11. there are two hearts on the third room, they respawn when you go in and out the room, use that to get full heath after the hallway (that place is a pain). 12. save the heart jar, use it on ballos (best case is on the 2-3 phase) 13. there are statues that will give you heath before the balos fight, USE THEM. will drop +5 heath sometimes, very usefull, that way you dont have to use the heart jar on the boss 14. spam jetpack insted of holding it, it will make your fuel last longer.

The "Last Cave (hidden)" is like training to see how well you can use that booster. The first jump in hell is like a test to see if you really learned anything. Can't rely on getting lucky anymore. Either you live or you die.

It's not that difficult, after a dozen tries or so you can easily get the hang of it and pass it with no damage. Once I actually did it so well I had too much booster left I landed on the spike beyond the edge lol.

Few games have I ever known where you are explicitly told "Welcome to Hell !". Not because you actually are in Hell, mind you : this is just a section of the island between the Balcony, the Plantation and the Last Cave, where Ballos happens to be sealed. Religious hell has nothing to do with that. You're told that purely because of this level's enraging difficulty.

And all throughout we are told a completely separate story that really serves to depict this place as a prison that no one should discover.

I love this level so much. It was always a challenging stage, 60fps or 50fps, but it never felt unfair. Once you memorize everything, you can just blaze through the stage without a care in the world. And the feeling of just beating the stage feels insurmountable. Seeing the island satisfyingly stop falling is something I'll never get sick of.

I love this level so much. The difficulty mixed with the amazing controls of the game makes this soooo satisfying to beat in under five or six minutes. However, if you're gonna play this game, do NOT get the DSiWare version. The screen-crunch and 4:3 ratio makes the ceiling not visible to your line of sight, meaning the falling blocks can blind-side you plenty of times. All the other versions (not sure of the freeware PC version though) don't have that problem though.

I beat this whole area and Ballos with the machine gun.....it was hell. Do not play this area without the spur unless you truly want to experience hell. Heck I even played through the whole game without the rocket launcher up until this point! You see, if you open the chest in this area, the last upgrade pack will turn into the regular rocket launcher BUT WITH 100 MISSILES. Yeah I can personally say that I am one of few that beat this game in multiple ways.

Dude same! I would replay my copy of Cave Story 3D but intentionally make different choices just to see what interesting loadouts I could attempt this level with. I've beaten hell with machine gun, snake, I think I might of even done it with polar star. Granted 3D has significantly more life capsules, so take that with a grain of salt

I would argue that it doesn't make much of a difference whether you have the spur or machine gun for the sanctuary. One weapon allows auto-fire, the other to charge a beam. In most scenarios, both weapons aren't too good as they disallow using the nemesis of Curly and enemies swarm you from either side. The sword is actually better against most phases of Ballos and the Heavy Press wants pure damage per second. The spur and machine gun fail at it in this regard. The spur shines in the balcony gauntlet where it's more about hitting bosses as soon as they expose their weakness. I feel that most fights can also be done just as well using the machine gun and I rather exchange a better accessible mid-game (The Core without the extra mobility is pretty gruesome) than a slightly easier late game. In the end, it's all about preference and Cave Story does a good job making each choice viable and giving them niches.

0:46 - 1:10 I think this part is the real theme of Curly, the rest was what Curly was in the past or what she believed herself to be, so it seems scary (I don't really remember the explanation of what her goal was to island when she recovered her memories), now her theme changed, to a tone determined to do the right thing and save the island, or she remembered that she wasn't there to annihilate the mimigas, she was there to save that island! and nip the cycle of evil in the bud, because now she has opened her eyes to the right thing she was there to do, and was determined to do, with her partner Quote.

Technically it's Curly that opens the door to Hell. If you don't save her you can never enter and the Island falls which is the normal ending. Curly dies with the fall. So Hell is literally Curly's exclusive area.

I guess. But they never explained why you needed Curly to get to hell. The door just unlocks if you have the Iron Bond. Honestly I figured labyrinth fight would be better for Curly. You need her to get there too, and it fits her a lot more.

sm901ftw I think the reason the door is unlocked is because Curly forced it open. Perhaps she learned something when you were fighting the final boss and that's why she didn't go with you back at plantation so she stayed behind. In the normal ending playthrough, the door stays locked since nobody thought anything of the room at the time.

Honest to god, I get it. If you made it this far in the game, you've shown that you can handle anything, so naturally the game gives you the greatest challenge. To unlock Curly's story mode you need to get her panties then save the game. check the map when in the room with the puppy and the bed after you fight curly in sand zone.
