I am annoyed at this issue. Especially when buying to go. I bought shelf items and found myself facing the tip thing, the women behind the counter saw my annoyed expression and was so quick to press "no tip" (for me). . During COVID this was a way to sort of help out the stores. But tip-flation has just grown out of control and is quickly becoming a custom, to the point that I simply don't go to certain stores because I don't want to pay $14 for a latte and slice of banana loaf (including tip). . . At a Thai restaurant I got a fantastic meal (at a good price of about $12). I ordered a beer and an ice cream (price not listed). They gave me a mini tub of ice cream that was a bit too much for me. The beer price was not listed but when the bill arrived I notice the beer was $13 (more than the meal) and the ice cream was a whopping $40. What started as a budgeted $20 meal landed up being $65 plus tax AND they expected me to pay a tip on top of all that(I paid $0 tip).

I have travelled twice as a tourist to the United States and what has shocked me the most is the tipping culture. In Spain, tipping is not socially obligatory and is usually no more than a rounding up to avoid coins. A tip of 5 euros is a great tip for a dinner and if you leave 10 euros they will think you have made a mistake and will probably warn you. Another thing that drives me crazy in the USA is that the price on the label is not the final price. In Europe that would be a rip-off, as it is obligatory that prices include ALL taxes and fees. My son is now working in the USA and he told me something that had happened to him that I only thought happened in the Third World, while travelling with his girlfriend through Texas he had a tyre blowout, he says it was because of the heat and that in that area of the highway there were a lot of tyre remains, after a few minutes a police car approached and offered to help them change the tyre and said that later if they wanted they could give him a tip... he helped them change the tyre and my son gave him 20 dollars and the policeman happily accepted it, then he took them to a place to put a new tyre on, there were several cars there with the same problem and the owner of the shop gave the policeman more money for bringing him a client... my son has worked in several underdeveloped countries and understands that there a policeman or a civil servant has to earn a little extra money, but in the USA...

In Europe (you know where everything is expensive), I get homemade food for the same amount or less taking exchange into account. And there is no need to tip, although I usually do. Ever wonder why the first thing they ask you is "what would you like to drink"? Drinks...there is a huge money maker and even though it is taxed by the government, they tax you another HST on top of it. As a past flight instructor making far less than anyone, do you think I got tipped by my students? Dream on and it cost me a lot to get all my licences and I am far more qualified than someone bringing my food. I prefer going to the bar counter, ordering my food and paying for it and when it is ready I go and get it. The bar I go to in Oz does it that way.

If I order my Starbucks drink through the app; I do not need to tip. One time, I ordered Pizza Hut online and now they are asking to tip before it did not have that option. First of all, I am just grabbing the pizza and I am taking up my own time and gas of the vehicle to get to Pizza Hut for pick up. That is the time I don’t tip. He said he is going to fried another one for me. It was fined, but when I had a couple bites. The coxinha taste cold from the inside. I had their ball shape chocolate dessert called brigadeiros. I had it many times and the other time I took a bite and it taste dry. This is the time I don’t type. I went to this Vietnamese restaurant to pick up a few food. For delivery with Skip or Door Dash.... always be generous tipping 15% for the driver.... simply because you just don't want any unwanted 'extra stuff' in your food.... don't be naive and think that stapled packages must be 100% safe and most bags aren't stapled anyway...... !!

Do not forget to tip your delivery drivers but you do not need to tip at subway which did not have any extra service at all.

Way do we have tipping know they even give you a choice on the credit card scanner 10% 20% 30% 40% are you kidding me I decline every time there salary should not be my responsibility it’s the business owners responsibility. Just because they don’t make enough that do t mean I should have to tip . Get a better job that pays more money . The funny part I bought coffee at the counter and they asked for a tip 😅😅 I just said no thanks …..

Here’s how I see it don’t feel bad for not tipping if I got great service I’ll tip because I want to not because I have to. If it’s a delivery driver I don’t tip you just drove my food to my house what else did you do it’s not like a waitress who’s nice to you refills drinks gets you extra napkins recommends good food on the menu that’s different to me. Sometime I’ll tip delivery drivers if the weather is bad but in the long run it’s optional not mandatory so don’t feel like you’re a bad person for not tipping. We have gotten to the point where everyone expects it and if a Skip or DoorDash driver complains there’s no tip well then you didn’t have to accept the order now did you.

A tip is a gratuity which depends on how you were served. It's not a salary. As well, if food prices go up, my tip goes down.

*Where/Who to tip:* _Bartender/Mixologist, Servers AND Baristas who make YOUR complicated orders, DoorDash delivery drivers and hairstylists for the service only._ *Where/Who NOT to tip:* _Mechanics, retail employees for purchases of general goods, picking up food for delivery if You’re picking it yourself, anything else that does not require any customized preparation._ *How much to tip:* _20% for good service., 25% and above for excellent service._

Why to tip bartenders, waitrers? I'm doing more important job- taking care, cleaning incontinent elder, basically your grand or grandgrand parents. Did you tip any of care workers ?

If I sit in your restaurant and have you refill my water, my drink, clear my plate, bring me utensils, bring me ketchup...keep checking on me, I used your hydro and bathroom...I will tip but on the go...oh hell no. To Go is ridiculous...I took public transit or walked to get my order and bringing it home myself. I didn't sit in your establishment, I was there for a total of 4 minutes. A delivery to my place yes I tip. My hairdresser I tip. I will not tip for anything else.

Canadian are definitely bad in Maths, it’s unnecessary to increase the tips percentage . The inflation itself raise the final amount of spending that increase the tips as well. Just like the government spending, it’s not acceptable to say their spending is increased because of inflation because the inflation let the government receive more tax as well

At the end him saying if you can't afford a tip you shouldn't buy it in the first place what the hell crap is that I can afford a coffee but not the extra for a tip through the week so I shouldn't by the coffee bullshit I don't get tips for doing my job and I used to work in restaurants when I was younger and guess what if it didn't pay enough I found another job never relied on tips that to me is the irresponsible thing to do

Exactly! If you can't tip your doctor, you shouldn't see the doctor! If you can't tip your bus driver, you shouldn't take the bus! If you can't tip your cashier, you shouldn't be buying groceries, shoes, etc.

it's time to go back to $zero. those ridiculous big blue buttons pressure you. recognize that being pressured is being bullied. a powerful strike to the nose is the proper answer to a bully who pushes you for your lunch money. what is that strike at your next checkout stand? it's the tiny "no/0% tip" text. use it and use it mercilessly for being abused like this for your money, time, and nerves 😕 you can still be cool. just even ask the checker to press $zero for you after they ask the "quick question" while you take a humorous pause before saying "..it'll be cash." you then put whatever you want in the tip jar (I suggest something) without having to advertise what the amount actually is. this has been a satisfying way to do whatever you think appropriate while bypassing this deplorable system 😎

Employers, pay your staff! Expecting customers to subsidize staff wages on top of the bill just exposes an employer as a scumbag who financially abuses their staff.

I think bars/restaurants should pay their servers minimum wage and just up their prices, then nobody would come because eating out now especially is ridiculously expensive. From what I heard/read, servers get a lower salary than minimum wage and make up the rest in tips. True or not, I don't know. Excuse me, since when do I become the employer? In fact why call it a TIP; might as well call it a salary.

If im coming to you to just pick up what i ordered, no i am not gonna tip. Living salary of employees is responsibility of the owner.
