Children's TV has been hit hard in recent years, but now for CBBC, more cuts are coming... The presentation team, who for decades have provided the integral links between programmes, are potentially under threat... Will this beloved part of UK kids TV finally bite the dust...?

Bit of a long rant lol, but a passionate one nonetheless. Shame to see the slow decline of the channel I once held so dear. Seriously, I can't understate what CBBC meant to me as a kid. Seeing that green 2007 logo always invokes so much nostalgia lol. It seemed like it was ALWAYS on in the background as a kid, and was always there to entertain us, whether watching Arthur, League of Super Evil, Splatalot, Copycats, etc before school started, or racing home to watch some Tracy Beaker, Horrible Histories, Strange Hill High, Blue Peter, All at Sea, Worst Year of My Life Again, Roy, etc. I grew to love the routine of watching my favourite shows and discovering new ones because nothing else was on, lol. From about 2010-2016, CBBC was my favourite channel to tune into for all my favourite shows, but what really set CBBC apart was the links and presenters, the ever-changing friendly faces you'd see every day, just mucking about, cracking jokes, playing games and having fun in the CBBC office. And hell, does anyone remember the songs and parodies they made? Serve Up The Jam? We Will Never Have A Milky Brew Together? Call Me Yonko? It's CBBC, if you snooze you lose? The effort to make the channel fun was what made CBBC CBBC, and without the presenters and links, it's just any old corporate kids channel with dwindling budget. Sad really, even after growing up and out of it, I always took some comfort in the fact that CBBC and its revolving cast of presenters would always be there in some form, and entertain many more generations of children as they did me. The need for CBBC seems to have steadily decreased over the years, which is a huge shame. Gen Alpha don't know what they missed out on. Whilst I'm aware that the channel's time is limited, I hope it sticks out long enough for them to do a 40th anniversary special in September 2025. I was watching the 30th anniversary special live as a 10 year old and loved it lol, hope they get to do a 40th. Would be a lovely send off to the channel as we know it. Will be very sad to see it go but we'll always have the memories at least ❤

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Britain needs a revival of the 1980s/90s The Children's Channel, dedicated to getting the classics of UK kids TV (and some US and other) altogether on one network.

Back in the day all they needed for “presentation” was to slap a camera and a mic in the presentation suite and call it “the broom cupboard”… it was probably an old camera too so cost zero and the “presenter” cued the shows and literally was in control of the channel.

It's quite sad about things like kids TV channels. Technology is mostly amazing on how you can watch especially old clips that bring a lot of good memories however it does mean you wouldn't want to watch anything on an actual TV screen thanks to streaming such as Netflix/BBC iPlayer because you can now watch in different ways.

I heard they stopped doing presenter cuts a while ago. Now it's pre recorded scripts or done with what appears to be a green screen outside of the studio. Really takes away any appeal of the channel. So unfortunate that this channel is dying slowly. Meant a lot to me in my younger years.

I guess presentation links in regards to linking one program to another would become unnecessary but something similar that more goes as extra content or updates. This could be skits related to shows, behind the scenes stuff, interviews. Different takes on the show. Segments that are front and center on the website can suggest new programmes and direct kids on what to watch.

Honestly, I got my fingers crossed that things don't take a really drastic turn with CBBC, though I'm still glad CBeebies isn't going anywhere from traditional TV, and that's a good thing, too. And heh, boy, the clip you put at the end before the video's outro really takes me back to all the comedy skits CBBC brought (like the Incredible Edible gag and Chris getting the unfortunate nickname of "Yonko").

Cost cutting is probably why they charge actors in long running tv shows, dumping ground for example. Should have ended at series 10 nice round number but reset it again like I mention previously. Actors are slightly older than OG Cast but not as old as previous cast either. I would say dumping ground probably got 3 to 5 series left with its current cast. Tho I have stopped watching it now. CBeebies will go online after tv moved online. It’s just matter of when sky(freesat likely to end same time. Freeview a bit longer but freely & sky glass.

Maybe CBBC moving to streaming isn't quite such an omen. How come? Well, I don't know how it works in other countries, but here in America at least, there are a few streaming platforms that basically act like free cable, as well as regulat streaming. Streamers like The Roku Channel and Pluto TV come to mind

Can you imagine all the many kids TV presenters heading for the unemployment line or dole offices? “Oh, look! It’s that guy from the 90s! That bloke with Gordon the Gopher or Otis the Aardvark or whatever the hell it was? I wonder what they’re doing nowadays? Oh, that’s right - one of them was a former Yewtree suspect, now it makes perfect sense. Well, whoop-dee-chuffing-doo! That’s our childhood ruined!”

They would probably stay within the TV system. In Ireland, the 90s host of The Den, RTE's CBBC equivalent, Ray D'arcy went on to have a more successful career outside of the Den than he did in it. He has hosted a daily radio show of some form since 1998 and had a Saturday night chat show for a while as well.

I just think bbc should go streaming, I don’t think it needs to be a channel anymore outside of news. Streaming is just where the demand is and the license fee seems just an unnecessary tax in a time where nobody’s really watching the bbc.

You come back again to watch it and don’t forget that New so you would get at 5 o’clock everyone loved that but not having it anymore. It would just be horrible and CBBC be gone. Kunesberg , Mason sacked - 500k, and Linker put on more reasonable pay packet, you could easily save the 100 million in no time and animation - was she at ITV as I bet it will just less human content and cheap animation shows brought in like they did with CITV. But, its ok, becuase she must know what she is doing as per Tory BBC mindset she comes from the Private sector, bet the new chief isn't taking a pay cut, probably just feathering her bonus lol

I wonder how Peggy Patch is doing these days from Playdays, she was the Tuesday Puppet Character. Otis was very entertaining too, plus the chuckle brothers were excellent all rounders, your parents could even laugh at them and they had genuine talent at what they done. 4 channel TV had bore factor for young people outside those weekend mornings and the hour or two in the afternoon and morning. Although school programs could be interesting at time, Palin adventure travel repeats were fabulous for me anyway. The most annoying show to like; was Sesame Street as Channel 4 had it on during weekday daytime; so sick kid viewing 😮 plus This Morning was always a cheeky look 👀 into adults life’s 🤭 which Richard & Judy used to mention regularly 😊 Friday Weather was always something to flick on to.
