Geena Davis traces her journey from small town girl to Hollywood star and activist

Geena Davis has starred in some of the biggest movies of the last 40 years, like Thelma & Louise, The Fly, Beetlejuice and A League of Their Own. Even after winning two Oscars, she never seemed to let the fame get to her head. In her new memoir, Dying of Politeness, she writes about her journey to stardom and how she learned to become a little bit more "badass" along the way. She also takes a pretty stark look into Hollywood and the mistreatment she experienced at auditions and on set. Davis joined Tom Power to tell us more.

So fascinating to learn that her working with Sarandon on Thelma & Lousise suddenly opening a whole new world for her … like them both speeding off of that grand canyon abyss of ultimate outrageous freedom … not so easy to wear upon landing tho no matter who you are. I have always loved the brilliant, fast-spoken spunk of Ms Davis. I disliked her Th & L film which made her career, because she has always been so much better and smarter than the life that this film represents: she's so much BETTER than "Th". More befitting were her roles as the speechwriter in Speechless (1994), and the pirate princess in Cutthroat Island (1995), let alone as Dottie in A League of their Own (1992). What a tearjerking bunch of POSITIVE roles, INSTEAD OF NEGATIVE ONES LIKE THELMA, which every female idiot actually likes, instead of repudiating! Such a poor, broken message to impart that suicide was the only way out for wives who wanted better than violence out of their husbands during their entire marriage. Who accepts such living standards?

One has to have a great bent kind of humor to understand what Thelma & Louise was really about … outrageously hillarious 😂 … and from that bent point of view … extremely positive for women.
