This is about how the older "Drop Forged Steel" Jamestown Crescent wrenches had extra wide jaws and an extra thick head and were heavier duty then the newer more cheapified Jamestown made wrenches and both of the Jamestown wrenches are much better the the post buyout US made crescent wrenches.

Nice look at these Crescent 12"ers. (My adjustables are either PROTO or Challenger, from back in the day.) Like that Williams wide-jaw and that 15"! My Grandfather (1908-2000) told me, 40 years ago, that his original Ford T Models all came with a Crescent wrench stock equipment. Apparently, Henry Ford had a deal with Jamestown for his earliest autos. Great review, Ty.

I found an 8 inch Jamestown crescent several years ago, it has the thick jaws. At the time I didn’t realize what I had. I recently found a 12 inch Jamestown. The jaws and the head are really thick. More so than the newer ones that I have. Thanks for the video

Just got a 4" old old school wide jaw Jamestown to add to my collection which is awesome. I have one already but its a newer old school. I needed the older drop forged steel one! The 4" are not easy to find. Even the 6" old old school ones are getting harder to find. Most of them are crestoloy which are still nice and I have some along with 8" but I really like them older school ones. Great video! Very informative. Thanks! Edit* just got myself a 15" for 25 bucks! Old old school! Found an 18" also! It's YUGE!

I live in Jamestown to this day. My grandfather started working at Crescent Tool at age 16 in 1926 as a window washer. He retired at 65 in 1975 as foreman of the die-sinkers - the hammershop where the drop forging took place. He used to tell of one of their quality control measures where the inspector would screw the jaws all the way closed. He would hold them up to the light, and if any daylight was visible between the jaws, that wrench would automatically be rejected.

Nice video thanks. That's when they made tool's. I got a 24" one for the tractor in Maine from harbor freight and it's not bad if you left it outside who cares. My snap on you run right out side looking for it and wipe it off oil it but harbor freight who cares toss it in the barn floor. But the big old one is nice.

I’ve got a J.P Danielson Jamestown crescent wrench in my daily use tool bag that I think even pre-dates the Crescent brand. The fit and finish on it is amazing, still works perfectly.

It does have a part number, you have to remove the screw that hold the adjuster and on the adjustable jaw you will find the model number. I found that my tool number is A112J, I have no clue how old it is but it seem to be the pretty old..

Interesting... but my adjustable wrenches literally haven't been off the pegboard since I first acquired the Knipex 'Pliers-Wrench' c. early 90's or so. BTW, Snap On has some interesting new long nose slip joints in the works... the LN47ACF. Some are even in circulation.

I found an older model 12" Crescent like that at a consignment shop in the 90s. It is much better made than any of the others I have.

I found this channel while researching a pair of 6-inch diagonal pliers, marked Crescent Tool Co., Jamestown, N.Y. with "940" over "6" and "U.S." stamped near the handle. I suspect they were government issue for the Army or Navy but want a time period, if possible. But, after watching your video, I naturally went to check my adjustable wrenches. I have one whose only markings are "32" and "ECC" at the end of the handle on one side and "ECC" on the sliding jaw. They were formed during forging and not stamped. The jaw and thumb screw run smooth and are not sloppy (Crescent-made?). HOWEVER, the slot and cylinder are slightly off-center and the finish machining is sloppy (seconds/irregulars?). Could you give me some insight as to ages or point me towards sources for more information? Thank you for any help you can give me.

Those thicker jaw ones are proper nice for hard use . Some of the older german and spanish ones had thicker jaws too . is a case of needing both style jaws thus a good excuse get more tools, Since watching your vids on adjustable wrenches I have wasted fair bit of time and dime on finding some clean older versions ...

Actually the old one if you take it apart the piece that moves on the jaw has the A112J stamped on the inside of it. I have a 12 just like that. older is WAY BETTER I actually just took mine apart and polished it back to new and regreased the moving parts and I'm positive my son will have it one day cuz it's as good as new.
