The craziest thing is how wildly inconsistent I can be. I’m in plat, and some games I can get to any ball and place my touches right where I want them, and then I’ll turn around and have three games where I’m cleanly whiffing pretty easy clears and shots.

Yeah sometimes it's hard to maintain when you're in a good place because your MMR goes up and the players you match up against start to pressure you more and leave less room for mechanical errors, especially spacing and speed. Being able to be as fast as you can, while maintaining the progress you've made in your practice is what will ultimately keep you ranking up through those tougher games. I'd say pick a mechanic you are good at, and then start to test your limits by adding speed and find out where it starts to break down. Then focus on that aspect.

Letho being inconsistent is one of the easiest things to fix. Just go into free play or any type of training and practice getting your mechanics solid. Consistency just comes with practice

Boris yeah so you need to find a platinum player to play with honestly. You need to see what platinum is about and get a teammate who can drag your MMR up a little so you can implement some of these mechanics into the game with a good teammate

Im in gold and everything except the aerials is accurate. When the ball goes up in gold dont be surprised to see 5 or even 6 players go up at once and all miss the ball entirely. Gold players aren't afraid to go up, in fact they usually go up more than they should.

I would say work on rotating around your teammates, if someone is ball chasing, play back or kindly ask them in the downtime after a goal is scored. And if they're too passive and missing a lot while missing their rotation just try take control of the game and ball chase a bit, especially if you have "above diamond aerials"

I myself used to be really strong on the ground since I wasn’t super strong in the air. I mean, I could hit powershots in the air but sometimes they would shank off me or I’d whiff. But since I didn’t trust myself in the air I dribbled a lot. Over the past 1.5 years my flicks have gotten worse but my dribbling is about the same but my aerials are much stronger. I now need to work on flicks again, something that I used to never have issues with. I could musty, breezy, 180 degree flick, quarterflip flick, and do basically anything. Now I can hardly place my regular flicks where I want them to go.

For anybody trying to rank up fast, just say out loud what you should have done better anytime something bad happens. When you hear yourself say the same thing over and over (i.e. "didnt have boost" or "back post rotation") you start to notice when you're doing something wrong faster and faster until eventually you don't do it anymore. If you keep getting beaned by the same mechanic, like messing up a flick, or getting no power on your shot, then you know what to practice. Watching videos help, but this is how I began to implement the advice into my own game play. (I'm champ 3 rn)

Sometimes it feels like a 1v3 with teammates double over committing. 🤷‍♂️ I guess I just have to make 10 saves a game and half of them won't count as saves. No problem, it is kinda hilarious to see all the "Wow!" Spammed when I actually have a chance to make a good play (and my teammates don't have a chance to come out of nowhere and awkwardly smack the ball away from me and send it straight back towards our open net) and score a basic goal in a gold lobby. That's literally 75% of my experience in gold. Sometimes you'll get 1 teammate that isn't garbage and you just have to play 2v4 against the other team + your shit teammate... 😂

I'm C3, this video is an accurate depiction however I think there are bigger differences between champ ranks than he mentioned. It does come down to how many mistakes are made but a GC will read plays and move much faster than C1's.

For any player stuck in platinum, a quick story. That section from the Champ player was the main issue I had with a friend, we used to only play together, hovering around the Platinum 1-2 rank (maybe very rarely plat 3), in that situation, facing away from the opposition goal, he would always hit the ball regardless, which broke down so many plays, we only play 3's, even though there is 2 of us (just find it more fun). Anyway Covid comes along and I have to work from home, which means any free time I get (A lot) I use to play rocket league, oh the joys of dual screen. So I start playing without my friend, and yes sometimes I get crappy team mates, they're everywhere in platinum, and while I don't trust my team mates, I use the logic of, "where do I need to be incase he messes this up", opposed to my friends logic of "he IS going to mess this up so I'm going to hit it anyway". The amount of times id be blasting in straight on goal just for my mate to hit it into the corner cos he was closer enraged me. So, 3 months of Covid later, I'm Diamond 2 (I was one damn win away form Champ 1 a few weeks ago but have been on a bad run back to D2) and he is still stuck in Platinum 1. Moral of the story is, don't trust your team mates, use the first minute of the game to judge them, if they make mistakes or miss the ball, don't fly in and hit it anyway, get into a back up position to save the day. If they aren't making many mistakes and seem on good form, trust they are going to hit it and get into a position for the pass. Ofc I'm no expert, hell I haven't even made Champ before, but now I feel like I will make Champ, sooner rather than later. I guess a simplified moral is, don't jump in for the sake of hitting the ball. No hit is better than any hit in a lot of situations. P.S - Mechanically, my friend is actually slightly better than me, especially at the flashy stuff like ball control and wall shots. The difference is I see it as a team game, my reading of the game is 50 times better than him. Hope some guys stuck in plat can get some tips (it really is the worst rank, I enjoy my games so much more in Diamond)

Love your videos. I've finally progressed up to gold last season and am just working on getting more comfortable on the wall and fast aerials. You've nailed gold play perfectly. It's like you are watching my games! Lol I think my biggest weaknesses right now are my decision making and my consistency of clearing balls on defense. Mechanically, it's exactly as you describe. I'd love to see you break down plays in terms of game sense and proper offensive positioning for us lower level players. Corners seem to be where the game is won or lost for me in gold. It's hard to explain, when the ball is boomed back into my corner I have a terrible habit of going straight at it instead of taking my time and coming at it from the far post. But even when I'm approaching a corner ball properly and making contact, it seems like the opponents are always right there to keep the play on our side. It seems like it's hard to clear the ball over the offense when my team is defending. Conversely, on offense when the ball goes into the corner when my team is on offense, the opponents seem to easily be able to clear it out from us. I'm assuming it has to do with our lack of proper offensive rotation, but I've never really seen any videos on how this is actually done... I'm not saying I watch a ton of RL KZbin videos, but I've seen my fair share and really haven't seen much discussion of proper corner tactics from an offensive and defensive perspective.

This type of video is a great concept, but I think it's hard to judge each rank by just one clip of each category. Like for example in the champ defense, anyone platinum or above should have the skill to get that easy clear. You could do a video for each rank, and then have a conclusion video or something. Picking out a single clip for an illustration is rough I have my Champ moments and my Silver moments XD... Mentioning Champs can be gc as casually as you did gives me hope I suppose. I understand some of the mental fortitude, physical health (eating, sleeping), many other factors like not having an actual warmup routine and just launching when the buds are ready. Time of day opponents etc. I can double touch here and there, dribble in Ballcam MOST of the time. No wavedashes in dribbles but can 180 flick given space 🤣. I'd be that front post nope guy though too if I feel I'm in a slump and know my buddy has boost and is behind me. Idk I can ramble on for sure. Everyone in this game at any rank can do anything. The only difference between ranks is consistency in them. Theres a difference in hitting a shot vs missing it the next 10 times. Also besides consistency, the next best thing is just to play. The more you understand how people play and react, you can use information against people. Awareness is key just need to play enough to realize how commited you are to learning it.

i hardly disagree with theres being hardly any difffence between c1-gc for me it was 4 seasons to get from c1 to gc and you can notice that people in c1-high c3 hardly ever think about what they are doing

I see alot of people saying that they are a lower rank but seem to be at the higher ranks of the things shown in this video. I do things such as Aerials consistently about like a Platinum, I have ball control in between a gold and a plat, game sense in between a Gold and a Plat, dribbling in between a gold and a plat, and defense like a Plat. Why am I still stuck in Silver 2 Div 3- Gold 1 Div 2?
