For folks who do not understand. In the US there are laws about what flags can be flown on public flagpoles, and how the US flag is to be treated. Outside of an embassy or other very specific circumstances,no other nation's flag is to be flown on a public flagpole, period! The NYPD was simply doing its job here.

Here in Mexico, we respect the flag, and even our nation has a flag day. The government considers any misuse of our flag as a crime, so we never even dream of doing such a thing as desecrating it.
