I dont think that Jeff ever played his guitar to make money Yeh, maybe when he was a young kid , he thought it might have been cool and given him a lifestyle that he had dreamed of. When he had that lifestyle given to him, he realised that he didn't actually want it. He played like no-one else ever has or ever will.

So you've picked an argument with a lot of people who ARE due respect! - including Beck himself. I'm not a big fan of Jimi's music - but he was nevertheless a god among mortals and they all knew it. Clapton almost had a nervous breakdown after hearing Jimi - and shied away from him after that! But Clapton never refused to play with Beck. So - per logical thinking - someone who didn't scare Clapton is a lesser player than someone who did scare Clapton. And only Jimi scared him. It's a terrible shame that Jimi didn't live to profoundly humble another generation of guitarists or two!

I love the way Doyle just comes in, doesn't try to upstage anyone, no pyrotechnics, just plays a piece that perfectly captures the mood and fades into the background. He's a master guitar player and deserves to be on the stage with Jeff and Eric.

@@dmljones2550 That’s correct. Doyle Bramhall ll grew up in Austin, his father, Doyle Bramhall, was a song writer and drummer who played with many bands included the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Doyle jr. is right handed but picked up a guitar when he was very young and it just felt right to hold it as if he was playing left handed. If you notice, it’s strung with the low E Sting on the bottom, it's basically a right handed set up just flipped upside down. Stevie Ray Vaughn would bring Doyle up on stage to play with him and became his mentor. After SRV died, Doyle and Charley Sextent formed The Arc Angels using the rhythm section from Stevie’s band. He’s been Clapton’s right hand guy for almost 20 yrs and in the mid 2000’s he toured with Roger Waters. Check out Comfortably Numb with Doyle and Snowy White. It just may be the best version of that tune. He also has a number of albums out. At any rate, I think he’s one of the best out there.

There will never be another Jeff Beck, what he’s done with the guitar over the years is astonishing..it’s like no one has ever had the nerve, or the skill to copy what he’s done. And of course there’s Eric we all know what a genius he is. But there’s another guitar player up there a lot people probably have no clue who he is or just how awesome he is and that’s Doyle Brahmhall 2 . His dad Doyle senior was a drummer and song who was great friends with Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughan and actually wrote a few of Stevie’s hit recordings. I am overwhelmed by Jeff’s musicality. He makes that guitar SPEAK. First saw Jeff when he replaced Eric in the Yardbirds. Hated him for that but soon as he started playing, realised his playing was magic. Saw him many times in the 60’s. Was so lucky to see and hear such masterpieces. Jeff you will never be forgotten. Don Harrold I’ve been a huge fan of Jeff Beck when Rod Stewart was the singer in his band. Have you heard John McLaughlin’s guitar playing from the early 70’s when he had his band Mahavishnu Orchestra or John McLaughlin with Carlos Santana “Love Devotion Surender” album from 1973. His guitar playing is very similar to Jeff Beck’s guitar playing. My favorite Jeff Beck albums are Blow by Blow and Wired.

I really hope Jeff left us with no regrets. His musical existence on this earth has a little bit of everything. From building his first 3 guitars on his own after hearing Les Paul for the first time when he was 13 , and the whole Yardbirds stent. Then Rod Stewart came along. I'm not sure he really wanted a four piece band like Zep. He knew how difficult he could be , and not surprising with the talent he had. One of his best attributes was the fact he gave so many up and coming artists opportunities to be recognized. Tal Wilkenfeld , just to name a few. It was just his life experience and amazing.

Something he's developed more and more over the years is [what we would have called a shaker bar] his tremolo and volume control stuff that makes his already masterful guitar work quite unique. and he gets better (doesn't seem possible) and better as the years go by. All I can say is ME ALSO. I grew up in the 60's and I wouldn't change it if I could. Best of everything occurred during this era. Back when the only thing burning at a protest was someones Draft Card. I practically lived at the State Capitol. Ive seen everything from Ceasar Chavez to the Black Panther party rallies. It's not gonna ever be like that again. Sure we were maced, civil rights violations were rampant. Cal Expo was just finished being constructed. Making the old State fairgrounds the poorest neighborhood in the city and us poorer people could afford to live there. Of course minimum wage was 190 an hour. But a pound of burger was only 89 to 90 cents a pound and a loaf of bread was only 50 to 60 cents. Ahhhhhh the good old days when loving living with poor people like myself and there was a place called the Rib shack. Half a chicken all cooked up and ready to take home and eat right away. Ribs were 1.60 a pound cooked and ready to go. Half rack was just perfect for a one man dinner with rice or baked beans was a very good inexpensive dish just add some veggies and you had a full meal. Never in my wildest dreams is life ever gonna be like this ever again. A little added bonus to getting older.

I can remember Shapes of Things, 1966, I was 15 years old. Jeff Beck playing on his knees. The Yardbirds were on the Lloyd Thaxton Show, if you are old enough to remember that show, they played Shapes of Things and after the song Lloyd asked Jeff, what was that sound at the end. Jeff said, "that was feedback Lloyd"! R.I.P.

I don't know how many times I saw this video. Jeff has the most beautifully played melody line like no-one can match, then Eric just burns the stage within a few seconds. It's like rocket-combustion. More than once my yaw dropped at this moment! It's the maximal tension that gives me shivers!!! Then Doyle totally applies a different style and all three make me hit 'repeat' again all the freaking time. It's really the sum of all three KINGS.
