Yeah. There are a lot of channels that seem to clickbait the horrible nature, but here it's just presented with context and gradually, allowing the audience to form an opinion before talking us through it's conclusion. Somethings keeping things ambiguous enough so people approaching the events for the first time aren't entirely sure what's going, all without needless embellishment. We are adults after all, we should know what is/isn't horrible. It's both relaxing and, despite the subject matter, not at all morbid. Just educational.

My dad has a very similar story. He was ice diving when his tether got unhooked. He swam around for a bit before realising he was no longer connected and had no idea where the hole they had entered from was. He did however know where the shore was and being late winter thought maybe he could break through the ice as it got thinner. After struggling for some time and failing to break through he stopped, wrote a note his wife (I wasn’t born yet), and pulled out his knife. He had decided that it would be faster to cut his throat and bleed out than to drown. Before he did he decided to try one last time, took all of his gear off, burrowed his way to as shallow as he could possibly get, got his knees underneath him and started pushing and finally broke through. It would not surprise me at all that somebody else came to same conclusion as my dad and decided if the couldn’t get out they’d end it themselves.

For me, the nastiest cave diving death was Peter Verhulsel. He got lost cave diving and was found dead six weeks later in an unknown, unexplored area of the cave. He'd survived three weeks in the dark on a lump of rock, and had starved to death. He even wrote a farewell note in some sand/grit near his body. Diving is very safe, if you do what you trained for and keep very basic rules. -He can get gas narcosis at that dept, he drank alcohol before, so it increase the chance of gas narcosis. He mentioned that hes not an experienced diver so i guess than hes not cave certified, and he also dont have the certification for the dept he dived. -He used a single silinder for a deep dive. -He dived an unfamiliar place. These things add up and lead to a fathal dead.

My #1 Golden rule of diving: Don't go diving.
@gnarthdarkanen74642 жыл бұрын
For ANYONE... Just don't dive past your certifications. This isn't difficult, and WILL keep you relatively safe. Diving isn't a "wild west sport" anymore. We have tons of good tech' and solid, reliable equipment to diminish risk to a vanishing rarity... BUT it comes with rules and procedures and there is NO room for forgiveness. If that means you just don't put the tanks on for a class, then, yes... Don't ever dive. If you want to go on an adventure and see something or do something new, GET CERTIFIED FIRST. Take the courses, buy the equipment you need, LEARN for realzies how to do it. Then dive within your certifications. They have the classes and certifications all the way out through technical deep diving on Trimix instead of air. Diving on rebreathers INCLUDING rebreathers with trimix... Hard cover diving for shipwrecks and caverns... AND as far as deep cave exploration, where YOU are the first ever to go into a cave, and YOU are ultimately responsible for laying lines and arrows for navigation... Once you've found your "level of adventure" you always remember "Plan your dive, and Dive your PLAN." as they say... AND by diving WITHIN your knowledge, skills, and certifications/courses, you just won't put yourself into more danger than you're ready to bargain for. MK was hopelessly untrained and inexperienced. He had NO BUSINESS diving any cave, let alone one as supposedly "advanced" as the Poganica Bay Cave... It's as simple as that. ;o)

I’m surprised all these stories are about incidents in caves, there must be a great deal of people who have had problems inside shipwrecks as well. Wrecks have similar silty conditions inside and when the wreck is lying on its side the walls become the floor and the staircases go sideways so it’s really disorientating. There are often cables hanging down and sharp bits of rusty metal to entangle and cut you. Some of my most scary diving moments involve wrecks

Hey Sean, I have been binge watching your videos for maybe a week now, I have always been a fan of horror movies and believe that’s why I can tolerate the emotion behind these stories, but overall they make me thank god that I’m safe and on land right now, of course these people went to these dangerous places on their own accord, most people don’t expect to never surface again, one of my favorite videos was the video about the divers in Antarctica diving under B-15 and made me realize just how vulnerable we are to the elements and how all three of those divers survived despite the unforgiving currents and melting ice, keep up the good work with these vids, I can totally see you expanding your channel and reaching more people and making them feel more grateful for the air they breath here on the surface.

idk why/how anyone would see that situation as a murder, definitely makes most sense that the guy was afraid of drowning and wanted a quicker way out

@Scary Interesting... Is there any underwater video footage showing what the shallow gallery entrance (when ascending from the deep gallery) and exit funnel look like? I'm not a diver. I just want to get a sense for how easy it can be to mistake the two.

Just a suggestion: since the labyrinth of tunnels plays a central role in all this, is there no map showing a horizontal view of that?
@jasonjones74618 ай бұрын
I've seen some 3d maps of caves. Im used to playing games like the Metroid Prime Trilogy and even I'm baffled by how twisty and complex they are. I use that as comparison because of how much the 3d cave maps resemble the in game maps. Esp some areas in Prime 1 where you are exploring underwater sections, you can't see anything and the map feels useless. I can't imagine doing that irl
@davesmith56568 ай бұрын
@@jasonjones7461 ---- Not to negate you, that some cave are very complex, but some videos have shown maps, like one of some Mexican sink hole complex incident. Divers took a wrong turn and ran out of air. It looked like a one-level cave, or a "ranch house style cave" (joke). There was a recent video showing a kind of "double 'U' shape" mostly vertical formation, that made it clear how divers got stuck at the bottom of a "U".

Hey Sean. I really enjoyyour videos. Could you please do 2 or 3 per week? Im joking, since im sure it takes much time to do just one given its professional appearance. In fact your show is well higher quality that many that are on TV produced by very large companies! I just cant get wnough of these and when i discovered this channel, i practically watched all of them in one week! Going through some tough times and this show takes my mind off things and cheers me up. Also you have an excellent voice in narrating. You remind me of a very popular searies in the 90s called The New Detectives, Case Studies in Forensic Technology. That show stopped suddenly because the narrator got sick and passed away. He also had a very perfect voice for narrating. Almost every show currently being aired the narrator just doesnt have such a great voice which is interupting while trying to listen. Yours is smooth and clear with just the right pauses and inflection! Thanks again, a huge fan, Marc K!

I heard this story before and doesn't matter how many times it's explained, it's painfully confusing and it's a maze of its own. Truly one of the weirdest unsolved mysteries because it has several explanations which are very possibly true, we just don't know which one is.
