For a game like Cave Story, it's aged incredibly well over the years. That's something not many games do very well...and besides, it's one of the great classics back then. If it ever got re-released on another console but with MORE content, then it'd be blown off the shelves.

You know what'd be awesome? Imagine Quote in Smash Bros. Curly Brace could be an alternate skin, kind of like what they did for Robin and Bowser Jr. They could also include some Cave Story stages.

*ALL OF MY MONEY* But seriously, this needs to happen. Cave Story is a very successful indie game. It's has ports for Wiiware, DSiware, the 3DS, and the scrapped ports for the GBA and DS. And that's just with Nintendo. There's ports for Xbox, PSP, several OSs. Fuck, it's got a port for the TI-84 graphing calculator. _A port of Cave Story on a fucking calculator._ If that doesn't tell you that is game is fucking popular, I don't know what will. I've been think about how Quote would play ever since the 3DS announcement. I imagine he'd be like Megaman, a ranged fighter with a versatile move-set. Like MM, his A would be a projectile, his Polar Star. But unlike MM, he can aim his in the four compass directions. All of his Specials would be his weapons from the game. And his FS could be Curly (or Quote if using the Curly alt) attacking while on his back. For ASs, the two best options would have to be Misery and Balrog. They would both work how they did in the game. Misery would shoot projectiles like those black spheres that shoot lighting and the red bats and summon large blocks to crush foes. Maybe one of her moves could be shooting that bubble she used to kidnap Toroko, sending captured foes flying upwards to their death. For Balrog, he would fly around the stage, charge at foes, grab and pummel them, and shoot rockets at them. But one could avoid all of this by riding on his head. Simple, but a perfect homage to the original. As for stages, I think that a transitioning stage would work best. There are so many memorable locations in Cave Story that this would be the best way to better represent the game. And each area would have a gimmick. For example, Mimiga Village would be a large open area. The various Mimigas would be walking around, coming in and out of houses. Attacking them causes them to run away. If this happens enough times, King comes out and start attacking with his Blade.

Though I think Quote should have access to the blade. If you've played Gang Garrison 2, the demake of Team Fortress 2, Quote and Curly are in it as secret characters. Their 2 weapons are the blade and bubbler. Also, for Smash, maybe they could do something where attacking the same enemy a lot levels up the current weapon used, kind of like in the game, and that taking damage levels it down.

SheosMan117 Yes. Also, the Polar Star should become the Spur and the Rocket Launcher becomes the Super Rocket Launcher during his FS. And Curly will use different weapons depending on your setup. Speaking of which, I've thought about what weapons should be which Special and here's my results. Netrual B: Machine Gun Fireball Bubbline/Bubbler Side B: Booster Pak v0,8 (charging attack) Booster Pak v2.0 (non-offensive recovery) Snake Down B: Rocket Launcher Blade Nemesis Up B: Booster Pak v0.8 Booster Pak v2.0 Machine Gun For the sake of balancing, ammo for some of these weapons will have to be cut down. Like 25 for the Machine Gun or 30 for the Bubbler. Reload time could stay the same but you only reload while on the ground. And for the RL, it takes a minute to reload one rocket.

This is very true! iirc he had friends playtest and give him feedback (as any game developer does), and there's several leftover, inaccessible entities in the freeware rom that would have done things like start the credits sequence or say "this is all there is for now", despite being in rooms far from the game's ending. Some even have dates with them, so it seems likely there were several beta builds for friends to test.

I hope we get a Wii U release I want this in HD so fucking bad. Not remastered, love the game the way it is. If graphics really need improvement for HD that's fine but allow an option for Remake or Original sprites in HD. Allow gameplay options for game on TV and gamepad for inventory/map features, an option to do this vice versa as well and one more to allow projection of the game on both TV and Gamepad. Whose with me cause after selling my 3DS and getting a Wii U. I really need this game again its the best Indie I have ever played. This one dude makes Indie on everything else look like shit, especially since he was just doing what he loved and as a result the game came out beautifully. Need a crackpot team? Nope. One man is one army to Him. Either way, I hope this one man ports it to Wii U so I can live a more happier life.

it's very easy to forget the reason why indie games are more acclaimed than many A-list titles. In a game company, no matter how big, deadlines have to be met and compromises need to be made. Single creators like Pixel however get free reign to make whatever they are capable of, with no time limit (unless you're Toby Fox and decide to Kickstarter your game lol). Pixel himself spent 5 years working on Cave Story i believe.

When I was younger I got this game on my Wii. I stop playing it after a while. Then when watching 8 awesome angles of youtube I heard this tune. And I was like "where have I heard this from?" So then I looked it up and then played this. The Meomories. When I get enough money ill eventually get this game on my steam account. But holy cow the nostalgia.

@@MrMega1423 indeed, 90% of the music of undertale its just variations of other songs, not original, plus took too much inspiration from 2 games, cave story and earthbound, its ok if people want to say that undertale is a good game since they havent played cave story yet... And earthbound (i only played mother 3)
