Cavy breed in focus - the Abyssinian guinea pig

This another breed in focus and this time we are looking at the Abyssinian guinea pig, this is a truly unique cavy with intricate patterns of rosettes and ridges, in this video we look at the layout of the rosettes and ridges, we examine the breed standard and the colours that the Abyssinian and be shown under.
Simon neesam takes us through some of his top abys and gives us a detailed description of what to look for in show quality Abyssinians. We also get to see baby Abyssinians and how they develop.

Hi. I don't keep pigs or have any interest in them - such nice animals, I thought. Your videos show me that they are also very interesting, there are many different, beautiful breeds and there are many breeders who develop these breeds. These guinea pigs aren’t for sale the breeders (not me) are experts in their breed and the cavies are kept immaculately and training well, Simon speaks of breed specific faults only, not in relation to the health of the Guinea pig. I support adoption 💯 and work with Avalon Guinea pig rescue here in the Uk ( you may have seen them on the Netflix movie keeper of the pigs). I will check out your rescue and see the good work you do also. 🥰

The Abyssinian have had a bad reputation in the past as being the naughty breed of guinea pig, but this is pure myth, I have handled 100’s of them without any major issues, but just like people you do get the odd one that is “moody” or grumpy.
