Adam, before I bought my gen3 veteran sherman late last summer, I did my research, I looked at the crash n burn aspects of the euc/pev world before I looked at the positives, the battery quality has come a long way in 6 yrs.. I would never charge my wheel overnight of course while I am sleeping.

@@AdamU1016 that sounds funny. Actually, 0% battery in wheellog or eucworld, is not real 0%. Manufacturers made a big enough margin for safety, and the real charge is 10-30%. That's why you can still ride when programs show 0% while standing still. I often ride to "zero" kingsong 18xl, making 80-100km trips without charging, and everything is ok.

@@ZorgKirill - You run the risk of a cutout by riding your wheel at low charge. Should you need to accelerate quickly to avoid an accident your wheel could cut out. I top off before I ride if I am able to. In addition, if you are always draining your battery to always low level as I mentioned in the video, the wires and hence internal temperature can get hotter since more current would be needed to power your wheel. When your wheel is at low voltage due to low charge, your current would have to increase to power your wheel. More current can heat the wires, mosfets and internal shell temperature and hence affecting battery health.

@@AdamU1016 on low voltages gotways/begodes tilt pedals on maneuvers, even with turned off pedal tilts. I have 16k km experience on Gotway MSP, riding fast and on low voltage often, and had no cutouts. As for the heat and battery temperature on low voltage, it doesn't work in such way. I've spent 2 hard winters with lots of snow and temperatures like -20C and less, riding as usual as in summer, and on low voltages battery freezes faster, not heats up. If at summer I can ride slow on 20-10% charge for a dozen km , in winter the distance become twice as less, if not even smaller, because battery freezes quicker and voltage drops faster. When i get inside warm room, battery % and voltage rises up, because it heats up by warm air inside the room.

@@phamster18 - You really have a deep appreciation then in what goes on in making a PEV function properly. I think some EUC companies pay attention to details more than others. Despite that, even the most well thought out plan and QC can go awry. The huge explosion with the S20 in NYC was horrifying. It took KingSong over a year to finally come out with a demo wheel. The design and specs were incredible. Unfortunately, the explosion was a big embarrassment for KingSong and now they are going to have to go back to the drawing board and see what went wrong. KS went from 84V to 126V wheel and certainly must have overlooked key aspects that needed to be adjusted. I look forward to see what the seems like rushed wheel Master by Begode will be. To Begode’s credit, they have had much experience with fast, powerful 100V wheels. To go from 100V to 136v is not much of a leap. @mikeh6286
@mikeh6286 2 жыл бұрын
I think that on two wheeled vehicles you can install conservative fuses in multiple locations. Worst case is you blow a fuse. In EUCs a rider would fall if power is cut, and to reduce the amount of failure modes, the complexity is reduced to a minimum. What if you got injured going over a speedbump and had a cutout because the fuse blew. Wouldn't you rather take the chance that the wheel could handle it? That's basically the dilemma.

@AdamU1016 2 жыл бұрын
Usually it’s the last 5 percent of the charging that takes awhile to complete. It’s because that’s when cell balancing begins. Having cells not balanced can lead to eventual thermal runaway. The cell balancing finishes about 1-2 hours after the charging light turns green.
@allemander

@@AdamU1016 So, you’re saying I should definitely charge my scooter to 100% (how often/every time?) and leave it plugged in for an additional hour to two hours after the charger light turns green, in order to balance the cells? Am I understanding you correctly? I don’t ride or charge the scooter everyday. Sometimes, it sits idle for a week or up to ten days at a time, in between road rides (no off-road use). I’ve never ridden to below 10% battery remaining. I don’t ride in wet conditions. The scooter is only 2 months old with less than 300 miles total and it has never been crashed or damaged (it did fall-over once while parked and scuffed the end of the left side handgrip on concrete when it began slowly rolling forward, then the kickstand folded). It weighs approximately 120 lbs. I always use both factory chargers simultaneously. I’ve never a need to rapid-charge my scooter and I do not own a higher capacity charger than the ones supplied with it. Thank you for any further clarification you’re willing to offer. 🙏🏼✌🏼
@AdamU1016
@AdamU1016 2 жыл бұрын
@@allemander I agree with above. Nothing wrong with charging to 100% before a ride. Make sure you charge for an extra hour or 2 after the light turns green for complete cell balancing. Never store your scooter at 100% charge. If you have to store for months, store at 50-60% charge. Battery will have small discharges when stored and that is fine. You never want the charge to go down to 0%. Since you have a scooter and not an EUC, a power cutout is not that bad when you try to demand more from the motor when the charge is low. You will just coast instead of faceplant. It is best to charge your scooter just before you ride or the night before. Never charge unattended of course. You should top off your battery whenever you go riding so that you won’t have to worry about a low charge on your rides. You don’t always have to balance completely your battery if you can’t but having it topped off is good.

This is great if it’s right but why aren’t the manufacturers taking care of these issues? As a rider I would rather pay more, much more even for the peace of mind that my wheel won’t cause a fire... You are right. EWheels and Alien Rides are taking extra measures in battery safety. Begode is too slow to realize that their firmware needs to address the issue of drawing too much current from their batteries. Begode needs to shape up or lose loyal customers. What can we do? Don’t over exert your wheel. I tend to ride about 10 mph below the cutoff speed. Don’t over-torque. Check your battery every 500 miles. Check for any swelling of the batteries. Check the wires. Make sure the inside of the wheel is free of mud as it can impede ventilation. Don’t charge and then leave the wheel unattended. Set a timer. My next wheel is going to have the Litech current and over temp protections in place. In addition, the bigger the batteries in the 3-4 pack configurations the less chance of over discharging the battery and hence less chance of thermal runaway. Have a safe ride!

