There's no double o, so it can't be booni, it's with short 'o' sound - /ɑ/. Do you know that Bobby Farrel, dancing in that video clip, made almost no vocal contributions to the group's records? that guy was brought into the band for his dancing, he didnt actually sing on any of the songs, the guy who wrote all the music is the one singing on the tracks...Farian was the true mastermind behind this band. He had picked three women and a man from a catalog of artists for the formation, and the voice on the recordings was his own. Bobby Farrell, the "lead singer" and dancer in Boney M., simply moved his lips in sync to the songs when performing on stage.

This is a German group but Boney M. was a Euro-Caribbean vocal group created by German record producer Frank Farian. Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the group's official line-up was from Jamaica, one from Aruba, and one from Montserrat. You're Jamaican too if I'm not mistaken right? This at one time was one of the biggest selling groups in the world, besides ABBA and the Beatles.

I was a young woman in the 70s when Boney M were the hottest thing on the dance floor. They were just HUGE here in the UK. And here's the thing, they crossed all music boundaries and age boundaries. My parents were born in the 1920s and they loved By The Rivers of Babylon and Mary's Boy Child. My own favourite is Rasputin. You have got to have a look at that one!

This band was a product, just as the case of Millie Vanillie, designed by the same producer Frank Farian. What we hear isn't Bobby Farrel's voice but Farian's. Bobby passed away in 2010 in Russia.

You have just discovered one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures. Bobby Farrell is the man! (RIP) He is lip synching, of course, and I think Frank Farian is the actual vocalist (the guy who brought you Milli Vanilli, remember?). Bobby was from Aruba, if I recall correctly. I think his trademark was that hairy chest, and those moves. You can't stop watching him. "Rasputin" is a classic ("Oh, those Russians!).

I think it's awesome that you are always looking to something positive to say about a song. That's really cool. But I'M not a reactor so I'll tell the truth. This was my generation, I was a teen who crashed discos to enter dance contests (they were all the rage back then)....anyway, this song was a fun song but not anything anyone took seriously as "good" music. The name is pronounced "bone-e". The only things he has in common with Prince is he's a skinny, black man. Prince was a musical genius. To compare this guy to Prince is laughable. It was a great reaction though. I enjoy watching you get such a kick out of the music. Keep 'em coming. ❤

We all went crazy for this band back in the 70's Jayvee. They went to No.1 with Rivers of Babylon and we sang it all day long. They had lots of good tracks and I still play the album to this song today. Sorry to burst any bubbles but his voice is not the voice you're hearing. Most people don't know that their German producer was the voice behind the singer. It spoiled it for me to find that out but I still enjoy them. P.S. You'd love their song: ' Brown Girl In The Ring."

When I was in my first year in college during freshers week a few of us were in my friends’ apartment having drinks before we headed out. We could see a bunch of guys doing the same thing in an apartment in the next block and they all left leaving one guy behind on his own. He put this song on and danced around to it by himself 😂 We came across him later that night in the club and surrounded him singing this song. Great memories 👌🏻

I love his dancing. It's full speed eccentric. I could do without the moaning part though. I don't think it's in the studio version though.
