Who was consulted? Certainly not me. I was proud of what the images on the old passport represented about Canada and our history. It could even be a talking point with my friends to the South. While it is always valid to critique colonialism, it doesn't make sense to say Canada is not a nation. Part of being a nation, country, state, etc. is that others recognize you as such. This is why although Palestine or Kurdistan lack statehood, they are still recognized as nations by others as distinct political societies. Canada is recognized as a nation by the international community and is even a founding member of multiple international organizations, such as the UN and NATO. It just seems wrong to say a nation older than Germany doesn't exist.

Ahh yes, who doesn't remember sitting on the classroom floor, gathered around the teacher, as they went through their passport page by page telling the stories behind each image. That's why we need historical imagery in our passports. There is no other way we'd learn about Canada's history.
