I totally agree about BBC needing to advertise more on yt. Back in September they acquired over 1000 episodes of one piece, I assume to try and reach more of a teen and young adult demographic, but since September I haven't seen a single ad on yt saying that its now on I player, the place most their audience for that show is.

And they got the latest Pokémon series in December 2022, before Netflix got it in the US some time in the Spring (and at least here in London I remember seeing lots of advertising in public about it), but there have been no new episodes released since September. Now that could be something on The Pokémon Company's end, rather than the BBC, but when TV used to be aired in a fashion that you'd get a new episode of a series once per week, consistently, over a long period of time, these occasional batches being posted on iPlayer and aired daily on TV does concern me.

It's a shame that the channels we grew up with are disappearing and really makes you aware of your aging and how fast times change. When I was a kid I thought CBBC would be around forever, now I'm wondering how much longer it has. You absolutely hit the nail on the head with your point about not wanting CBBC to lose its personality; the presenter links really gave you a personal connection to the channel and the sheer variety of shows was brilliant. All of that disappearing would be a bit like seeing a British landmark be knocked down and turned into a block of flats, lol. It would lose everything that made the channel unique. But beyond that it's obvious that we're in the endgame of linear kids tv, which is a shame. There's something genuinely kinda sad about realising that the kind of memories that made your childhood are becoming outdated and the next generation will have something completely different. That is just life, I'm sure they won't know the difference, but I have to wonder how different my childhood would have looked like if I'd have been plugged into KZbin Kids from an early age instead of waiting round the dinner table for Tracy Beaker to come on 😭

And I bet no one here knows that CBBC stands for, it stands for Children's BBC which is the age group of 0-12, there's no need for a separate channel for babies. I would close down CBeebies and have all of its shows moved into CBBC, that way children past the 0-6 age group can stay with CBBC but watch shows for 7-12.

I hope it has been saved being online will kill it off completely it still has its iconic shows Newsround and Blue Peter and it has revived the Saturday morning shows we used to watch with Saturday Mash-Up! Which has recently celebrated 200 episodes and is returning later this year, how that would work if it went online only, so I hope CBBC do stay as a tv channel.

This year marks 40 years since CBBC launched as a brand, hopefully they celebrate it in some way with old idents and programmes (perhaps rebroadcasting shows like Tracy Beaker). I can see CBBC surviving for another year or two, perhaps they wouldn't want to close it down in its 40th year (unlike ITV who decided to just axe it without any special send off, I remember watching a livestream of its final moments on KZbin as I was in Switzerland at the time).

CBBC may only have a short stay of execution. The next date to keep an eye on is November 16th, 2026. Just before the current Royal Charter is due to expire. If the BBC does not renew its licence for BBC B, all HD channels and a number of SD channels will disappear from Freeview. It would also make the cessation of DVB-T2. A regressive move that will leave the platform looking outdated and if the funding mechanism is changed (ie behind a paywall), could risk Freeview, DAB, FM and other platforms as a whole as the BBC funds a fair chunk of the costs for the broadcasting infrastructure which the commercial sector will not be able to make up the shortfall for.

(It also doesn't help when KZbin falsely flags them as 'Made for Kids') Side Note: Since it's CBBC's 30th anniversary this September. I can't help but wonder how they'll celebrate it. I do wonder if the likes of Nickelodeon will go free to air in time in order to maximise advertising revenues in a different world. Some of those subscription kids channels must really struggle to generate enough revenue to stay on air, particularly with anti junk food policies and having a very narrow set of advertising options open to them. Certainly in the 90’s most adverts on these channels was for junk stuff aimed at kids. Remember all those mobile ringtone adverts, junk foods, pay day loans and toys which probably don’t interest older kids much anymore. Plus come on Adam do a TCC video 😊 The Children’s Channel had a very interesting history and also basically crashed off air overnight without warning.

It also means that they can only show shows that are shown on CBBC (or CBeebies). BBC Three went online only and look how much of a failure that was. Nothing wrong with making stuff available online. But I hate this move to prioritise online. Whole series getting dropped at midnight, so you either have to binge the whole thing at once, or avoid online discussions for weeks and weeks. I occasionally watch the CBBC Channel. Some good stuff on there, plus recently they were airing repeats of Planet Earth. The buttons on the TV remote is an interesting point. Mine has Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV and Spotify. I have never used any of these. I would happily replace them with buttons for the iPlayer and other British streaming services, the ones I actually use.

