Just to let our neighbors to the north know, Travis King was a poor excuse for a soldier. He was a Private for two years . Most soldiers are at a rank of Private First Class in a year or less. I’m assuming he’s a MAJOR discipline problem, seeing his arrest record. Imagine how disrespectful he had to be to be KICKED OUT OF NORTH KOREA.

WTF indeed. I worked as a personnel specialist while in the army, and getting someone out of service is a major PITA, it takes forever. Now with him being back, he will spend some time being evaluated at BAMC at the reintegration unit, then maybe getting charges because he did go AWOL, they didn't say if the army declared him a deserter while in NK custody (usually 30 days after going AWOL). Long story short: he is in a lot of trouble. It says a lot that in 2 1/2 years he was only a PV2, that should tell you his time in service was very troubled indeed.

Thinking this young man may have a mental disorder, I'm not a physician but his actions remind me of people who do suffer from being bipolar. Why on earth would you run to North Korea, he must have had an idea of it's reputation and his own inability to follow rules (if he had normal thinking). Also North Korea realized he wasn't a reliable source for information, and that he was definitely off in his ability to process even the most basic of procedures, so they gave him back. Sad, I hope he gets the mental support he needs.

It's also possible he was feeling suicidal. It's widely known that you're going to get shoot by NK if you cross the border. But he probably didn't know that this rule doesn't apply at DMZ, literally a "demilitarized zone," which is the portion of the border he crossed. So he was escorted rather than being shot on the spot.

I agree. Just because his actions are deadass wrong doesn’t mean that what he’s saying about the inner workings of the US Army isn’t true. Now instead of rehabilitating him they’re just gonna punish him and the Army is free to keep covering up their issues behind closed doors. For the record. Homie is more wrong than a priest with a nun and his actions were abominable and ALSO the “what cause this behaviour” also needs to be explored.

He's one angry soldier. He needs to find another profession. Probably right in what he claims but he's just a disillusioned kid.

He won't. The State Dept, the military, and the CIA will all be interested in talking to this young man to learn what they can about the inner workings of the N Korean regime. I predict that he will parlay this incident into a rewarding career.

His act can be the one of someone who is saying implicitly he need attention, he need to be heard. He may be psychologically very tired. Maybe military isn't something suitable for him. This is an issue of a despaired. If he is jailed this can only make things worse for him. But if all these are played down, it can help him to recover. Attentiveness to human beings in order to detect signs.

Imagine being so useless that even North Korea no see any purpose of having you as hostage 😆 I guess this guy thought he could be treated like Dennis Rodman if he just said he was a basketboll professional before joining the army
