A cryin’ shame this place was not made a landmark. NYC.....loosin’ it’s grit. Huge mistake.

It was mainly a shit and pisshole of a place, really. The sanitation alone could kill you from one visit there.

Was in nyc a few weeks ago and went into where cbgb was. There was no way you could tell it was a music venue. It was kinda depressing

I think the best show I ever saw there had to be the Exploited in early 80’s, I can remember the first time we went to see em the show got cancelled for some reason , so pissed, but that kinda shit wasn’t announced on any kind of radio station I knew of & this was loooooooooonnnnnggg before cell phones & social media kiddies, we pulled up on a Friday night and the place was closed, we just drove from Philly for nothing, But met a cool ass skinhead named Bobby Snots & crashed at his squat that night, three of us stayed up drinking beer all night in a rat filled abandoned building on the lower east side, then a couple weeks went by and the Exploited finally played, you talk about intense, here I was like 16 from Philly with a Mohawk, with my spiked hair buddy surrounded by a room full of glue sniffing, beer drinking NY skinhead kids going fucking nuts, this was right before the NYHC explosion, a couple months went by and we went back to see a new upcoming local band named AGNOSTIC FRONT , fucking awesome intense band, crowd and venue, what followed became the NY city music history of NYHC at CBGB !!!!! Thanks for a couple great memories

Got to play there only once, but it still holds some weight to a younger generation (and makes me also feel old as hell) when I tell them "I played at CBGB's". Tramps too- another fun room.

Sadly $ talks in NYC, and people of influence too. Damn shame when such an iconic, historic club is shut down for good. So grateful to all the video people put on youtube of former years, bands playing to the memories of CBs.

Anyone who ever performed at this holy spot should actually teach only one thing: Don't take lessons, they only kill the spirit. Unless you wanna sound like Emerson, Lake and Palmer of course. ;) DIY, even today!

@joes2454
@joes2454 4 жыл бұрын
@@callofthewintermoon91 Hi! From what I understand, by the 90's CBGB had become a mess (even greater than when it originally opened). Broken pipes, police called often, etc. Some neighborhood committee sued the owner Hilly Kristal over unpaid rent in early 2000s and lost, then Kristal decided not to renew his lease. CBGB closed in 2006. Some fashion designer bought it and here we are today. The strange thing is CBGB was registered as a historic monument in NYC yet it sold anyway. I don't understand that part. Check out "CBGB" the movie on Netflix, Alan Rickman is amazing and they really take it back to the birth of American Punk.
