That feeling you get when you sit down at a table that has been set. It can make the simplest meal feel more special. It was part of everyday life. Cloth table cloth and cloth napkins were even layered for the meal. Life was slower and meal time was the best part of the day. Best best memory of our table wear was Blue Willow China and Frankoma Pottery. Enjoyed your tableware collection. Thanks again for another great video❤😊

Hi Kevin, thanks for the memories! I could write a book, but I'll try not to! My Mom inherited the Harkerware Springtime dishes in the tan and white from my Dad's aunt. I would give my eye teeth for those dishes! She had the Moss Rose Bavarian China. Gran had the Royal Doulton Pomeroy and the Royal Albert Old Country Roses. I fell in love with the Franciscan Desert Rose and Gran gifted me a generous starter when I married which my Mother in law add to over the years right down to the glassware! My Mother in law still had her wedding dishes which were the Hollywood Ware Orange Blossom which are beautiful! I stopped collecting the Desert Rose after Wedgewood took over as the quality went downhill. I had a job running a bridal registry in the late 80's early 90's. Setting the tables and playing with all the dishes was a blast! The older I get the more I appreciate the old things! Again, thank you Kevin!

Dear Keven; I have collected dishes forever and the Blue Ridge is a favorite . The company employed local ladies in E Tennessee to paint them and when you collect enough of them you can tell the different painters from their styles. Homer Laughlin has been a collecting passion with me for 50 years but I'm just a dish nut like my grandmother and aunts before me. The Japanese pieces were nicely done and some Mikasa pieces are becoming collectable for their interesting graphics and their well made . Great show ! P.S. The paper shelf liners and boarders add the perfect touch to the Calvecade kitchen 😊

Love your series on dinnerware. Been slowly getting rid of my collections. I remember my mother‘s Malmac. The turquoise one you had was our every day dishes when we were little in the early 60s. Believe it or not she had turquoise appliances. She had Franciscan desert Rose that she got as a wedding gift that she hated. Never used it. I thought it was pretty. Because of downsizing, i’ve had to let go of all my favorite things. Although I wish I could give away my grandmother silver plate flatware. Nobody wants it. I guess I will have to close my eyes and donate it to Salvation Army. Love your work and thank you!

You're speaking to my heart here and in part 1. I love china and patterned dishes! I have way too much (according to my husband), but we use our dishes every day. And no, we don't have a dishwasher, at least not of the mechanical type. We wash everything by hand. It's really no big deal, and I like running my hands over the dishes to make sure they're clean. You're so right about being able to buy dishes/china for little or nothing. I find that odd given the number of younger folks who are so concerned about the welfare of the planet and leaving a light "footprint" upon it. You'd think using reusable dishes rather than paper or plastic would be right up their alley. Thank you so much for sharing your collections. Feel free to share other sets any time the mood strikes.
@cavalcadeoffood Жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy! Glad to meet a kindred spirit when it comes to china and dishware! Like you, I don't mind handwashing dishes. Over the years I got a pretty good system where I can do it without using a lot of excess water. You're right about all these efforts to reuse, recycle, etc. You would think using pottery and just cleaning them each time would have an appeal over going through thousands of paper/plastic/foam plates, but it's all about convenience now. I'll do more in the future! Glad you enjoy the videos!

Kevin you showed lots of fun dishwear! So many memories of these vintage dishes. And you presented Franciscan Apple, my wedding dishes 😍. Apple was manufactured for so many years, that it's a great set to find all the accessories and serving pieces. They had great stories and after the war they both became elementary teachers. (BTW I am in love with the Sculpted Grape. Gorgeous!)

Kevin, it was nice to be recognized! Yes I eat off Blue Ridge every day and it's totally dishwasher safe, but I don't use the heated drying. It does craze sometimes and it's not oven safe. That Whirligig pattern is on the Piecrust shape and the Ridge Daisy is on the Colonial shape. As someone mentioned earlier, it was made in Erwin. TN up until 1957. The amber Depression glass is Patrician pattern, sometimes called Spoke and not Madrid. My grandmother had both patterns and both were made by Federal. Madrid plates are more square. Thanks for part 2. I look forward to more. Maybe something on the accessory pieces like creamers and sugars and vegetable bowls and such? One pattern I remember from childhood is Currier and Ives by Royal China.
@cavalcadeoffood Жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan - turns out I have Madrid as well as Spoke. When I was putting them away I realized that some of the plates were a different shape, but same color. The two sets were all mixed together. I also found another set of Blue Ridge - not sure what it's called but it has fruit on it. Nice pattern. I think I did a creamer/sugar episode some time ago. The Currier and Ives is a great pattern. I only have a couple of pieces. Actually, I should do a episode on platters. Thanks!

Hi! I just love glass and dishes! We had the melmack dishes when I was a kid, but when my mom got a dishwasher we went back to regular dishes because the melmack could not go in the microwave. Also I have the Madrid pattern depression glass, a whole set I have collected. What you have I believe is the Patrician pattern. It was made between 1933 til 1937 in pink, green, amber, and crystal. The book says it is also called Spoke. It was made by the Federal Glass Company too. Madrid is a rather square plate and bowl. Not the round design that you have. Thanks for the wonderful video!

The orange and blue geometric tablecloth is lovely. It was smart of manufacturers to continue patterns of open stock china because it allowed people to collect it over time. Mom would have the starter set and every year she'd add the serving bowls, platters and other accessories, fun. It was like a hobby. Well most of the coffee my family made back in the day you were glad the cups were small, they tended to be a bit stingy with the grounds to water ratio.

The restaurant ware will be interesting. Truly enjoy this series. Regarding dishes growing up. How about some children's play sets/miniatures or baby sets or those sandwich plates with matching tumbler that has a place to fit the cup on the plate. My husband's treasure is a Bunnykin Royal Doulton china set of a bowl, mug and plate from 1966. My recent find is a round platter and bowl made by a group of potters in New Brunswick called Galleon ware. They are a brownish yellow with cattail motif. I use them for chips n dip. I'm always on the look out for unusual dishware. May find the elusive blendo jug and glasses someday.

I loved the last 3 patterns the best. The Persian Garden, Sculptured Grape and Spring song were beautiful. I did like the unusual bowl with the pedestal but it wasn't as practical for storage, but still very pretty and interesting. My niece has a set of the Dogwood pattern of Franciscan which was her paternal great grandmother's. Melamine dishes are very popular again but they aren't microwave safe, but they come in some amazing and beautiful patterns. Do you have Desert Rose?
@cavalcadeoffood Жыл бұрын
Hi Susan - no, I never picked up Desert Rose, although I've seen a lot of it at sales over the years. Thanks!

@@cavalcadeoffood Believe hubbys grandmother left us:me two sets of it. Like the other set I mentioned I obtained for my hope chest from Woolworth, this is also in perfect condition. One day I have a dream of a extra large closet /room just for linens, and dining ware. A person can dream. Lol. Thanks for another great episode.

Have you heard of crinoline dishes? They are ruffled edges in pink.

Hmmm… The Colonial Village pattern looks like a “knock-off” of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village…
@cavalcadeoffood Жыл бұрын
It does have that Friendly Village look to it. I think that type of china was popular and so different makers made some version of it. Thanks!
