CAV injection pump trouble shooting

I recommend you to ensure that the cam ring is in the right way, putting it in backwards could result in the problems you’re having. You also still need to pull the injectors out and replace the nozzles and set the pressure. There’s also supposed to be a little spring on the plunger holding the bigger spring to the weight basket plate inside the injection pump.

Hi there, Thank you for your comment. Much appreciated. I checked that the cam ring is in the pump the correct way. I pulled the injectors and cleaned the nozzles. All look pretty good to me. I put that all together and bled air out of the system. Cranked over a few times to bleed up to injector pipes. Then pull started it until good smoke appeared. It started up and ram on all 3 cylinders. Burned clean and ran smoothly. Only problem I have is the engine only runs in idle. Even with the throttle leaver in full throttle position. Only idle. Must be something in the pump. Any comments to help with that are much appreciated. Thank you

Look at the pump head and rotor.. That's where the problem is

how do you guys know this stuf? i need to take one apart on case 580 backhoe , im not sure about it

read manuals and watch youtube videos about it, find the manuals relevant to your pump and tractor before you start digging in and watch some videos too@@jimorgain63

check the head rotor..maybee the delivery valve...fit a new oversize..chek the governor for free travel

If you crack fittings at the injectors should fuel come out if its primed properly?

Hi Jim, It didn’t run before I took it apart so I had nothing to loose. Ended up taking it apart 3 times and then sent it to a diesel shop for testing. I hadn’t opened or touched the pistons inside the pump head. Turns out that those and the metering valve were really worn out. Diesel shop fixed the issues for me, tested it and sent it back to me. It’s running great now.
