16:20 I think the reason you see crazy cat ladies and not crazy dog ladies is cats are a much more passive pet. You can feed a cat and let it go outside and it’ll come back, dogs aren’t the same they require a lot more attention. Also getting more cats can also be a passive thing, once you feed enough cats the cats realize this is now “cat hangout spot” and you get more cats

This video madly misinterprets a statistic we’ve known to be misleading for years. Among cats that were *taken to the hospital,* 90% survived because those were the ones that survived without injuries that were quickly fatal. The survival rates seemed to increase for higher falls because if a cat is falling from a great height and lands on a hard surface, odds are it’s not getting taken to a vet, but to a morgue (a cat morgue?) Cats are great and can survive falls from great heights, but they’re not immune to fall damage and they’re not more likely to survive if they drop from a greater height.

Casual reminder that you should not let your cats outside. Not only do they wreak havoc on local ecosystems, killing billions of local animals a year, but it is extremely dangerous for the cat, too! The things they kill have a chance of causing diseases, they are at risk of attack from other wildlife, and cars are a serious threat. Cats when let outside have a several mile wander radius, so even if you feel like you live really far from anything that can be dangerous for your cat, you are still likely in range of busy roads, hunting grounds for for predators, or grazing areas for animals like deer(deer are a serious threat to cats it's not even funny).

I do agree it's pretty dangerous as my cat was literally attacked and almost died so we don't let him outside anymore but I never understood the ecosystem argument. Aren't there plenty of predators that kill way more than "billions" of local prey animals a year? Ive never studied ecosystems or anything so maybe I don't get it but it just doesn't seem realistic to me that just 10-20 housecats in an average sized suburban/rural area could have a real effect on anything.

@jamjam8795 the main difference is that those other predators hunt to eat and rarely hunt for fun because that's a waste of energy. Housecats are fed at home already, so they have no need to hunt for food. That leads to them killing way more than any predator of their size would. And in addition, cats are insanely skilled predators and will out compete pretty much any predator that fills a similar dietary niche in whatever environment they get dropped in. They're practically an invasive species wherever they are Also, poor kitty! Glad he's okay

Is there any actual proof that toxoplasmosis affects humans the same way that it affects mice? Why would lessened reaction to cat pee in rodents translate as a love for cats in humans? Honestly we have to analyze our weird relationship with cats, because this toxoplasmosis meme is the latest in an irrational hatred for these animals, which, believe it or not, is linked deeply with our disdain for certain groups of people.
