I actually made my own Caylus game. My kids & I painted tiles and little cubes. We drew the pictures and made it ourselves. It was a fun project. Did we save money doing so? No. It probably cost us more, but it was a fun project.

Anyone know how the complexity compares to agricola?

I would say it's a hair simpler, and with little luck. It also plays faster and the score is never secret/has to be inferred. The game itself isn't actually complicated. It's quite straightforward actually. But getting good takes quite a few plays.

Have read a written review of Caylus few years ago when i was just coming to bgames. Didn't do much impression on me. Well, sometimes you really have to try the game yourself to find out if it really that good.
