Honestly it's really not that bad to learn the fundamentals. Just turn on the checkpoint system and quicksaves/loads and run a few playthroughs without looking up something unless you are confused (like what a parasang is lol) Use these playthoughs with quicksaves and without permadeath to experiment. Figure out what you can and can't do, what different mutations/abilities do, what happens if you steal from that chest in the middle of joppa etc etc. Once you get comfortable/bored with that then try without the quicksaves and checkpoints. At this point it is all about different character builds, exploration and trying to complete the main story
@deputyswine5 ай бұрын
Oh and maybe try using a controller? I have only ever played on my steamdeck/controller. Using a m+kb for controls in the game is way to overwhelming for me and I find controller much more intuitive
@SitWithItBob5 ай бұрын
@@deputyswine I ended up jumping in after watching this. My fears of needing 20+ hours to learn were completely unfounded as the game is much more user-friendly than older roguelikes used to be. I do the same thing, they don't do demos or shareware anymore to give people a taste. Sseth has really turned alot of people onto some gems such as Qud and Starsector. When I'm doing good financially I have no problem actually buying the game to.l support further development, esp when the creators are constantly putting out new content. And these games are also proof that graphics are everything, Qud reminds me of game demos you would find on a Collage bbs back in the 90s. Some collage kids with free times and a dream simply to make a game telhey have always wanted.

I must be weird (likely mildly autistic) because I actually think that the original UI was better. Sadly, the original UI got wrecked during the transition to the new UI. Even if you disable the advanced UI options, what you get is only a shadow of what the original UI was. The world is pretty enough to be worth putting up with a bad UI, but I still think it's a shame.