CBBC still has a lot of original programming, while CITV on the other hand axed their original programming back in 2006. For CITV, the channel last way ahead of what it needed. In fact really, I think having a linear channel for CITV was a a huge mistake for ITV, CITV should have just stuck as a TV block on ITV1 all the way through, it would have saved ITV a lot of money and done the same way as Channel 5s Milkshake. It is all what CITV needs. Linear channels work for BBC. They don’t for ITV. CBBC is basically at the stage of still doing what CITV last did in 2004 with in vision continuity.

I think there's a danger of conflating two issues - (a) CBBC's exiatence as a linear channel; (b) the BBC's ability to produce and "broadcast" - in the widest sense of the word! - good quality content for children. If the Beeb is still able to produce great content for kids, surely it doesn't matter *where* that content is output, whether linear broadcast, iPlayer or even KZbin, as long as it's easy to find? Iplayer has been installed and prominent on every modern smart TV I've ever seen, so I'm not sure if "accessibility" or "visibility" is the main issue here. In my own experience, Cbeebies was excellent but CBBC just seems much less compelling to young viewers graduating from Alphablocks and Balamory. Perhaps the Beeb is simply struggling to generate content appealing to Generation Alpha?

Yeah back in 2007-2014 it was great to watch but ever since streaming services, longer iPlayer times and KZbin has affected the channel (especially when it rebranded in 2016 and again in 2023) it became pointless to watch because most of those shows are on iPlayer anyways and that Hacker T dog ( who has been on CBBC ever since 2009, 15 years ago) might move to CBeebies after CBBC ends but I'm not sure what they are going to do to Hacker after it ends.

I also think another problem for CBBC was the presenter, In Late 2007 - Early 2009, Ed and Oucho were the presenters and they were iconic because you have Ed Petrie who is trying to act like a normal presenter and you have Oucho the Cactus who usually messes things up. They had great storylines that go on for a week, great side segments like shredder time and the big debate and just being a funny duo. In mid 2009 Iain and Hacker t dog took over and while I think there not as good, there still fun to watch overall. Then came Chris and dodge where I think things started to turn, Dodge was also iconic because he would go on to be in CBeebies in 2015 but I think Chris was ok. He was fine to watch but nothing compares to Ed and Oucho and Iain and Hacker. Then when Iain left the presenter really started to ramp up but they were also kind of forgetful. Katie, Karim and Lauren had some great laughs and bloopers but I know there were a few others whose names I forget all the time. So overall Ed and Oucho and Iain and Hacker gave CBBC charm, being funny and being iconic but afterwards they got worse especially when it rebranded.

Also Hacker should've lasted for 15 years, I get why they keeped him, most likely because of the voice actor ( who does a great voice for hacker) but he should've lasted until 2013-2015.

There channels are just too popular and too much of a risk to close them down otherwise they could lose there audience.

KZbin content for kids is terrible. My little brother keeps finding videos of people swearing and saying stupid stuff. When it comes to KZbin I think we need content creators like Stampylongnose as he was very child friendly and always made sure their was no swearing. So many evil money hungry people are taking advantage of kids watching their content. Im not sure what to do as my brother wouldn't be able to watch anything else as he likes his gaming videos. Tomorrow I will see if it can find something on CBBC gaming related. I do remember there was an advert about something gaming related so I will see if I can find it. Once your kids start watching stuff it's hard to get them off it. I wouldn't like it if someone took away KZbin from me. The child settings for KZbin are terrible and YTkids is too babyish

From 1pm till 6 pm weekdays bbc2 just all repeats constantly. Why not give children's TV bigger focus and put CBBC back on main linear channel 3.30 till 5.30 bbc2 weekdays cut down need for so many repeats and get more eyes on children's content as stands out more?

I think you need to do a report on ITV and the sheer amount of repeats. Bullseye I count has been on 4 to 5 x . Deal no deal is repeating parts of last series . Then you look at Xmas and its total none event
