsense" phase. Teenagers. That does not mean they weren't affectionate, especially when you went to bed. Purring, snuggling and lots of chat. If you want one, be prepared: Highly intelligent (scary smart, they are door openers, window openers, escape artists, article hiders and hoarders, etc. ) Super energetic, want to go everywhere with you, want to be with you at all times. No matter how old they get, they seem to have a "perma-kitten" attitude. Best to get two if you are a working person, that way they can hang out with one another while you are out slaving away to buy them their toys.
@thefitmuslimah46708 жыл бұрын

I agree with almost everything here EXCEPT the not liking to be held part. I have a 6 year old abby and he immediately starts purring when ever he's held. His favorite thing to do is just be held and carried all around the house. And it's true, these cats are FEARLESS! You could be vacuuming or using power tools and the cat will just sit right next you watching. Only moving if something gets more then an inch close to it. You have to watch out as that lack of fear can sometimes get them into trouble.

I have a cat named Mister Snails who I'm 90% certain is at least part Abyssinian. He's the smartest cat I've ever had, he's extremely affectionate, friendly, and social, and he's unusually calm in situations that would stress other cats. After having a cat like him, I'm pretty certain I won't be satisfied with any other breed. It's so wonderful having a cat that will escort me on walks, and who's always waiting to lovingly greet me when I get home from work. He's also much more popular in the community than I am. Everyone in my apartment complex seems to know him and always comments on how much they love him, because he adores going outside to make cuddle visits and socialize with his many human friends. I strongly recommend getting a cat with Abyssinian ancestry! Mister Snails is by far the best cat I've ever had, and so far I've lived with at least 10 other kitties of various breeds. None of them were as quite as clever, social, cuddly, or loyal as Mister Snails. A word of warning, though-- Snails is a very manipulative, inquisitive cat, and he's constantly finding new ways of getting into trouble. I'm guessing that most Abyssinians have a similar penchant for using their cunning to cause mayhem and get what they want, so don't get one unless you're ready to handle their curiosity and intelligence!

Someone suspected our rescue cat was at least part Abyssinian, and she meets just about all the criteria. Definitely looks a lot like these. However, she doesn’t mind being held, isn’t super “wild” - about average I’d say - and honestly the grooming thing was underselling it; she doesn’t seem to shed a hair. Great breed all around, if that’s indeed what she is. *Edit:* Also, she used to “scratch” the furniture, but not actually ever damage it, somehow. Magic. (we still got her a proper cardboard scratcher just for good measure though and now *that’s* her favorite thing in the world.)

I am pretty sure that they originated in Ethiopia (Abyssinia). I am disappointed that scientists are not sure about its origin considering that the Somali Cat, similar with Abyssinian cat with longer hair but shorter body length are proven to have Abyssinian cat's recessive gene. Either way, these cats are everywhere in Ethiopia both domestic and wild. They are also commonly seen around churches, monasteries and mosques all over Ethiopia (I mean everywhere in a country twice the size of Texas/ France). The domestic ones will drain your energy if you let them play with you especially at a young age or kitten. They seem to have endless energy and love to play. If a baby is born in the cat's (owners) home, meaning the cat is older than the newborn human baby, they tend to be extremely overprotective and lifetime best friend of that person. Unfortunately, we tend not to value these treasurable habits.

We had an Aby called Findus. We had to put him down at the age of 10. He was the perfect cat: absolutely LOVED pats and would demand love, attention and lots of holds. You would find him anywhere! In your cupboard of clothes, in a garage box, ect. This is the story of how we had to put him down: So first he was acting funny so loping around and falling. He wanted to get a drink from the sink but he jumped up and missed. He has never missed at all so we took him to the vet. Turned out he ate a bit of a rat from the park that has rat poison in it. Findus had lost most of his movement and all his vision, but occasionally lifted his head because he could hear our voices talking to him. He was the best cat and my whole family was so upset. If we ever get another cat we will make it an inside cat I reckon.

The LOVE to be held. My 6 year old abby immediately starts purring when he's picked up. He loves being carried all over the place. It's like an adventure and he loves being able to smell and rub his head against things he can't reach unless he's being carried. Unless it's a total stranger or the cat is just in a "mood" at the moment, I'd say 99% of the time abby's like being held. The key (with any cat) is proper support. Cats like it when at least 3 of their paws are touching something for support.
