Excellent video Johnny. There aren't many CB recapping videos out there... But this is the best one by far! 👍

To complicated for me, what "The air in your lungs goes out through your vocal cords in your throat and causes them to vibrate making sound waves that make the mic pick them up making sound go down into the radio!" Johnny, what the hell are you on? That aside, that corrosive glue can conduct so you should remove it where found. Electrolytic capacitors, do not assume that the black stripe is negative, I have had some that was positive. I stuck one in a board and just before I turned it back on I thought to myself "That cap' does not look right somehow!" On inspection it was marked + on the stripe! I was not happy as it was a bitch to change in the first place! Half an hour later and job done :-( Also as you said, they get the screen print wrong in the factory sometimes, or they discover the cap is the wrong way round. Relied on the board once, then looked at the cap and thought "It wasn't like that when I took it out!" Yes, marked on the board wrong, but I learn quick! Luckily I have not turned something on that had one the wrong way round "Yet". I bet that big smoothing Cap in that rig is way off its value! But if there is no hum, don't bother unless you are going to use the rig. It is bound to be about 50 years old!

Oh yes I’m going to replace every capacitor in here, I’ll definitely be using this radio For testing some of my ideas out on. And it’s good to know that the stripe could also be wrong and the cathode and anode could be marked wrong due to shitty high speed production, I’ll keep your comment pinned to the top so people can see it in case they run into that situation Thanks Bob 👍

@@JohnnyNJones I don't think it was production that was wrong, it was how they were made. I might still have some around, but I check every time before putting one in the board, just in case it is a + marked on the black instead of a - which almost caught me out. I think they were blue and light blue, which is the norm here, but not the usual manufacturer! I should have kept them separate from all my other caps. But two house moves later they are all mixed through each other!

Ohhh I recognize that, That must be monty pythons life of brian. It’s incredible how decent of a song that is just to be a joke. Because I’ve heard it places other than the movie it certainly was popular

Cool buddy, This one here is a 23 channel but I certainly do like it and I’m gonna use it too I don’t use a big fancy radio even though I have them. I don’t know I like that old 70s feel to my CB radios

Why not 16 volt caps?
@JohnnyNJones2 жыл бұрын
If you’re replacing one you need to either replace it with a voltage rating of the same or more than the original Since many of our CB radios were made a long time ago the capacitors were usually much larger and had lower voltage ratings Now we have smaller capacitors with equal capacitance and higher voltage ratings so it’s totally fine to replace them with those The voltage rating just means how much voltage the capacitor can take before it is destroyed So of course replacing it with the higher ones totally fine
