Yah I remember after Simply Irresistible got flak for basically no originality, the group Crowded House was doing an interview on MTV for their song Don't Dream It's Over - they slammed Robert and said something like "we like doing something original so it doesn't seem like the same thing over and over again - Right Mr. Palmer?" But i liked Palmer's music far more than Crowded House so laughs on them.

Robert Allen Palmer (19 January 1949 - 26 September 2003) was an English singer-songwriter,[1] musician and record producer. He was known for his powerful, distinctive, gritty and soulful voice, sartorial elegance and for combining soul, jazz, rock, pop, reggae and blues. Palmer's involvement in the music industry began in the 1960s, covered four decades and included a spell with the band Vinegar Joe.[1][2] He found success both in his solo career and with the Power Station, and had Top 10 songs in both the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Three of his hit singles, "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On", "Addicted to Love" and "Simply Irresistible", were accompanied with stylish music videos directed by British fashion photographer Terence Donovan.[3] Palmer received a number of awards throughout his career, including two Grammy Awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, an MTV Video Music Award and two Brit Award nominations for Best British Male Solo Artist.[4][5] He died aged 54, following a heart attack on 26 September 2003.

Like Robert , we have lost so many great artists out there and as I rescrolled through your playlist today , I realized time has went too fast and we've lost so many music icons , even some before we really got into their music , so there's some rabbit holes for me to explore of musicians that passed away before I knew about them .

Based on how the video was shot, with the emotion-less, love-less expressions the women were told to maintain, “Addicted to Lust” would be more accurate. I think he was trying to make a point, but it likely got lost in the leggy shuffle. He made follow-up videos with the same set-up for the just-as-catchy songs “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” and “Simply Irresistible.”

Robert Palmer was one of those rock stars that just meant to be on a best dressed list. He just looked so good and didn't need flashy costumes on stage and he had a great voice to go with his music. He was without doubt the total package. Simply Irresistible, Bad Case of Lovin' You are a couple of his many songs to check out.

Quote Mr. Video "He looks like a guy you might see at the office." Robert Palmer was a very interesting character R.I.P. He was educated and trained in finances and that's what he wanted to do, be an investor and wear a 3 piece dark blue suit each day. He was passionate about music and realized (planned) that he needed start up money (chips) to enter finances as a private investor and that he could perhaps use music to provide that money, if successful. In the beginning he worked hard at music, he fronted a number of bands, most notable (to me) "Power Station". His sound was consistent, unique and marketable, a white people brand of funk music, always with a very dramatic bombastic rhythm section, recognizable Palmer from miles away. He did cover songs and transformed them into his style and sound, was successful with many hits. Once established, as a marketable name in music, he went solo (check out "every kind of people", huge hit) and he also took his earned money and started to invest and building up the networking contacts in the financial world. Robert Plant would show up Mon thru Fri in the daytime at the London Exchange (read British version of Wall Street), smoke cigars, sip Cognac and hang out with an extremely conservative, proper behaving crowd of top investors, turn around and be a music rock star on his time off. As he found success as an investor, he became more secluded as a musician, just recording and marketing his songs, not really supporting it with many concerts, interviews, TV appearances, etc. He didn't do that, he was a blue suit, high society investor now. At some point he started using stellar looking models in his videos (sex sells) and so, NO, the models featured in this song wouldn't know where to begin playing a real instrument. Simply Irresistible was such a great hit world wide that he laid off the investor time spent for a while to be a full musician again and support his new success with appearances, concerts, etc. He was a secluded private person, he owned his own Island in the Caribbean where he would spend off time and where he had a studio in which he conceptualized his music pretty much on his own. So the suit trousers, white shirt, tie and polished shoes really is his personality, and it's his stage act as well, with the models. This song was HUGE and Palmer had a two and a half decade distinguished career as a rock star and high rolling financial professional.

Robert Palmer is one of my all time favorites. When he died suddenly at just 54, I was so saddened. Gone too soon, but left a LOT of great music. 2 songs you may have heard are Early In The Morning which was a cover he did of a Gap Band Song, and he also covered Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me. But my top recommendation is Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor Doctor).

He did a big interview to discuss his sex addiction it was destroying his life (a new thing on the scene being discussed openly then in the 80s but was def new terminology). He said his therapist suggested he write a song about it as part of his therapy since he was a songwriter/musician. I think that was 1985 and then 3 years later in 1988 she did a song called Simply Irresistible which continues the story. Simply Irresistible is faster and more lighthearted with good rhymes. Glad you did this one come I figured you would get a kick out of it...considering what you mentioned was one of your hobbies.
