Wow why does this only have 3k views? Good work guys. Incredibly informative! It should have been noted that the primary reason that this happened now, and not earlier was because Rome never had a shortage of labor thanks to slavery, and they never had a shortage of slaves until it was too late for the Empire. The secondary reason was that the British Empire, along with the Portuguese and the Dutch found Guano all over South America. The copious amounts of bird/bat poop found in these islands was able to provide them with the Fertilizer to feed Europe and the colonies until they conquered Indonesia and the American South(Which ironically enough had slaves again, and thus didn't bother with innovation until the Civil War freed 4 Million slaves, causing further shortages of labor)

There was no large scale guano imports into Britain in the 18th century. Guano has nothing to do with the innovations in agriculture that occurred in the half decade from 1700.

Britain indeed imported massive quantities of guano, primarily from Peru, during the 19th century, which played a crucial role in agricultural development rather than directly supporting the Industrial Revolution.

And that's the irony of technological innovation. It brings short term pain for long term gain. It fires many peasants and the land owners get more control of their property, sounds horrible and evil to the uneducated peasants, but the bonus is more food for everyone and better jobs and quality of life.

Not all technology is necessary or good for you. Sometimes the cons outweigh the pros and you don’t know until it’s too late. Where we are at in society today, this idea of technological progressivism is killing us. We need to get back to living like humans used to for millennia.

Britain from 1800 to 1900. 20,000 Waterwheels declined in number. Windmills declined in number. The Englishman Thomas Newcomen's 1,500 Atmospheric Pumps disappeared. The Scotsman James Watt's 500 Steam Engines increased in number to 10,000,000 !!! This WAS the one and only Industrial Revolution. For every single Waterwheel in 1800 we now had 500 Steam Engines in 1900 !!! In the space of one human's lifetime the whole country's source of available Power increased by 500 times !!! And it was all due to only one Invention. James Watt's Invention of the world's first PRACTICAL Steam Powered Engine. All those other Inventions and so called " Industrial Revolutions " ( they're just there to muddy the water's ), were the natural advancement of science and technology, which has been ongoing since we started to use fire. So, a million more Factories for a start, then Steamships and Locomotives etc.etc. The world leapt forward in Technology and Production capacity.

The industrial revolution is generally thought to have started in the second half of the 18th century. 1760 is often the somewhat arbitrary date picked by historians. Watt' s steam engines were not the main source of power in factories until 1830. Up to that date water power was more important. So the industrial revolution was not the result of Watt's high pressure steam engines rather they were built because of the increases demand created by the factory system and by the increase demand for coal. Industrialisation spurred innovation one such innovation was the Boulton and Watt engine.

The Industrial Revolution was the Invention of a new engine. Before the Industrial Revolution all we had for Power were Waterwheels that reached a max. of 20,000 by the year 1800, due to their need for flowing rivers of water. By 1900 we had 10,000,000 James Watt type Steam Powered Engines providing Power for the country. A 500 times increase in Power Output for the whole country. 500 Steam Engines for every SINGLE Waterwheel. Of course, it took time to produce all these engines. 500 in 1800 to 10,000,000 in 1900. It was a massive change. Definitely an Industrial Revolution. And all it needed was Steam Power.

@user-ey6oi4xw8r No. The industrial revolution started with the factory system. The form of power for those factories was less important than the fact that factories automated the production process. Watt's steam engines only started to become important to the production process in the nineteenth century a full fifty years after the massive waterpowered textile mills were constructed in places like Cromford, Derby and Oldham.

With 20,000 Waterwheels you can only have 20,000 Factories. With 10,000,000 Steam Engines you can have 10,000,000 Factories. 500 times more. We've had Factories since the Stone-age.

@@Walter-w9v "We have had factories since the stone age" Not really. The nearest you would get to a factory in the stone age might be a quarry. Until the 18th century products like textiles and pottery were made by weavers and potters at home. Iron was made using charcoal for fuel in the open by artisan workers. Occasionally workers might be concentrated in one place but the method of production remained similar to workers operating in their homes. The first automated factories date from the 18th century. The were powered by water. The industrial revolution started without Watt's engine. The development of steam power was a consequence of industrialization, it was not it's cause.

We only needed one Invention for an Industrial Revolution, James Watt's Steam Powered Steam Engine. And don't count Thomas Newcomen's Atmospherically Powered "" steam engine""? That was a 70 years long Dead-end.

I haven’t watched yet but the title is completely nonsensical. The agrarians did not CAUSE the Industrial Revolution, the Industrial Revolution was taking place, which CAUSED agrarians to revolt. The title suggests something that in fact did not happen.
