I've never grown these groups of cattleya since I've thought they need lots of sun to bloom! Very nice care tips. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your blooms.
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary 🤗💐 they do need a lot of light to bloom, but not direct sun until they start pushing new growths. Despite mine getting a lot of bright shade in the summer, it only gets direct sun once the new growths start. It is worth a try, Mary.... it does not take up much space. 😃 Thank you for your kind feedback and taking the time to watch. Have a wonderful day 🎄🌸

Very useful observations. I haven't a Cattleya cernua but I do have three related species. Thanks for sharing, stay safe.
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patricia 🤗💐 which other related species do you have? I ask, because I really have a thing for these small compact growing ones. I have the coccinea as well... which I absolutely adore, but find it to be much slower in growth habit compared to the cernua. But the blooms... last forever. So, if you would let me know what other related species you have, I would possibly add them to the list of 'one day' 😅 Thank YOU very much for taking the time to watch!! Have yourself a wonderful day as well 🌸
@patriciasorchids39993 жыл бұрын
I have a Cattleya brevipedunculata, C. coccinea and a C. mantiqueira. I find the Cattleya mantiqueira the easiest to grow and bloom. I haven't managed to get my Cattleya coccinea to bloom yet.
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
I would love a brevipedunculata, seeing as I have the orange color, and the red in the coccinea, I am missing the pink / lavender. But... when times change, i will go for the matiqueira and others as well. My coccinea took 2 years to bloom. I think that now that I have potted it up, it may refuse to bloom this year, until it is once again accustomed to it's new set up! Thank you for letting me know your varieties x

Hi Karen!! 🤗💐 indeed she is! But... not for long... she is going into a pot when I see root growth! I think she will be happy in a square pot, like my rupicolous laelias and I will be happy not to have to mess with her during the hottest months of the year, when she is resting. I look forward to potting her up. Thank you, Karen, for watching! I really appreciate it, and wish you a wonderful day! 🌸

I love this species! Mine is done flowering now for the season as our cooler nights come earlier. Starting roots now! Mine has been really vigorous and has bloomed on every new growth. I will share this clone with as many people as I can. Great video and congratulations on all the bloom!

Hi Scott! 🤗💐 it truly is a real cool orchid, I have to say! And it's 'just there'.... such a joy to grow, so predictable, and very reliable, which makes it all the more special 😃 I will be so happy to get this off the mount and not have to nervously remoss during the heat of summer, so.... to know that your's is on the root growth front, makes me all the more excited for that to start on mine, but first... lets enjoy the blooms as they open 😅 Thank you very. much for your kind and encouraging feedback! And for watching, your support, the whole 9 yards!! Thank you 🌸

My brevipedunculata is doing a new growth too(and a new root on the latest cane) so in quite a similar state i think. I am watching at the new groth and i am wondering if it has the same growth pattern as the cernua. My hoping eyes see a plumb growth, but it probably isn't 🤣🤣 I think for me the start is when a new growth starts. Rest periods can be anywhere for orchids, some bloom after rest, some start roots after blooms, some never rest, so for me a new growth is the start. Great care guide video, i only got one, but i think sophronitis are great 😁 i just saw my own short appear in my short list 🤣🤣

Hi Maykel 🎄🤗 thank you for watching another one of my videos! I have never seen a brevipedunculata, but judging by the plant shape, it has the same growing pattern. So.... if that growth of your's is chubby, chances are, it will bloom. I hope so!! I find it so interesting to hear the different takes on what we consider the 'start' of a cycle. I have no way of knowing and so far, an orchid has not actually come right out and told me, but, I always find it fascinating nonetheless. They are gorgeous creatures.... not just plants, but true creatures ☺️ Have a wonderful Monday, Maykel 🌸

Hi 🦒!!! Greetings to you too Xyliano, maybe we could me meet, one of these days 🦜!!! I don't think plants really rest in the sense of doing nothing, unless is a sick plant. Healthy plants are always preparing for the next phase. What a wonderful specimen, love it ❤️. It will look so nice in a pot. I love it all about Sophronitis, starting with the cute succulent-like leaves. Enjoy those gorgeous blooms and have a wonderful last day of autumn🍃🍁🍂. Mingi, mingi hugs Rafiki yangu 🤗🤗😍❤️

