The brush strokes analogy has got to be the best explanation for Bitrate that I've ever heard. Thank you, this video was super helpful!

If you post on KZbin or any other social media, your footage will Automatically be compressed to a VBR depending on the bandwidth. KZbin usually focuses on the better “lit” areas of the video and lowers the quality of any background as well as anything that is not in motion. If you use social media, you better record video on a CBR to ensure everything in your video has the highest quality before getting “CUT” by the limitations of KZbin and other sites. If you work with clients and provide the full video to them for TV and film, then you can use VBR so your work flow is efficient for them since no ADDITIONAL data is being lost. CBR and VBR depends more on how you will present your video to your audience and WHERE!

My cousin was actually shooting an oceanside scene with pretty active waves/wave movement on his BMPCC and I’m thinking he was shooting at 24fps/180 and the waves became a huge mess of discolored pixels and essentially noise. I’ve been thinking it was probably VBR errors and the recording and shifting VBR couldn’t keep up. Don’t know for sure, but would love to. He’s so enamored with Black Magic cameras that honestly if I mention it at all he would flip out. Lol.

I guess this works the same for audio, right? I came here looking for an explanation on this topic and I for sure got it, crystal clear tbqh, and I'm pretty sure it's the same concept for audio although I'm not a 100% sure. Anyways guys, great video!

Thank you for the video! Definitely helps clear up the differences. One question tho, what would you recommend if uploading a gaming video to KZbin? For example, upload Call of Duty Modern Warfare, would it be better to use CBR or VBR, and if you'd know, at what mb/s? Thanks in advance!

No problem, we're happy it helped! Unfortunately, we can't be of assistance with the gaming question as we only apply it to surveillance but wish you luck figuring it out.

Well you see that depends with the movement of your gameplay if there is constant movement then use Vbr 2 pass and if there isn't that much movement use Cbr is should help you

@@BlueJimboDogs100 That's true! I rewatched the video and got a better understanding of vbr vs cbr. Did some own experimenting and VBR 2-pass works perfectly! Thank you for the reply BlueJimbo!

So i have a question about the interpretation on some security cameras. On mine in particular i have both VBR and CBR options but even if i set the camera to CBR with 6Mbps the bitrate works just the same as VBR. From some digging around this might actually be CBR as Constrained Bit Rate. Can you explain what that means and what tye difference is? In the meantime I'm just using VBR.
@SpecoTech Жыл бұрын
@miss_sapphire, what’s associated with “Constrained Bitrate” is called Constrained Variable Bitrate aka CVBR. The only difference between this and regular VBR is with CVBR you specify a maximum bit rate and maximum buffer window. You’re specifying a minimum average bitrate that can increase by a limited amount if necessary.

Hey, amazing video, but I have a question: if I'm editing a 1920x1080 60p video tutorial based on a linux terminal, recorded at 20 Mbps, is it better to export it using 15-20Mbps variable bitrate o 15Mbps constant bitrate? Because I tried exporting it in both the scenarios, and the variable bitrate video at the end was exported at only 3 Mbps which is extremely low by the standards recommended by KZbin. Any suggestions?
@zataraadventures2 жыл бұрын
did you figure it out bro? I am having similar issues. It won't export even close to the bit rate I tell it to!!!!
@0xbro2 жыл бұрын
@@zataraadventures Yes... and no ahah I think the "problem" is that the algorithm uses by design VBR encoding to optimize the export time and the final size of the file. Because of this, the video does not maintain a standard bitrate set by us but rather the software tries to compress it when the one set manually is excessive for the scene in progress. A computer terminal (to cite my case) doesn't need a high bitrate because it's almost like a static element, so during export it is reduced to the minimum necessary. For this reason there is no solution except to require to implement also the possibility to choose between CBR and VBR.

Hi, Let's say I have 4k video with 100 fps "europe" but using 23.976 sequence, and I want to use higher bit rate! of course the size of the file will be much larger, but what do I get out of it? better quality? worth it? or should I use around 100 not max which is 300? What about "Time Interpolation" "Frame Sampling"/Frame Blending/Optical Flow. which is best to use for such video quality I have? slow motion 75%! Thanks for all the advice

I have a bunch of videos exported from a DVR system, some good some bad (pixelated or jerky) and looking at the file properties to see which settings to use going forward. I think recorded all on variable bitrate with set resolution - however the frame numbers and FPS don't match any of the original setting options on the DVR recorder. Is this because I used variable bitrate or something to do with the export or ? thanks!
