Hell's Smoke instructions: Place a small piece of the smoke paper on a non-flammable surface (they recommend a coin) Touch the edge of the smoke paper with a lit match and allow it to burn. The paper will leave an oily residue on the coin. Rub your thumb in the 'oil'. Now rub your thumb and index and middle finger together, smearing the oil across the tips of the three fingers. The next movement is done as if you were tossing something into the air. As you spread your fingers apart, it will create a small puff of smoke
@nigelgordon2 жыл бұрын
The Hell's Smoke is a very old trick that goes back years. The paper is the ignition material from boxes of safety matches. In the past we had to remove the ignition material from the boxes to do this. You place the ignition material phosphorous side down, that is the brown side, on a metal surface, then burn it. Tip-off the ashes and you will be left with a brown oil-like substance. If you get a bit of the oil on your finger tip then rub your finger and thumb together, you will get smoke. Very effective, I have been performing this effect in a bizarre magic act since 1965. That is before it was called bizarre magic. Incidentally, the oil is highly poisonous so wash your hands well after using it.
@alexmousley7213 Жыл бұрын
Indeed- as far as I know, it contains quite a bit of phosphorous- you definately don't want to get that in your mouth! I don't know if or how much gets absorbed through the skin, but, I guess it's unwise to do this too often.
@nigelgordon Жыл бұрын
@@alexmousley7213 I once performed it five times in an evening and felt unwell afterwards. Never had a problem when I was using it just once every couple of weeks.
@alexmousley7213 Жыл бұрын
@@nigelgordon I' steer clear, personaly, a quick google of the hazards of phosphorous suggest caution- it may be cummulative. Not sure if it would be possible to use a barrier between skin and the phosphorous oil?

I actually bought one of those Lubor's Lenses on amazon a couple years back. It's so much fun to see you get such a visceral reaction out of it. (My came with a pen with a twisted section in the middle which wasn't visible behind the lens.)

Not the ashes is used to put on your fingers, the remaining oil-like stuff give the smoke I often use a coin do burn the paper on and the oil remains on that coin. So you can rub the coin between your fingers and it starts smoking. Its a cool trick in the bar with tip or change money
@brovid2 жыл бұрын
You can make the Hell's Smoke gimmick yourself. Peel the striker off a book of matches (try to get mostly striker and less paper). It is essentially the same product. Burn that on a plate or coin and the residual oil will smoke when rubbed.
@mattnovak86925 жыл бұрын
The first product you wouldn’t believe the applications I’ve used it when I purchased them from a Paul Harris release called, ‘Lubors Lens’. I prepare a pen by heating the center with a lighter so I can twist it creating a secret twist in the center that the fingers conceal in performance. Now you can place the pen on spectator’s palm & conceal the twist in it by holding the lens over it length ways, then creat the illusion of the pen twisting by shifting the lens both ways multiple times & allowing the spectators to watch through the lens seeing the shifting & end by pulling it away to reveal the twist. There’s many applications..

Penn & Teller have a children's magic set. It's just the generic crap in all the sets you can buy but for $20 more. They do put in a DVD to show how the tricks are done and some magic that uses the DVD. It does look like the cheapest stuff ever. But they did a 20 minute show just using tricks from that kid's box. They cheated a bit with extra sponge balls to over exaggerate the trick. But it's just sponge balls. you can buy a pack of 100 for less than a cup of cffee.

The key gimmick would be great if the gimmick was better. As a performer though In a situation where you have it. You can do 1. Bobos switch or Jay sankeys shuttle pass and change a normal key for the gimmicked one keeping the normal key in classic. Then after the effect turn it upside down showing it truly stuck. Immediately break the bottle and hand the normal key back to be examined. (Using another shuttle or bobos switch) It could deft work

As far as the price point. They are Chinese mad and made significantly cheaper then a real reel levitation device. But I’m sure you’ll realize that at some point. When they compare prices and how much cheaper it is. They are comparing MSRP for a similar item (of much better quality) not that specific item.

The clear sheet is available now to public but originally was used to develop invisible tech : it bends light to make objects behind it just about vanish. With a large enough sheet you can do a pretty good job of hiding yourself. Thank the Camo design company working on invisible tech for this. Because they decided this discovery was too good to just use in the military

It's a type of fresnel lens, in magic often called a "Lubor's Lens", after Lubor Fiedler who filed a patent for it's use in magic in 2001. It was released as a marketed effect under the name "Reality Twister". I'm not sure when this type of lens was first created but I think the military stuff was much later.

Amazing Jonathan uses. Look capsules and so do some other magicians. So it’s not a far stretch. Plus to be fair wish adheres to the same advertising algorithm as any other large company. It goes by search content 😂 was it around Halloween? Just curious. Personally as a hobbyist magician since 4 (now 36) I myself almost fell down this rabbit hole but decided to watch videos (like this one first) and before I get critiqued for my opinion a hobbyist doesn’t mean I’m not professional it just means it isn’t my chosen profession. You have hells smoke wrong. Hells smoke is even worse then the cheap ones I thought it was (paste) BUT, it uses a common science principle used sometimes in magic to produce smoke. If you burn the abrasive part of a box box and put the ashes on your hands and rub your hands together it makes a small amount of smoke. All that paper is just striking paper 😂 you rub your fingers together and smoke is produced. It is not to be burned in your hand to produce smoke 💨 😂 again the instructions were horrible but you were way off. 1. Burn the paper. 2. Put thumb and pointer in ashes (it will be like an oil I guess but tbh it’s not) 3. Run fingers together and produce smoke Naturally you would have to set this up first.
