I have a similar radio made by a company called President. I have a hand held, a mobile attached to my gator and a base station to monitor. I was able to talk to my gator from my hand held from 2 miles away. One thing to consider is during a time when these types of communication may be needed, there will likely be far less electrical interference and lower level signals might be heard better since there will be less noise.

Good points, thanks. I heard that the President line of radios are very good, I was looking at the President McKinley with ssb. Btw, there is No way I would ever buy a President Biden cb radio. Lol

Nice. I have a few handhelds also and keep magnetic rooftop antennas behind our seats in both vehicles. Also like the fact they have the NOAA stations on them which could be very important for communications. You have good taste in vehicles 😉. Those things just run good forever, even if neglected.

I would consider getting an old realistic handheld, the ones with the extendable antennas, I know they can be bulky and the antennas are really long, but I have this radio you’re using, a president Randy which is really good, and the realistic trc 222 and 216, and they are far better with talking and hearing, they are bulky though compared to newer handhelds.

run a 4watt stock sideband bearcat, 17ft antron , jumper pack and a trickle charger. the project was 200-250$ all together and just wanted to keep it ass cheap as possible. talking all over the country.

If you have your tech license, I would recommend getting a yaesu or icom handheld, those are far easier to program by the keypad than a baofeng, I wanted to throw my uv5r against the wall as I didn’t have a computer at that time.

A good idea on the radio.. The reference to "The Chair is against the wall" I remember that line in an old movie. I can't recall. Do enlighten me? Cheers, Mate.

Honestly you'll have a handle. Get a map of your local area and make 3 or 4 code names for places and keep it on a card. You could make your own radio language just by then you could still be talking words with out people knowing aka " code talkers".
