I rode a GTS about a month ago and was very impressed. I loved the front end, the weight was much less a problem then I expected and the factory ergonomics where a perfect fit for me. I think I would however be overspeeding most all the time once I got used to it. The typical thing namely is that I could ride it just like my smaller Honda NT650GT because the broad power band can perfectly emulate the NT’s conceptional low rev “grunt”. The curious effect was that I kept looking for more gears on the GTS. (Hey, so this is already in top gear. Shouldn’t it then protest more at low revs?). Therefore one can almost ride it as an automatic at legal speeds. Which might become boring and in my mind proves the technological overkill of large capacity bikes. My ideal version would therefore be a much lighter version, say an NT with the GTS’ front end. Alas Yamaha never came around to building such interpretations.

Good video, informative and well edited 👏🏼 I have recently purchased a 23k mile 1991 CBR1000F as I always secretly wanted to own and try one when I got into bikes in the early 90’s Mines in the so called ‘Benetton’ multi coloured paint scheme.. pink 😄 I have 5 other bikes, and the big CBR fits in very well. 😊👍🏼

if cbr strugle with exceed 140 in avg road condition is limited to 98 hp or have some issue with engine etc for me gts cos it have less gear 👌🏻 + front suspension gts give less front rear wobble on front suspension 👌🏻however have more weight at front axle which is not amortization so 50-50 , beside it have fuel injection maintenance less so yea cbr is very close and in good condition full derestricted better max acceleration but i take gts 5 gear .

Seit 2004 fahre ich meine Yamaha GTS 1000A. Sie besitzt alle Eigenschaften, die ich benötige! Die Honda CBR 1000 war damals leider zu teuer und so musste ich mich einer Alternative umsehen. Die Yamaha wollte zu diesem Zeitpunkt keiner haben...? Sie hatte einen schlechten Ruf wegen falschen Reifengrößenwahl des Herstellers. Mein Glück: So kam ich ich zu meiner „EFI“. Ich liebe den Charakter der Yamaha, ihre Reisetauglichkeit, ihr Fahrverhalten, ihr Drehmoment, ihre Laufruhe, ihre Bissigkeit, ihren Punch unten heraus, die Optik...etc. Jetzt ist sie 30 Jahre alt und offiziell ein Oldtimer, das sieht man ihr überhaupt nicht an!!! The CBR1000F is my buddy`s bike (he has 1992, the last CBR1000F without the dual braking system). We switched bikes on our last tour this year (a while ago), and I must say compared to my RF900R, the riding position as well as the suspension were much more comfy on the CBR...but on the other hand, it handles more like the Titanic, while the RF just falls i to the corners, the CBR has to be forced into them, I was was kind of shocked I must admit. My mate stopped after the first real corner he rode on my RF, saying, man your bike just falls into the corner ;). The motor running culture of the CBR is more old school, but actually really nice. In my view it's more a bike to go straight, more a tourer than a sports bike, so I almost had to laugh to read SuperSport on the back of your 1989 CBR. It has plenty of power, pretty similar to the RF, but not quite the topspeed of it. I had the feeling that the 5th gear in the RF even had a bit more punch than the 6th in the CBR1000F. I once asked my mate what bike he'd like to have, and he answered his own CBR1000F in new (condition) :) Well, I still prefer the RF, the CBR is just too heavy and the wheelbase much too long, which really diminishes it's agilty, but it's al in all a nice & good bike with an almost timeless nice looking style - so I like it.

I have a 1990 CBR 1000 in the r/w/b colours, the Yamaha colour sceme is boring. Regardless of which is best to ride, I'll go for the most striking bike every time.

Another CBR1000F story, in theory the CBR900R Fireblade is the faster bike, but with 2 people on it, I raced a 2 people fireblade (which was a lot newer), but at 240+ km/h they had stability issues which I did not have at all, so they had to slow down. So in real life, the CBR1000F is faster, lol. Yes these speeds are illegal here, but back then there was not so much police to check the speed.

My '91 cbr1000f topped out at over 180 miles on the clock (usa model with miles clock). I had it only 2 weeks (but drove it a lot), when it was stolen and the thief could not handle it and crashed with high speed. the replacement '95 Yamaha GTS1000 was electronic limited at 240 km/h, which it easily touched also with 2 people on it. I might add that my European Yamaha was lightly tuned and made 100 rear wheel horsepower on the dynosheet I got with the bike (it was 1 year old and previously owned by the dealer himself, who was a racer before). The cbr brakes was the dcbs, which I liked, but the gts was more comfortable, and used less fuel. However the cbr was clearly much faster but a bit heavy in the corners. I had the GTS over 2 years and never any problems. I got stolen but the police recovered it and I got it back with minor damage. The GTS was better, but for an aggressive driver the CBR is better.

I've owned my CBR 1000 FL since 1992. And yes getting it want to bank in corners does take effort, that's because it wants to stand up on the exit. It is nowadays a tour sportster rougher than a super sports......but that's the distance bikes have come. Also the CBR comes with twin exhaust but as sounds very quiet.....or stealth as I say...if you want cover a large distance on a very very stable and comfortable platform and have fun in the bends too.....pick the CBR.....and don't modify the handle bars or the exhaust......and definitely not repaint the underside GREEN!!!!!!!

I remember the hype 18 months prior to the release of the GTS. It was going to be the new version FZR1000 EXUP. But Yamaha executives changed their minds. Why? We don't really know. Imagine an FZR EXUP with a special front end like this. Would it sell? Very very rare are the GTS's Are they desirable? Sadly no as the colour scheme lacked. Best regards. Take care.