I'm just wondering if there is a way to shut down a fire within a few seconds of it starting, on smaller vehicles like the EUC. On larger vehicles like a car it would be necessary to build them in to the vehicle, but small vehicles they could carry a device. Or alternatively perhaps it's about time the new tech batteries came on the market to avoid this kind of thing.

@@AdamU1016 Keep in mind that the approximate discharge time for 10 to 20 pounds of dry chemical ranges from 10 to 25 seconds. Yes, the biggest fire extinguisher only lasted that long during usage. You also can't extinguish EUC fire when the cells are exploding. So, you have to wait for the exploding part to die down. To answer OP, one* of the ways to kill the fire in secs is to take out the oxygen surrounding the fire source. Ok. not the only way, after you can engulf the flame with water or an extinguisher during phase 2 of EUC's fire.

@@AdamU1016 perhaps that is something these fire extinguisher makers could come up with, a small company extinguisher for picking into small gaps to try and limit the damage. @@AdamU1016 From observation, there are two phases when it comes to EUC fire. Phase 1, when gas leaks out off the cell, as soon as there is a spark, we would see a violent explosion. In case of S20, it took 3 secs from gas leaking out of the cell to the explosion. Other EUC fires, from leaking gases> explosions too only took a few secs. So, during phase 1, its impossible to extinguish the explosions with fire extinguisher. After ruptured cells' gases are gone, you enter phase 2. During this phase fire are mostly from the burning plastic shell/tire. During phase 2, you can extinguish the fire with fire extinguisher or spraying water from a hose. @AdamU1016
@AdamU1016 2 жыл бұрын
InMotion like KingSong have in their firmware a means to limit the motor from demanding more than what the batteries can provide. Begode in their infinite wisdom wants the rider to have the speed, power and performance in their wheels so they never really limited how much the motor can demand from the batteries. Regarding battery safety, I always make sure I am nearby when I charge my wheel. Any early sign of loud pop and crackle, smoke or smell I make sure to unplug the wheel quickly and take the wheel outside as soon as possible. I always have a fire extinguisher nearby too. There is a Firesak available for sale online too that could help contain such a fire too if you cannot take your wheel out quickly enough. Some also use a huge metal container such as a gun safe or metal receptacle or metal trash can to store their wheels.

you should charge it to 100% once in several trips, to balance batteries. Or some time later, it will damage one of the cells.
@AdamU1016
@AdamU1016 2 жыл бұрын
Cell balancing occurs in the last 5% of the charge. I usually charge fully to green and then add about 2 more hours charging after that. Charging to only 85% does not result in balancing. You might have some critical low cells that can go bad without balancing.

@AdamU1016
@AdamU1016 2 жыл бұрын
I am quite careful with my Nikola 100V wheel. I don’t stress it out. My usual cruising speed is 20-25 mph. The max speed I ever attained was 35 mph and that was only a brief moment. I do charge my wheel in my house and when I do I am nearby and within viewing site of the wheel. Never charge overnight or charge and then leave the house. I also set a timer so I know when to disconnect from the wheel as well as unplug. If you are really concerned, open up the shell and check the battery packs. Check every 500 miles. Check if the packs are swollen. The most common times for the batteries to catch fire is when charging or when it is ridden. Is your Nikola one of the wheels shipped by EWheels from Dec 2019 to April 16, 2020?
@ZorgKirill
@ZorgKirill 2 жыл бұрын
nothing will save it xD Just watch the voltage after every full charging, it has to be 100.8V. And if during charging, the charger suddenly shuts down and shows green leds, earlier than usually (and with voltage lower that 100.8V) , it's time to repair batteries.

It depends on what kind of rider you are. Are you an aggressive or a mellow rider? I can be aggressive with my wheel when I ride so to prevent a power cutout I fully charge my wheel when it is less than 85% with my Nikola 100V. If you are just going for a mellow ride and it is short distance (less than 10 miles) and your wheel has greater then 90% then you don’t have to. I know KS tends to throttle their wheel at I think 80%. If you are a fast and relatively aggressive rider, then just charge to 100% just before you start your ride.

You should be fine. Having the Litech Molicel is extra reassurance. Just don’t overtorque or do extreme speeds. I weigh 195 lbs and have gone no faster than 35 mph which is fast enough for me. I doubt you will be going that fast anyway since this is your first wheel. Cutoff speed is about 45 mph. Don’t leave your wheel in the trunk during the hot summer months. Be nearby when you charge your wheel. Charge on the day of the ride or the day before. When your battery is fully charged don’t go downhill as the battery regeneration can cause a cutoff. It’s just basically the tech of lithium ion batteries which have the inherent thermal runaway capability no matter which brand out there. There are so many variables involved in the production of the batteries. For one specific EUC to catch fire that one specific pack might have had its own specific production deficiencies that caused the runaway. The other EUCs of that batch might have had no other similar battery issues. Unfortunately, it’s like a game of Russian roulette. I waited a whole year and a half when the Nikola came out and after several revisions and improvements I finally bought mine. I just don’t buy first or second batch wheels anymore.
