Cattleya King George 'Serendipity' Review

An old hybrid, but a classic. One of the best "soft pink" Catts ever produced with a delightful fragrance. One trait that some people love and some hate with this one, it tends to produce one set of growth in the spring that will bloom in early autumn and a second set of growth starts in late summer that blooms in winter. I happen to like the repeat blooming, rather than some of the other Catts that push two or three growths in a year but only give you one mass blooming (I'm looking at you Iwanagaara Appleblossom). There is also a yellow form, George King 'Southern Cross'. IMO the yellow of Southern is too diffuse, there are a lot of better yellow Catts, but it does have a very powerful fragrance.

Oh my goodness my George King arrived yesterday. The box was so long I thought wow they really overpacked it nicely. I removed the peanuts and shredded paper and stood the pot upright before removing the paper wrapping. Wowza it’s huge from what I expected. It looks like I bought half a jungle lol. I will have to send a pic. It is in sheath so I’ll see what happens. All because I saw your video. Thank you so much for introducing me to this orchid. Happy growing.

This is truly a high class orchid that I can very well imagine a King would want to have in his possession. I looked up the orchid herself and discovered that it also comes in a variety of colors, including bright peachy salmon pastel orange! HOLLY MOLLY!

Wonderful! I'm so glad you did a video on this variety! I got the smallest bagged Better Gro size of this one at the local Lowe's and it has a ways to go before blooming size. It hasn't grown very fast but I hope I can get it to become like this one day. I love this video because it confirms everything great I've heard about this variety. I would love to to smell the fragrance in person especially.

Yes many of the orchid reviews are orchids that were for sale...although they are not available now as they have sold. I get majority of my orchids at a private growers here in Apopka and also in Tampa. I have heard that this orchid is a slow grower so I believe patience is key...but once she blooms you find that she is truly worth the wait. I am hoping that she blooms for you soon! I live in west central Florida. I’ve had a king George for almost 2 years that has produced plenty of vegetation, but no blooms. Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to get it to bloom. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!

Orchids need sunshine to bloom (morning or late afternoon sun directly on the leaves)
