After many years of training, I finally made it! I broke the world record for the longest solo cave dive swimming, covering 8,592mt/28,190ft!
The record took place on the 3rd of May 2023 in the Sac Actun cave system, Nohoch Nah Chich section. The total distance of 28,190ft is the sum of penetration and exit distances.
There are three things that I wanna say here, to give context to what I achieved:
1-Even if this was a solo dive, where I took care of all aspects of my operation without a teammate, the support of my friends and safety divers has been critical. Even before the dive, their enthusiasm kept me going when I had doubts about this project. I could have not done it without them. This has been a team effort... because nobody can achieve anything alone!
I want to thank everyone who helped me, so check the credits!!!
2-I don't believe I am better than any other technical diver and professional in my field, just because I was swimming for a long distance! I know a lot of divers in my area, including the ones who helped me, who could do the same dive I did... I am just the one who decided to do it.
I didn't wanna be better than others, I wanted to better myself, that's it!
3-The previous record belongs to Sheck Exley, who performed a penetration of 10,444ft/3,183mt in Chips Hole, Florida, in 1989. When I came across this information, I felt compelled to do my best as a cave diver, because I always felt inspired by his actions and his discipline.
When I started to work on multistage diving, I didn't even wanna set a record... I was just trying to extend my limits as much as possible with open circuit!
After some years of long dives, I realized that I could swim efficiently for more that what he did back in 1989, and I decide to convert my experiments with multistage into an attempt to break his record. My understanding of his dive is that he wasn't even trying to set a record, he was just exploring... and happened to set the longest distance swimming by himself! His dive profile included a long decompression and the conditions where much more difficult than where I did my record, especially the flow.
On the other hand, I planned my dive specifically to set record, under the best environmental conditions and as shallow as possible, with support divers and videographers to collect the data for the validation. I did this same dive many times before... but there was nobody there to witness what I did, so I had to do it again with all the necessary support.
Sheck Exley was a badass diver who did incredible things all his life... I am not better than him, I just put myself in the conditions to swim longer than what he did once, and he could have done the same dive I did here! But honestly...I am not sure I could do the same dive he did in Chips Hole in 1989!
If you read everything, thank you for your time!
Now some important mentions...
I wanna thank you the director and videographer Javier Sanroman for his work and dedication to this project. This is the link for his channel:

I wanna share with you also the channel of my friend and underwater videographer Joram Mennes, who did and incredible work:

Cool to see. I wish we had some more diving shots. I did the Nonoch to Blue Abyss dive, but that was with a scooter. Long way to swim!

Thank you! Why? Watch the video about the speech I have at DEMA... maybe you find it interesting... It was an inner challenge, pushing my limits, feeling alive. It doesn't have to make sense why I do it, it's an emotional decision... it has only to make sense HOW I do it! Thank you again!

How is it solo if you have teams supporting your entire dive?
@Ghost-Divers
@Ghost-Divers 7 ай бұрын
I had no teammate. The support divers had their own dive plan and navigation. Most of the dive there were no divers with me, they followed me just up to some checkpoints like you see in the video. To validate a record, you need other people... even for a solo dive!

I am not a diver at all. Question. Can you tell which way is up or down by which way the bubbles are going, providing you have light and can see the bubbles? I made this comment before the end of the video. Just to tell everyone a bit of my background....Massive fear of water, fear of drowning and extremely claustrophobic. When they were in the water I was gripping the arms of the chair and holding my breath. HA!

Water doesn't try to kill you. You are afraid of not being able to handle a situation... if you want to overcome it, find a swimming instructor and train in a shallow pool... obtain the tools to handle the situation you fear! It can change your life for the better! I was afraid of darkness and tight spaces, but then I realized I was just afraid of my reaction. I didn't trust myself. I was right to not trust myself because I didn't have the mindset or the knowledge to handle myself. I wanted to change that and I did, with help... I had to let people in... best choice ever! Yes, you can feel where is up and down... it can be confusing for a beginner, but it's possible also in the darkness... you feel it in your guts.

Fair question! I had no teammate and the support divers where not present all the time, just in strategic locations. It's shown in the video. The reason why I had safety/support divers is because we needed to collect the data about my dive to validate the result... videos, cartography, my computers logs, and eye witnesses. I did this dive by myself before... but nobody was there to prove it! In every diving competition or record attempt there are safety divers and evaluators.

Because of two reasons: 1- I wanted to push the limits of open circuit... it's a physical and logistic challenge! 2- I don't have a rebreather... eheheheh!
