Lots of people have the wrong impression about the role of *Music Producer* aka *Record Producer* as they don't market and promote themselves as they work behind the scenes that "physically" collaborates with the Artist and Engineer in the studio that supervises, directs and controls recording sessions. They are hired by Record Labels and Artist's. Beat Making on the other hand falls under the SongwritIng umbrella as Beat Makers are Composer's not Producer's. That's is why they get Publishing. *Timbaland, Scott Storch, Pharrell Williams, Rodeny Jerkins, Dr. DRE* are real Record Producer's like Quincy Jones as they do far more than just making beats. They are what you call *Record Producer / Songwriter's* as they are wearing two hats as the Composer that composes the orignal music such the beat and traditonal Record Producer role when they are in the studio collaborating with the Artist, Musican and Engineer. They see thr whole thing through all the way down to the mix as it doesn't just end at the beat. They control the recording sessions, provide a musical insight to the Vocalist and Engineer and they some times hire session musicians, string conductors, arrangers etc. Timbaland hired *Larry Gold* and the Southwest Chamber Orchestra that provided the string Arragment for *Justin Timberlake Cry Me A River* as an example. Most Producers work for Production companies aka Production House, or own their own production company, while some are entirely Indepement like myself that is hired as an independent contractor. Each time a Signed Artist or Record Company hires Pharrell or Timbo, they enter into *Producer Agreements* as a Sub-Contractor which is a legal binding agreement to engage Producer's services to produce the Masters for the Recording Artist. I have two different Producer Agreements myself as I have a 18 Page one with a Record Company and another one for indie Artists that hires me to produce the Masters. The scope of Producer Agreement talks about Recording Budgets, the Producer's Advance which is generally recoupable against Points on an Album. The Producer's Advance generally comes out of the Recording budget as an "all-in". Points on the Ablum known as Producer's Royalty comes out of the Artist Recording Agreement. Most Producers ask around 3%. The agreement also goes on into Neigboring Rights Royalties, Union Scale payments, Tax forms when the Producer hires Session Musicans, Controlled Composition clauses if the Record Producer contributed as the Co-Writer of the song hence if the Producer contributed to writing the Lyrics or composing the Music that are entitled to Mechanical royalties etc.
