I make infused oil salves. To protect the integrity of the infused oil, I always melt the wax in a small pot, then let it sit to cool a little, then add the infused oil to the wax and immediately pour it into my sterilized jars. This way I’m not heating the oil for more than a few seconds.

If you can’t find cayenne with a high enough scoville score you can go to an Indian grocery store and buy extra hot chili powder. It usually ground up ghost chilies. Which is much hotter than cayenne which will make your salve even more potent.

Thanks much! I already had made a jar of coconut oil and a jar of castor oil that are being infused Will I be able to use the Castor oil to make salve or trow it away? Could you kindly elaborate of the consequences of using that caster oil with cayenne pepper (already being infused) to make salve? Also…Can I pour the salve mixture in small tin containers instead of glass jars without consequences?
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
Hi! You can still use the castor oil, but I would use a smaller portion of it in your salve. An example you could try would be 3/4 infused coconut oil to 1/4 castor infused oil...and you may need to increase the beeswax somewhat. Castor oil is so slick and "glossy," it's usually a smaller portion. Play around with this, and you'll find the right ratio that you like.

Hello Heidi! I made the cayenne infused oil and followed your instructions to a T. I even bought the same strength and brand you used!! I let it infuse for the longer period shaking every day! I put it on my neck and shoulders without mixing it with anything else ( I did a test on my inner arm first) I feel absolutely no warmth/heat whatsoever. I am quite baffled? Because I used so very much of the Cayenne powder in a 8 cup mason jar ( the larger ones) my questions are do you have any thoughts as to why no or very little warmth /heat ? I tested the cayenne in some food and the heat is DEFINITELY THERE!! I did strain the oil into a 4 cup mason jar. My second question is do you think it would be effective for me to add more cayenne pepper to the infiused oil and repeat the process? The infused oil did look beautiful, very dark and a rich color! Your thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you
@HeidiVillegas2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know why you wouldn't feel heat? But here are a few possibilities: 1) Your skin isn't very sensitive to the cayenne. We all react differently. 2) The herb quality might be in doubt....but if you felt heat when cooking, then it should be fine. I suggest trying it out for a few days.....you may be surprised! Also, yes, you can double infuse the oil with more cayenne too!

@HeidiVillegas2 жыл бұрын
Here's a link with the directions written out for you just below. But in the meantime, to infuse the cayenne in the olive oil, I roughly use 1/3 of a jar of powdered cayenne (60 to 90 h.u.) fully covered to within an inch of the top of the jar with olive oil. It comes out great every time. You'll need to shake or stir the infusion often so the powder doesn't compact, even with the fast method for best results. www.healingharvesthomestead.com/home/2017/8/18/how-to-make-a-pain-relief-sore-muscle-herbal-salve-joints-muscles-tension-stiffness?rq=cayenne

@HeidiVillegas4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can--- The thing to remember is that arnica has a different action on the body than cayenne. It is very helpful for helping your body heal bruising faster, as well as external inflammation and pain. There is evidence cayenne really helps with joint health. Do a bit of research, and give it a try! :-) Perhaps even make two small salves of different ingredients to test them out. That's kind of the fun thing about herbalism: The experimenting to find out what works best for you! :-)

Can use castor oil in this
@HeidiVillegas3 ай бұрын
You can use some, but not all, as it's too thick. Just cut some in as a substitute for the carrier oil.

Why not use , pepper 🌶️ flakes instead of the powder. Is one better than the other .
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
I've found you can obtain more powerful infused oil from the powder, in the case of cayenne. :-)

I wonder if there is an easier way seems like a lot of steps to this.

You *could* use the infused oil straight....but it's VERY strong.

Does this help with shoulder cuff pain

It may, Johanna. Pain is different for everyone, but it's sure worth a try.

Do you have a link for the higher (160,000) heat unit cayenne?

Starwest has several different options (at least they used to): bit.ly/StarBot (afflink)

Does the cayenne salve stain sheets and clothes? It seems like it might.
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
You don't need to use that much, so we've never had any issues with staining. Now turmeric would stain!

Are there any staining problems on the skin or clothing?
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
I've never had issues with cayenne. However, with turmeric infused carrier....yes, this can be a problem. It depends on the herb... It also depends on how much you use.

Trying to find the written out recipe on your site but having trouble
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
It starts where it says, "Ingredients," then you'll see "Directions," and then there's a how to use it section.❤️ The base recipe: 1 cup herbal infused oil, 1/4 cup beeswax, and essential oils to the dilution you want. For a salve used in a localized area, I like a 3% to 5% depending on the person, the condition, whether they're on medications or not, etc.

Hello Heidi, can I use an infused comfrey oil and add cayenne powder to it?
@HeidiVillegas2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can!
@tiffanyjenkins56177 ай бұрын
If you add cayenne into infused comfrey oil, would you need to wait 4-6 weeks for the cayenne to infuse into the comfrey oil before making the salve?
@rdefaoite94134 ай бұрын
@@tiffanyjenkins5617 I’m planning to make a comfrey salve - just drying the leaves right now. Having watched this video, I think I will add some cayenne pepper at the same time as the comfrey and infuse them both together. I don’t believe that will be a problem.

I have seen many many chayenne salve making in youtube. No matter how interested I am, I cannot make my self make one. Because I'm afraid that I would accidentally touch my eyes and it would be crazy hot 😅

LOL---Yes, this is definitely something to watch out for! Wash hands SUPER well!

Can't you just allow the oil to settle and then pour off the top without straining it?
@HeidiVillegas11 ай бұрын
Yes, you can do this, and just keep the rest of the herb in the oil. Just don't shake it first!
