A truly excellent and intelligently presented video. I worked in the motor trade for 18 years and soon learnt it was only selling cars that were well prepared and giving good aftersales service that brought customers, their families and their friends back time and again to deal with you, NOT low prices and gimmicks.

I have seen disruptor's come, and go in the motor industry, some have stayed the course, others have burnt out. I remember back in the 1980s, we had 'Car Store'. It was one the first of the mix of used car sales and fast fit, in a large open plan showroom. It was high APRs and signing people up for service plans which costs lots but did not cover much, and then up selling when they had your car apart.When it went bust, it owed everyone locally money and nearly caused the local car spares motor factor to go under. Covid definitely caused the market to go on line much more, but there are still many people who will not buy such a big purchase just by looking at it from a PC screen. There will always be room for the small dealer, who gives good service.

A car dealer giving good honest service ? Never seen one
@paddycoleman14729 ай бұрын
As someone who recently purchased a used vehicle I went through a load of options when looking. However, when push came to shove I ended up buying from a relatively local (45 mins away) Audi dealer. The trouble with cars (even brand new ones - this is the first used car I have purchased) is that they have problems despite what manufacturers might say in their advertising. When you need help you will be glad that you have a dealer nearby who you can take the car back to and work with them to get it fixed. Personal service is far more valuable than people give it credit. My own used purchase has turned in to a nightmare and resulted in half the car requiring a respray due to a previous poor quality repair (that neither I or the dealer was aware of). However, between the dealer and Audi UK we have been able to work through the issues to a satisfactory resolution. Personally, I just do not see cars as a commodity purchase like a washing machine etc. Cars are expensive, complex machines which are often bought with a lot of emotion and this requires a supportive and comprehensive sales process.
@jamesmiller1139 ай бұрын
Man that sucks, what happened to mean it needed a 50% respray? (That nobody noticed earlier - very sporting of the dealer to honour that)
@paddycoleman14729 ай бұрын
@@jamesmiller113 Hi James, Long story but basically the car had been in some sort of accident which involved the replacement of the NSF wing. When this was replaced it would seem they resprayed the OSF wing, bonnet, NSF wing, both NS doors and the NSR wing but alas not very well. The repair did not show up on the CarVertical report I purchased as it had not resulted in an insurance claim (be aware, reports such as CarVertial only show accidents involving some sort of insurance claim!). When I had the car professionally valeted the lacquer started to peel off the NSR wing and this is what led me to finding out what had happened to the vehicle. I then took the car to a Body shop for inspection and this is when all this came to light. I have the car back now and it has been repaired to Audi UK standards and is covered by a 3 year Audi paint warranty (as per a new vehicle). The car had only done 6K miles when I bought it!

Cazoo along with other similar sellers have manipulated the used car market. In that respect it was revolutionary and there was a clear consumer marker for that sales model. The problem was that the cost to serve that business model and poor core operations (pricing, prep cost etc) meant a completely disfunctional business from a P&L perspective. As the video said, easy to deliver great customer experience when you are over paying for stock and making extremely low margins.

All that money wasted on sponsorships, buying up companies, expanding too quickly, going into Europe too quickly, going on the New York stock exchange too early. No wonder why it was doomed to fail it expanded too big too quickly and the money squandered on sponsorship should have been put back in the company. Shame the board couldn’t see this or tailor the model slightly to allow some people to come and deal face to face. Do Cazoo have to make a profit as they are owned by ‘British’ Car Auctions ?
@ockham069 ай бұрын
That's Cinch, not Cazoo

@@ockham06 it’s an anagram of Cinch !! Thanks for pointing that out though !

good riddance to them, I hate the large bulk car shifters (note I don't say dealers) because inevitably they don't have time to check each vehicle is working properly. Get it sold and hope it works and rely on the warranty company, there are no insults in entish, elvish or the tongues of men. If every dealer was like you and Chops and the other hard workers who care, the car industry would be a much better place, but the charlatans bring it down. Why spend more time arguing with the customer than it would take to fix the bloody car??? That said your video on the Porsche, poo bags on the customer side too, that was appalling.

The problem for Cazoo is Auto Trader gets 15 times as many visits per month: Cazoo; 2 million. Auto Trader 35 million. I don't see this new business model working out.

Im a pleb so only buy cars for less than £500 .last fiat paid £250 six years ago and still goes like a clock.

The property market and car market are so similar - Rightmove/Autotrader, Cazoo/Purple Bricks. Unregulated, high value, service should be king, but easier to to do a sht job so gets a bad name.

Just looked at their cheapest offering. A fiat 500 with 13 imperfections. Sure you wouldn’t get that on your forecourt. Interior looks minging.

Golden rule of sales - people buy from people first, the product second. If they like you as an individual they will buy if not they will walk. Online really does nothing to recognise this so only the price is important. No way with their overhead they could square the circle.

That's kind of me but I'm the opposite. Products and services first, if sales people are t055ers I'm off.

Add to this as well that if service is 5h1t, like the garage I had to use to mot my car after I moved house, I tend not to say anything. Now on my search for a garage to do my MOT, and I know full well I will be absolutely chastised and loathed by most, but I left it too late. However, one recommended garage near me, with good Google reviews, will never see me or anyone I know in future. I walked in and said "any chance of a service and mot before Friday (it was the Monday morning I think) to which the owner said "listen mate, you've more chance of maddie McCann walking in here than that happening! I was left wondering A, WTF has a dead kid got to with an mot, B why the f*uck anyone would think that was funny and C who the hell would even say that out loud to a potential customer! Anyway! So I get my car booked in just round the corner from my house, not at the aforementioned place of course, f*uck that! Get a phone call "it's passed and ready for collection by 5pm." Great I thought. I walk the mile from my house to the garage, it's about 3 degrees and snowed a little a few days earlier so it's not nice out. I arrive, office door is locked, "huh, wtf!" I go round the side and find my car in the yard, drivers window open, bonnet up. I go inside the roller door where two people one who is the owner, are cutting or grinding with a grinder. I say I'm there for my car. Guy says "oh erm which one?" That one over there and I point at my car in the yard. Guy says "ah erm we've not serviced it yet mate we got behind with the snow, you'll need to come back tomorrow" F*ucking great I thought, I'd literally just told my non driving wife I'd pick her up from work in time, I'd have to tell her she'd need to beg her manager for a lift home. So I walk home AGAIN it's now dark, still 3 degrees and now my nips are like wheelnuts! Walk back the next day to get given a five hundred pound bill for plugs and a service and mot. Got given a little bottle of screenwash for free as a "sorry". They refused to even quote the work and charged me 45 pounds for oil conditioner and engine flush without any explanation or warning. Amazing Google reviews, well recommend on the community Facebook group but in my opinion, dog 5hit service! I paid more the year before but had the pleasure of a courtesy car, granted the franchised dealer took 12 pounds a day for it but courtesy cars aren't free. Sometimes, just sometimes, franchised dealers are actually worth using, they do have their benefits in some ways.

Would you have the same opinion about cinch? Or do they sit better with you as they didnt really do much of the middle finger to the motor trade?