FFF 🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🙌🏼😬🤗💐 Absolutely correct, you are! The resting term is misused, and I should not be using it in the context that I do. I always try to steer away from using terminology for the sake of not explaining what the orchid could really be doing. I have to do better and will definitely make a point of remembering that 'resting' is rubbish! Just like, I have a problem with 'feeding orchids'... animals, babies, etc get fed... plants etc get fertilized, so... I try not to let that lingo creep into my language. I caught myself saying 'feed' in one of my videos while editing, but it was too late to film the clip again, so I let it slide, but yes... there is certain lingo out there that I do not want to adopt, and resting.... is one of them. Just to be more specific, it doesn't take much. I sooo look forward to potting it up, Fernanda... you have no idea, or maybe you do because you are the same regarding moss and it's unsightliness. 😅 in a few months, in a pot she goes, and it will be a bigger pot because I will not touch her again for many years, unless something goes horribly wrong. Let's hope not ☺️ Have yourself a stunnning Sunday, meine liebe Freundin! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch, vecina mia!! I really appreciate it!! You look absolutely amazing!! 😍

Stunning miniature!😍 I like to stick with the old names since it makes it easier for me to remember what they require, what the differnces are in size of the plant and so on. I find it a bit ridicolous that almost everything is now named cattleya..😅 Have a lovely Christmas, and a happy New Year Nina!!🎄🍾🎉😊
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maria! 🤗💐 Isn't she a cutie!! LOVE her! I am the old name kinda fan... what is wrong with all these different looking cattleyas being classified as cattleya... its just dumb, imo... and it looks so much like a sophronitis because of it's uniqueness, as well as the pointer of it's distinct culture requirements 🤷🏼♀️ leave the names alone! I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year, as well, Maria! Thank you so much for watching ❤️🌸

Hi Nicole 🤗💐 I am so not doing anything for Christmas... no decorating, nothing.... haven't done so for years! I am not a grinch, and love seeing everyone get into the spirit of things around this time of year, but... it doesn't do anything for me 😬 which was great while I worked because I always worked over the holidays to give everyone to whom the holidays are important and who wants to be home with family, the opportunity to do so. And that is the same with New Year, 3 kings (big in Spain) and Easter... any holidays for that matter. For my children, I went all out, but stopped when they started leaving their own lives. I have no problem with any holidays, love the decorations, but again, do zilch about it, personally 😅 I hope that doesn't sound harsh 🙏🏼 Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! I really appreciate it! Have yourself a fantastic, stress free run up to Christmas 🎄🌸

@@NinjaOrchids it doesn't sounds harsh, I don't put up a tree because I find it inconvenient 😂😂 I don't really decorate much either, but I give gifts and bake cookies to get into the spirit haha!

Care to care? Is that a typo? I would say the beginning of the cycle is when it is "resting", when new roots start. She's such an odd Cattleya, where the leaf is the sheath but such a little charmer.
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
Don Miguel, Jambo sana Bwana 🥰💐it was not a typo... I was trying to imply would you like to care for a cernua, in polite old English. 'I would care for a cookie, yes' as opposed to 'I would like to have a cookie, yes'... Does that make sense? If not, and it's dumb, and doesn't come across well, let me know, and I will change it. I like these little cattleyas.... I would like to have the brevipedunculata some day as well. I love how long the blooms on coccinea last, so, it is my favorite of the 2 sophronitis that I have. Slow grower though. This one is fast in comparison, once the new growths start. My coccinea is developing the new growths from when I repotted it, but it is every so slow and they started way before the cernua. Still... surpassing my bloom count of last year, with only 3 growths open, I am so pleased! Mine only starts new roots when it has finished blooming. I had a few tips starting to grow with the new growths, but it is not the same as what happens after it finishes blooming! I cannot wait to get it into a pot! The surface of the moss looks 🤢 especially close up! Sunday, funday.... I sure hope it will be for you! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch ❤️🌸
@michaelmccarthy40773 жыл бұрын
@@NinjaOrchids ahh, OK, now I get it. I'm just used to videos being titled "how to care for xxx". The blooms on coccinea are much larger, correct? You don't want a pygmaea and wittigiana as well? Might as well get the full set. 😉 (Sunday is not starting well, I was at the hospital from 12 AM-4 AM, my mother is still there)
@NinjaOrchids3 жыл бұрын
😥 ❤️ oh I would love to have the full set... I did not see the pygmaea or wittigiana available ever here... the pygmaea looks very similar to the coccinea and the wittigiana very similar to brevipedunculata 🤷🏼♀️ yes... the coccinea bloom is huge compared to the cernua and the size of the plant as well. It is very very striking! And soooo long lasting, I love it! Hang in there rafiki!! 🥰
