Hard for me to own any other breed. Lost my 1rst Cav to the symptoms of a prolonged heart murmur at 10+ years of age. Had to put him down as his episodic falls were increasing in frequency. Can still hear his crying as I would have to pick him up after falling. He had an innate sense it was time and he wanted to sleep on my bed the night before doing so. Took it harder than any previous loss in my life. He was the epitome of an Alpha Dog and regret not pursuing agility training with him. He would have excelled at it with a great teacher. I also own a female (will turn 9 in 3 months) in great health. She is the poster child for their nickname “The Love Sponge.” She prefers humans over other dogs. You could say she tolerates other dogs. :-) Mine loved to ride in the automobile and gladly so, as I did many long trips (10+ hours) with no issues. Ideally, if you can swing owning 2 at once, that lessens separation anxiety should you have to be away for an extended period. Glad I took and continue to take many pictures of candid moments. They are a blessing!

I have spina bifida and PTSD. Do these dogs require a lot of long walks?

They require moderate activity but will do what you want. If you can toss a ball and take them on a walk in a wheelchair, they will be happy to spend time with you.
