Those are models. They weren't hired for their musical talent or dancing abilities. 😂 They're just supposed to be bodacious babes. We were never sure if they knew how the instruments worked. 🤣 Robert was great. I came to know him as the lead singer of the Power Station. But he had a few of these hit videos with the models in the background. My favorite of which is "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On". He ended up having one of my favorite voices because I listened to some of his other stuff on his solo greatest hits and the songs the Power Station didn't release as singles. Favorites of those are "Lonely Tonight", "Harvest for the World" and "Remember to Remember". 🙏🏼💖

Fun fact: During the making of this music video, the models were very nervous about what they had to do. So the video director took them out to lunch, which included a lot of wine. That's why the ladies are not dancing in sync. They're all drunk.

This is definitely one of the best music videos to come out in the 80’s. Nobody truly thinks the girls in the back are actually musicians. A lot of music videos back then made absolutely no sense and would distract the listener.

Little known fact. The original chorus lyrics and song title were "Addicted to Drugs." Was deemed a little too risky at the time, seeing as the 80's were considered the decade of excess. Seriously, take a close listen to the lyrics. It all fits.

On the model in the back that you both noticed was "extra," here is some real cool info on her. A KZbin video about what happened to these 1980 vixens: The "Extra" lady playing guitar in the back you noticed was Already a big time model for Chanel. She was the "face" of the Chanel perfume Allure. I think it's the name. Anyways, Robert Palmer approached Her to be on this video! She didn't need the gig.but agreed to.be in it! Why she's placed in the back? Who knows but she made Damn sure she stood out from the other models! Now she designs and plants edible plant gardens in England for the public. Robert Palmer was interesting; the guy was suit and tie perfect and wrote great straight-up pop/rock tracks that felt like they had a bit more "class", dude said he would walk around with a pen and notebook in his pocket, write down lyrics on the spot so he wouldn't forget them, just little lyrical quips like this, easy stuff but effective hooks and lyrics.

The video concept, as with many 80's videos, was just meant to be original, fun, tongue-in-cheek...a bunch of models that were supposed to look the same air-guitaring-it. Kinda a goofy song too but fun. So you'll want to check out The Power Station (Robert with some Duran Duran members) at some point such as songs "Some like it Hot" and "Get It On Bang a Gong."

There were two solo artists during the 1980's that I coped their style; David Bowie and Robert Palmer. If a dude dressed like them and went to the clubs, and I dressed like them, you got the ladies' attention! Plus, I studied how they danced, and emulated that, as well. I could sing, too.
