weaponising animals was mostly done by the US. They tried some really wacky stuff - minesweeper dolphins, bats with IEDs, pigeon-guided missiles... The funniest one is actually not from ww2, but the cold war. So, nuclear explosives don't do very well if exposed to the cold for a long time, right? Worried about a potential Soviet invasion of West Germany, they considered planting NUCLEAR LANDMINES HEATED BY LIVE CHICKENS around the country. Yeah. I think that one speaks for itself really.

i love how coney second guessed his dino bones dragon theory when, at least at a surface level (i am not a historian or paleontologist) it seems like it makes sense. humans hadnt already dug up the 1000s of dinosaur fossils we have in museums around the world, so they probably would have been easier to find, though still not just laying around left and right obviously

8:39 Actually, Coney is correct here. Dinosaur bones were easier to find, since dirt hadn't piled on them as much as they had nowadays. And since they found Dinosaur Bones and had no clue what to do with them, and a lot of fossils are very brittle, a lot of these found bones would just be broken due to lack of caretaking. This means there are less Dinosaur bones today then before.

~ About fossils, dragons, and such ~ Even today, the human mind is fairly hard-wired towards permanence - we develop so many mental-shortcuts to manage our everyday lives that we get pretty upset if anything deviates from our learned expectations. Add to this the fact that we once knew nothing about fossilization (even today, many people view fossils as 'bones' rather than 'stones') or any of the associated geological processes, and you can see how readily someone stumbling onto the 'skeleton' of a huge obviously-reptilian beast would believe it to be something which died fairly recently (like within the past year). Also consider how the aforementioned geological processes tend to accumulate fossils in close proximity, as well as the fact that fossilization itself is hit-or-miss (meaning that fossils are often incomplete). Now visualize finding a mostly-complete velociraptor (or other comparable dinosaur) laying atop a single wing from a pterodactyl (again, or similar creature)... Given how it was fairly common to encounter the skeletal remains of a cow or such, you can probably work out the resulting chain of logic: "This is some kind of lizard which stood six to eight feet tall and had about a fifteen-foot wingspan. Something even bigger tore off its other wing, leaving it unable to fly which is why it died. Bones are normally white, but they turn black (and stay that way) when something burned them."
