I love this breed. And im considering getting one. My only concern is I will likely foster children further down the line and I don’t know if the guarding nature of the dog with a new person in the house.

If you will buy a Caucasian Shepherd puppy and you will socialize it properly, than it should not be a problem. You should invite some people to your house to meet your puppy, so the puppy can see this is a normal thing. Also, you should meet some children and show the puppy that they are friends. If you will not support the protective and territorial side, than it should not be a problem. Of course, if you want the dog to be a guard and protector, than it might be hard to include new people to your home.. Because they can grow into very territorial animals

Rocadog you can do both tho. So that dogs accept your friends and fam without issues and strangers that you get along with. But on command they become protective and if they don’t have your consent they will be guarding. It’s all about training too. Not just socialization. This is a great vid. But I don’t think it’s right to say you can either have a friendly dog or a guard dog. It’s about training to get the most out of this breed. Socializing is essential for all guard dogs and all dogs for that matter. So you should be socializing regardless of breed. TRAINING is a big must for the Ovcharka.

Wow!!! What other breeds would you compare them in size? St. Bernards, Berners, Great Danes, Irish Wolf Hounds, Newfies, Great Pyrenees, etc? Very good video. I have heard of this breed but I have never seen on in real life. Are they very protective that new people and animals would feel unwelcome around them?

In terms of weight, all the dogs you mentioned can be compared to them. Definitely some big mastiffs as well, for example English Mastiff. And then all the East European/Balkan/Asian sheepdogs, like Kangals, Kurdish Shepherd, Anatolian Shepherd or Sarplaninac. Those would be the most similar dogs. About the protection.. They definitely have strong protective instinct and they can be trained to be extraordinary protectors. But it is all about the training and socialization. If you socialize your puppy to meet a LOT of people, kids, dogs etc, who will also visit your house, than they will grow into friendly dogs. They will still have the protective side in them, of course, but they will accept strangers, if you will show them that it is your friend.

This dog is originated in Georgia not in Caucasus mountains. It's called Georgian Shepard Dog.
