Cats are better. Cats can catch their own food, cats are clean, cats don't cry all the times. Babies look like gross aliens for the first few months and people are like "Aww, he is the cutest." People who have kids should not own animals. Kids do not know better to not harm animals. I hear lots LOTS story's of kids doing messed up things to animals just because "they don't know any better" If you own a kid don't own a animals. That's what I believe.

What if you have an animal for years and then have a kid? Should you put your cat in the shelter where it will probably be put to sleep? Honestly...can you imagine how many homeless pets there would be? And how would we teach the younger generation to love animals? The trick is not to deprive them of contact with animals, but teach them how to interact safely with them.

Every kid at a young age has mind of a sociopath. Kids can not think of other peoples feelings. only there own. See see and do. Kids can do stuff without thinking. They can be with animals but only with the supervision of a adult. Kids should never be alone with a animal at all! Don't try to back it up because its a fact. Some kids may not be very bad but I am saying kids can do messed up things. I was there when my friends let her baby sister look at a baby bird and first thing the baby did was grab its neck and try to choke it. Cats are also a major animal that gets harmed from kids because baby's can overpower a cat.

Nicola Locke Exactly. I know many people (including my parents) who never owned animals growing up, so grew to think of them as pests and vermin. These people went on to own pets later on in life and were actually shocked at how loving these animals were. My parents said they never knew that cats could be so human like, and the only were they were able to find this out is by owning one. They now love them like their own children. I think it's better to have contact with them, to live with them, and see them not just as 'animals' but as part of the family.

To the people who say that the babies deserved it: water doesn't harm cats, sure they might not like it, but it isn't particularly damaging, but the cats claw the babies for just moving. The baby doesn't know any better, it's a baby! The cats have no reason to lash out at the babies but the cats are soulless and find it fun to attack another species' offspring. Not all cats are soulless though, my cat is so sweet and loves my baby cousin but when he gets annoyed he just walks off, not attacks the child.

Brent Schulte Cats get drowned, ingest soapy water, get beaten, pulled on, etc. Kids get pounced on for .5 seconds before the cat runs off because they're just trying to get the hell away. That one kid could have had scabs from anything, don't assume.

+Kasumi Lee I didn't see any cat get drowned I saw cats get put in water freak out and the climb out the tub once was the cat pulled back in slightly and then he got out anyway. I saw way more examples of babies getting pounced by cats for what looked like no reason because for a good bit of them the baby was really bothering the cat. The cat ran up and pounced on them.

fiyahman1000 do you not realize how spooked cats can get. Cats don't pounce for no reason, either the baby gave them a reason before the video was shot,or they were scared. Or they were playing, which is completely possible, because cats play pounce and bite. Thats how they play, and it causes no real damage. That cat could of ingested that soap in the water,and could of gotten really ill or been poisoned by it. Cats get /beaten/ violently by children, thrown by them. Keep children away from animals unless you're gonna teach them how to treat them.

i don't know man, having pets around toddlers seems mostly dangerous and irresponsible to me. both can get seriously hurt. and most of the time the pet is gonna get the blame when the kid gets hurt even though the pet was just trying to defend itself and doesn't understand that it's a baby human. parents shouldn't allow this until the child can comprehend that a pet is not a harmless toy.

Some of them seemed a bit mean - I know young kids don't really know what they're doing, but that's probably why you shouldn't get a cat if you have small children. My family cat was a rescue from a home where the two year old was left alone with her most days, and he tormented her all the time before she got taken to the RSPCA. She's fine now, but in the beginning she was extremely skittish and aggressive because of how badly she'd been treated.
